Why does everyone add "U.E.S." to their ship name. Yes, I know it's United Earth Starship, but why do people put that name on their ships -- they're not UE Navy ships!

In a pilot file, I name all ships the same, no mater what class. For my 2 pilot files, the ships names are:
1. Enterprise 2. Journeyman (after the game "Journeyman Project 3: Legacy of time")

My favorite ship names are as follows (not strictly EVO shio bames, but...pfft): S.S. Psychic Slug, S.S. Milquetoast (try and figure out where that last one came from), S.S. 1337 haXor (it seemed funny at 3 AM), and S.S. Flying Sneaker.
For some truly bizarre ship names, read Ian M. Banks' Culture novels. The people all have stupid pseudo-alien names like 'Diziet Sma' and the drones have strange names like 'Mawhrin Skel' but the ships all have cool phrase-based names:

I can't remember most of my EVO ships a the moment but I do remember 1 ship:

Most often I use this system unless I get a sudden flash of inspiration:
Cargo ships beginning with the shuttle. Hauler X, where X is the number of the ship of that type Warships: Grinner X, again where X is the Ship #
except when I get my Rebel Cruiser, then it becomes the R.S.S. Grinner. No number.
Whenever I don't use these I tend to dredge up old historical words, typically cities or battles. Names like Aleksandra, Agamemnon, Minoa (okay cultures too), Enki (and gods I guess), Hammurabi, Thor, Thoth, Odin, Ra, Marathon etc.
