I got a mission to find an abducted ship designer. How do I find her? How will I know when I've found her? Is there any way to read the dhip description? Thanks for your help.
Start by going to freeport.

!!Spoilers Below!!
Make sure you have a good ship for this string, or a lot of escorts. Go to freeport and talk to the guy there. He'll tell you to go to loathe prime. When you get there, you will be sent back to the uninhabited system between LP and freeport. Here you will need to destroy a lot of ships (not easy) and then land on the planet. You will then be sent back to freeport. Talk to the captains of freeport, then head back to LP. You will be up against 4 turncoats, one of them specially modified (The Nadir) so you would be wise to have a needle jammer. Destroy the three normal turncoats, then board the Nadir to get Anna B. Proceed to New Taranto to collect your reward.
------------------ Relax, were not in trouble yet!
You should have tried running a search first (the link's in the top right of the main web board screen). This question has been asked many, many times. But the second reply does pretty much cover it. And about the Nadir--be careful, since once the ship is disabled, it will get destroyed really quickly if anything hits it. I did that once, and militia guys have done it for me before, and so have UE fighters (I don't know how they got there). But, of course, without a good ship you're unlikely to disable it in the first place...kind of a catch-22. Good luck anyway.

At the end of this mission string, you get to buy the UE cruiser. It costs 10.5 M creds. Start saving!

I don't think you understand. I did NOT blow up the Nadir like they say in all of the disscussion topics I've looked at. The ship was disabled properly, I did NOT shoot it, and when I hit B at the bottom of the screen it said "You can't board this ship." Is this a bug?
Probablly, but it's also possible you've already got Anna and just didn't realize it. After you get her, the ship becomes unboardable.

that might be what happened but if it wasn't it, you might want to abort the mission and restart it.

The defector weighs a ton too, but that might be because Voinians are just fat or something. Admiral McPherson weighs a ton too when you take him to Troub.

There was a dicussion about how much a ton is on the EV3 board. I think one of the things that was proposed as a "Ton" was 35 cubic meters. About the size of a presidential suite in a hotel or something.

How'd you come up with that number? And 35 cubic meters...that's a little more than a cube, three meters (about 10 feet--sorry, I'm pretty deeply American ;)) on a side. That's about half the size of my room. Presidential suite? Maybe for pygmies.
