Then by your defination, i'm still a newbie? that doesn't make any sense, i've been playing EV/O for a good 2+ years, and been at the boards for about the same time. so your newbie system just doesn't work... 'course neither does mine, i was just trying to get people to judge "newbieness" by time and not by personinality, why? as i said before, to often, poeple confuse flamers and spammers with newbies, because most people can't tell the differance between a newbie thats just being an ******* , and a REAL *******

I remember a time when being an oldbie was actually based more on respect and character than actual time spent here. Sure, one had to log a few months on the board, but it was people like EVula or The Old Professor who were always recognaized and respected for what they did in addition to, (not because of) the fact that they have been around so long.

WOW...Soviet?! Long time no see. You remember my old board? Glad to see ya again (someone I recognise and respect).
Well, for others' info, I consiter myself an oldie (a grandfather), although I am not known with all the newer guys yet....I think only regulars from the old board can even think of calling themselves oldies....and BTW, Soviet, you definately are an oldie.
I also agree with Bomb that respect is a main determination of an oldie, although the length of time around is also a factor. I would consiter myself a newbie on this board, but an oldie overall.

Out of curiosity, would the fact that i was semi-regular for about a month a year ago, before taking a long break and then returing make me a oldie, newbie, or somewhere in between?
I guess I have an interesting perspective on this... I have been playing EV since it came out, and I have been on the board since its creation. So most people dont consider me a newbie. On the other hand, I have not completed all the central objectives, so maybe I am. (I refuse to play for the Voinians, they suck)
I, too, think that the newbie/oldie line is defined by maturity. Everyone respeced The Old Prof, Skyhawk, HellHunter (Well, maybe not HH and people like them because they didnt get pissed off, didnt flame, and didnt post worthless drivel like this topic. You have to do more to be considered an oldie than just post crap for 6 months.
I think that a very small percentage of the board is an oldie in that sense. Most of the oldies, see what garbage is posted here and leave this place alone for the most part. But, then, Chamrin, Lobster, Weepul, and others do visit here a lot. I cant imagine what they see here.
Here is a simple way to tell if your an oldie or a newbie, in my opinion: If you care about the status you are probably a newbie. While this doesnt work sometimes, for the most part I have found it a good way to determine newbie-ness.

Newbie= People who havent got any experience with Mac and EVO/EV. They usually dont have any fighting tactics developed on their own, they often have this thing to cheat when they get stuck, they havent finished all the central objectives in EVO, they go around on the board and post meaningless reply's, take up space, ask stupid questions that are already asked 50 times before but they dont notice it (I found 3 topics where the members asked about the same question not too long ago) and they have under "100" posts on their record.
This is my definition of "Newbies" and I'm happy that I'm not a "newbie" anymore.

I don't have a 100 posts on my record, but I'm certianly not a newbie. Before a couple days ago, I had not been posting on the Ambrosia boards because I was posting on the "Alternative Boards" instead (Just because a lot of the oldies were there, and I enjoy their company).
As far as posting meaningless replies, well, sometimes people misjudge. What is meaningless to you might not be meaningless to me.
As for posting the same topic, I know I wouldn't go searching through hundreds of past topics to see if mine was posted before, I would just say "sorry if this was posted before, but heres what I have to say...". And if people have a problem with that, they don't have to reply.
And as far as you being a newbie goes, that isn't for you to decide. I suppose that depends on how everyone else treats you, if they respect you, you are not a newbie. But if they dislike you and consider you a newbie, you are one. You can create whatever newbie system you want to please you, but in the end, it is what everyone else thinks that matters.

Indeed, Lobster, I totally agree with you. It's what other people think of you that matters, however I have a problem, according to Eirik, I am still a newbie my years here don't matter, because I never completed all the EVO main objectives. Anyway, on the other hand I'd still consider Eirik a newbie, because he is sometimes rude and immature. Also the number of posts under ones name is pretty meaningless sometimes. Take OF he has over a thousand, but are any of his posts worth the bytes they take up?
Chamrin
Yea, the Old Prof finally lost it I think when in big blinking tags wrote: "Ban me" Over some petty argument with the board administration.

And he who has the name "Soviet mikee" on the ASW boards is, by my definition, the one and only... for all eternity... now and forever, the Emperor of the Universe.
So bow before me!

Well, I consider myself an 'oldie' from the time I stayed regularly. If we could make our 'time here' from now to our first visit... heck, I could say I have been here for 3... or is it 4 years....

Hehe... sometimes rude and immature? MOST of the time. And you are right...the number of posts under one's name is meaningless. Okay, maybe I only have around 50, but they are all posts that actually say something. Okay, maybe another guy has 2000, but is it all junk?
It is nice to have a few civilized people to talk to on these boards, like Chamrin, or Soviet mikee. Hint hint, nudge nudge Eirik! People aren't impressed by insults and jeers, but by helpful posts and constructive criticism.

See, that might be realistic. Anyone remember the dude who said he had been around EV 5-7 years? We never saw him again after the laughing and insults stopped...

What board does "Bomb" moderate, cause it says he's a moderator. Strange...

Frandall had a moderator status before he was made moderator of the EV3 board. Once you are deep enough into an ASW project, I guess they make you one.
When searching all forums, the last board is "Bomb's Plugin Guide" It looks pretty cool.
