Once I did it the cowardly way; I cloaked and let the two rebel cruisers and their fighters do the work. The Alien cruiser was so preoccupied with finding me, it just sat there, doing nothing against the rain of missiles. I've defeated it the old fashioned way before and it was almost as satisfactory every time. This time however I felt really cheap.
Compared to the aliens, the Voinian Dreadnought is nothing Fame, streangth or otherwise. I would really like to see how a fight between them would turn out...

I did it the very expensive way first time round. I hopped over to a pirate system and hired six kestrels before I actually knew which system the aliens were in. I must have lost around 12 million credits just looking for the damn thing. And then I thought you had to destroy the fighters, but they ran away off the edge of the system. So I hopped back to Sol to see if I had completed the mission, but I kept the Kestrels in case I hadn't completed the mission and still needed them, so I lost another milion or so on that.
And at the end of it all I lost so much money I couldn't afford the Confed Cruiser even with the money I had from completing the misison.
Ugh.

Call this cheap or not - or maybe even interesting - if you are REALLY addicted to this game you CAN actually capture a Rebel (and Confederate? - I don't know, but assume so) cruiser from a Kestrel (I've done it - just set asside a decade or two). Fully loaded and upgraded, a cruiser on cruiser battle requires less in the way of minutely orchestrated from-the-back tractor beam assaults etc and is actually quite fun. The real challenge is of course aquiring your own Rebel cruiser without buying it. Good luck!

speaking of which, does anyone know if there are any plans of rereleasing the older versions of the game for the humble windows users? (yes, I, once a proud mac user am now forced to use the incompetant and horrible Win.XP :frown:).... thanks
