Now first I apologize, I know this is probably not the right place to post this. I have been trying to make a plugin for some time now, but I just cannot figure this part out. I have all the details for the ships, and a small universe made up. But how do you get the pics for the planets and ships so I can use them?! I cannot see where I can put in the corresponding number for the PICTs that are in the data files. And when I open the data files using ResEdit, I cannot save the PICTs so I can load them for each ship and planet. I am using version 3.1.2 of EV Edit I believe. I am going to be out of town for a couple of days, so I will not be able to check back here, but I hope someone can help.
Thanks in advance Paul

I like to use EV Edit. So first you open your ship. Then you Look on the top and click on sprites. Then click on import and find your PICT. Set your scale and thats it for ships. For planets you got me there. But please Defiance e-mail me.

EV edit?
I decided that that's messy, and still a little too buggy for my tastes.
I use ResEdit.
I know it's the "hard way" - but like coding HTML by hand, it's probably the safest.
If you use ResEdit, it becomes fairly obvious which ID numbers go with which pictures. As MBurch said, you may need to subtract or add numbers to force the ID into the correct boundries. I take it you have a copy of the EVO Resources Bible?

Why does everyone have some quasi-amusing quote at the end of their signature file?
I am not afraid.
Yes I do have the EVO bible, and most of what is talks about seems to apply more to resedit than to ev edit. However resedit is nonetheless confusing.
Let me rephrase this. Where do I put the ID number in EV Edit when I make a planet or ship so I can get the appropriate planet or ship to show up. Example: I start by making a system, the ID number being 128. I name it Baskar, the government Baskar. No Dudes, no interference, no asteroids. I set it at always visible. Now I open the system with stellars. I make a planet and name it Basak, the ID number being 129. Now, I set the government Baskar, no dudes, no defenses, set the tech at 2: 15, 25, 30. I do not mess with anything, except I set it so you can land here. I see that there is a planet graphic button, but I cannot use this since the PICTs are not available anywhere. I see the there is a custom PIC, but I am not sure what this does. I see the custom sound, I do not want any sound. I see the bar descp, but I do not want to make a bar just yet. Now above that I see a box that says: Cool. I am not sure what this does either. I am not going to worry about ships, since my parenter and I are going to make some new ships.
I use EV Edit only for the ships and the planets.... ResEdit is **** and in my opinion hard to use only to import some pictures..

But I'd say ResEdit is the only "serious" way to do stuff.
And no, it's not confusing. Get the templates, and paste them into the ResEdit templates. Each section of the Bible corresponds to a Resource type used by the game. MBurch has done a great job of making it all simple and easy for an absolute beginner to pick up. I know I did.
The custom landing pics are in the EVO Titles (I think) and you can use ResEdit to find out what the iD number for the one you want is. Of course, if you have Bryce, you could do your own, and paste it into your plugin, giving it an ID number that's insanely high, to avoid conflicts. Then just point the CustPic field (I think it's called that) at the number you gave it.
The planet pics are defined by one of the similar fields. They point to a whole load of various different planet/mask combos in EVO Graphics. It's all really simple...
...just ues ResEdit!
Well I am using ResEdit and it is working much better than I could have hoped. Just thought you would like an update.
Congratulations!
