The Missile with your name on it....

Can you make this 800x600? It's kinda grainy as a desktop picture. 😉

Cheers,
Guapo

I've been thinking about better ways to deploy this missile.

Another missile, with the same graphic, with the "Prox Triggered by Any Ship" flag, and with a large proximity radius. If this works the way I think it will, it would bypass the need to target the cloaking ship before firing the missile. One would shoot it in an area that a cloaked ship was suspected to be, and if this carrier projectile came close, it would submunition into the Cloak Hunting Missile. Uncle Twitchy, this would be great for you to deploy your weapon with. I haven't tested it yet, but I'll get back here when I do.

Weepul 884, yeah, I've noticed that the missiles tend to "bounce" around. This bouncing motion is what allows the projectile to find the cloaked ship. It might be made less noticable by making it submunition at a faster rate.

Mazca, cool picture!

Do... if it works, it would be perfect.

"Why don't you try it yourself, Uncle Twitchy?"

Actually, I wasn't talking about the jerky motion (which can indeed be corrected by having it submunition faster), but that it would track perfectly. Normal guided missiles in EVN have a max. turn rate, meaning that if they miss, they'll loop around, and will be unable to follow a very maneuverable ship. A missile made this way would effectively have infinite turn speed, always travelling toward the target no matter what.

Why not make it a space mine?

Perhaps this isn't the place for it, but I just noticed:
Nova got rid of the "decoy missile" tag!!! Boooo...I wanted to make a missile that was very fast, low damage, but could still get rid of much nastier missiles. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that this is the case.

Anyways, back to topic: It could be a SAE or SAD missile or something like that. Very easy to do, and usable.

Uncle Twitchy, It works!

You practically have to know where the cloaked ship is already, but if the missile gets close enough, it will start following the target around.

ElGuapo, a space mine? Yeah, it makes sense to leave a minefield to stop a cloaked ship instead of just taking a shot in the dark. I'll look at the possibility.

I might well make use of this... it would certainly make an interesting surprise for the player if I fitted some special ships with one of these weapons and they suddenly found their l33t cloaked ship getting pounded on.

What is l33t? I'm trying to expand my horizons and learn how to create plugs on my mac, but I'm so hopeless I'm afraid to begin for fear of doing something bad and dangerous. Is there a guide to creating plug-ins for the impaired? I'm hopeless.

And on the topic, will this missile be implemented into a plug-in? I would imagine it would be included in a mini-string or even part of a larger string plug and made available through a serious of missions. Interesting indeed it is.

Well, as I stated earlier, I'll make use of this in the Starfleet Adventures TC to simulate the way the Enterprise took down General Chang's cloaked-but-could-still-fire Bird of Prey in STVI.

Which reminds me -- Eugene, would you mind e-mailing your experiment to me so I can see precisely how you worked the submunitioning out? I've been having difficulty getting submunitions to work the way I want them to.

I'd like to see a copy of that, too. Could you post it somewhere?

Why do you think you're being ignored? I answered the question that was pertinent to the thread.

From the sounds of it, this missile will be implemented in several plugins in slightly different ways 😛

Uncle Twitchy, seant, do you want something you can plug in to Nova right away and watch the weapon in action, or just the wëap resources? I'll need to extricate this experiment from all of my other experiments anyway, but I'd like to know which is better for you.

ElGuapo, I was trying out something about those mines.

I gave a test pilot a weapon that simply shot forward for a short distance. When it expired, it submunitioned into five other projectiles. These travelled a short distance, scattering them from each other. Then they submunitioned into 'guided' projectiles that had a speed of zero, a ProxRadius of 150, and which could be 'triggered by any ship.' When a ship got close enough, these would in turn submunition into the cloak-hunters.

Stage (Wëap) 1: Fired by player. Short range, large SubTheta. (Launch)
2: Short range. (Scatter)
3: Zero speed, Prox triggered by any ship. (Mine)
4: Actual Missile.

They could just as easily be turned into a weapon in their own right. If someone wanted to, they could omit the final stage, and make the mines explosive. This technique could allow the player to quickly deploy a small mine-field. One could drop a few of these in front of oncoming fighters, or spam up a vast minefield in front of a capital ship. It eats up four wëap resources to do (Three if the mines themselves are simply explosive), but it could make mines in general much easier to use.

Can't speak for seant, but I'd just like the wëap (and oütf) resources to see how you set it up. Thanks, man!

Okay, Uncle Twitchy, seant, I just finished a simple plug-in that'll sit on top of Stock Nova. I'm e-mailing it to both of you... The file is only 8K in size. If you play it, you'll be able to buy a "Seeker Launcher" at any outfitter. If you then go to the Sol system, you'll find it full of pirate gövt wraiths. I've set the missile and the Wraith (adult) ships so that one hit should finish them. Just start shooting.

Missed the e-mail request stage.

Whatever.

Eugene, if it's not too much trouble, can you e-mail it to me as well?
If you want, I can then host it for you, free of charge (the 8k one).

Thanks.
