New webBoard for developers.

Tom35 has set up a webBoard for developers in programming and ev nova to get together and discuss problems that they may encounter and break through they may make.

I thought if any one could use this site the people of this web board could.

Take a look at it here: (url="http://"http://www.interact35.2ya.com/")http://www.interact35.2ya.com/(/url)

BTW: Sorry if I broke any rules by posting this here. If I did please mods delete/move this topic.

**I don't think you really broke any rule per se- however, it is rather odd to advertise for a board for developers to get together and discuss problems and break throughs they may have, on a board that does just that. Seems somewhat repetitive, doesn't it?

My post odd, but I think that this new board has a bit more than this one.

Do you...do you even read this board?

I mean, heck, I lurk here, and some of the stuff they talk about here is downright crazy.

This kind of thing is usually frowned upon. I'm not really sure if this should be locked or not. It doesn't exactly relate to plug-in developing directly, and it's more of an advertisement than anything else...

I think I'll lock it, for lack of any better ideas. If any of the other mods want to open it again, they're welcome to do so.

(edit by Mazca) You kidding? I'd have locked this in an eyeblink, and probably in less polite terms than you as well. :D(/edit)

Hmmm, the only nonsticky topics there are both locked.
Not a good sign. Why should we split the expertice of the dev community between two boards? Let us keep them all together here, so that the maximum exchange of infoemation can be reached.

Didn't Tom35 do something like this before, and it turned out he just had a free phpbb forum set up on his site. No one went, there was no reason. Just because it has stickies is not good enough reason to move, all of us are here to answer and ask all the appropriate questions. You would only ever get a few people to go across (people hate change, especially without reason) and the depth of knowledge would be miniscule, while reducing the depth of knowledge here.

Frankly I think this is an affront to the developers corner. There's no reason at all to have a separate, unnoficial forum for developers unless it's for a specific plug or project. Hah! Those are handled by nova.net anyhow, which is fairly well known already. There is 0 reason and 0 motivation to move.

No one will go... Mazca, Mrxak, you totally should have locked this topic. Bomb... well I suppose I want to hear their reasons too, but so far all they're saying is "it has stickies."

Whatever.

EDIT: Ah, I checked up. You want a reason for the move? Borb II is the moderator for the graphics forum. Borb, have fun by all means, but I think you guys are aiming at an already flooded market. There are SO many developer's forums around that it's ludicrous to think another will thrive without any backing. Still, 12 members! You're getting big crowds now... 🙂

Well, everyone should note that the board is not EV exclusive. If you've been to the site you've noticed that it covers many programming areas. Personally, I feel that there are better places to go if I need programming help. Basically what this new board is, is just another place for ev-nova.net users to hang out and talk about something other than nova. Yeah, the topic should be locked. The Nova section is only one part of the board and the two main developer boards that we have now I think is sufficient.

(url="http://"http://www.0three0.net/l-1551/")L 1551(/url) - The official site of RONIN and The Way and the ten thousand things

I don't think I'll be using this new board, but I also can't see why this topic should be locked -- the board is in part Nova-related, so the topic is also Nova-related. Posting it doesn't seem like a lockable offense -- there's no way that the board poses a threat that warrants censorship.

One could also argue that ev-nova.net is redundant. People have found good uses for it nonetheless. The same could eventually prove true for this site. Bahamut's FAQ might grow at times when other FAQ-makers are too busy to work on theirs, for instance.... Or the new board might turn into a place to swap ideas with people in modding communities from other games.... If these things don't seem likely, so what? We need people who are willing to try things that aren't likely to work -- it's the kind of stubborn spirit we need to see if we're ever going to get any more new and original TCs!

Or perhaps they were hoping it might spawn the next multi-player EV and provide idea swapping for those already working on such projects. 🙂

------------------

OK, there seems to be some confusion as to why I set this board up, so i'll explain. First of its not targeted at competant ev-nova plugin developers, it aimed at beginers to every programming language for the web and sofware. Secondly i set it up because i have seen very few boards that cover the absolute basics of things, or go over things in plain simple english. On EV-Nova.net, most, if not all the developers are mac based, and have been developing for a while, so most of what they talk about becomes alien, to the beginners, and hence puts them off, so i'm going to try to stick to simple, plain english in any tutorials. Thats another thing, i don't see many tutorials on disscussion boards, and the ones that i do see, i don't think are best in the world, they are more like something that is put together based on something you have just learned.

The whole purpose of my board is not to give ev-nova users a place to hang out and chat about any old thing, but for beginners of programming, along with some experts, or more advanced people, so that they can be helped in learning. On the board i have got a section of links to sites which may be of use to beginners.

Btw Kame, you said my last one failed, yes it did, but that was only a test one of mine, and served no real purpose, i was just learning the basics of phpBB and how to alter the code, and to make Modifications to it. Now that i'm a bit better at it, i have launched a new one which serves a purpose, and has no real ads.

I'm open to critisum, but at the end of the day there just opinions, and the board will still be there tommorow, even if i recieve a hundered critisums. I know that to a lot of the users here, it won't serve much purpose, but then again, most of the users here are competant developers and are reluctant to learn a new language, or area of development. I'm the same, I learnt REALbasic and i find it hard to learn new languages, and i don't really want to any more.

No matter how much people try and detter me away from this board, I'm not going to give up on this one

--Tom--

First off I'd like to thank Bomb for unlocking this thread.
Secondly due to a post we got on the DBB.

I'd like to be on the record, as saying that the DBB is in no way going to replace going to replace the ASW developer web board. I am sorry if some of you may have thought that, because of my posts. The DBB if any thing is here to work in tandem with the ASW developer board and the nova.net developer board. At the DBB we have many great things, like easier navigation, places to post stuff about things other then EV, tutorials about web making, and more. But the expertise of the people on this board alone is one of the reasons no one will ever ba able to replace it.

I would like to point out that at the time I posted this topic I was not a mod. I did not post this topic to make some shameless advertisement. I posted this topic because as I have already said, the DBB has some things that this board does not. I one of you can gain some thing from the DBB because I pointed you in the right direction. Then my time was not wasted. It is not about me telling you to come to my forum, because I the best mod ever. It is about us the EV community helping one another.

Great post! You have a lot of insight. I was going to point that out my self. The nova.net forums have the same thing on it as the ASW forums, right? I'll tell you why, for one some people like change. And secondly because the thing and ideas on the .net forums are different. Could the the .net forums survive with out the ASW forum? Yes. Could the the ASW forums survive with out the .net forums? Yes. But the EV community would be greatly hindered if ether one was lost. What is to say the DBB forums will not become like the .net forums?

Thank you all for you time and, thought provoking questions and coments.

Alright guys, thanks for explaining your reasoning better. I can't say I share your optimism as to the forum's potential, but I'm prepared to give you the benefit of the doubt. 🙂

However, no more topics specifically advertising this forum, please. By all means link to it in your sigs and mention it if a good reason comes up, but I'd appreciate it if you stopped short of blatant advertising.

I am, as ever cynical, but I can at least look in to see if it goes anywhere.

I could definately see a use for the forum there if you put up tutorials specifically about EVN plug making and so on, and I have to say that I see purpose in the other forums that are there. However, in my cynical way I fail to see it lasting into the future.

Good luck anyway, huh?
