Where to get a Pirate Carrier

in rEVx

I'd like to try flying a Pirate Carrier in rEVx, but I've only ever seen them in the Hunt Pirate missions (from Independant spöb bars). Is there a place where I can find one that I can capture?

You could always try accepting another Hunt Pirate mission, then when you enter the system that has the carrier, abort the mission, and try capturing the carrier. Other than that, I dunno, sorry.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the only way. I don't think it appears anywhere else and you certainly can't buy one.

Don't bother with the Pirate Carrier. It's pathetic.

Indeed. It was supposed to come with a new weapon called the Porcupine Mine which would sub into a bunch of missiles on detonation but that didn't get finished (there's no sprite for the mine).

It's even worse than the Kestrel, which is much more of a ripoff than I remembered.

Take this advice: capture a Rebel Corvette. Anything else is a waste of time.

I disagree. I love the capacity of a Kestrel. Remove the Lightning bay, upgrade turn and speed, shielding and armor, load up on turrets and cannons, etc, etc.... I hardly ever have to use secondary weapons. Or a Forklift. And Corvettes only have a four jump fuel capacity, if I remember. That's not enough to get anywhere.

Since I like Corvettes better than Kestrels, I think I will. I don't see many of those around, though. Where is a good place to get one, preferably where I won't piss off Rebels doing it? (and if I must piss off rebels doing it, I'd preferably like to do it far away from Palshife so my legal status doesn't go down there so I can get the Astrodyne missions sooner...)

You won't piss off Rebels. It's a Rebel design, but only pirates use them.

Now make that vessel into an amazing killing machine. I recommend quad proton turrets.

Ah, that's an error. Find the rEV patch from the link in my sig to fix that (I think it might also tweak up the pirate carrier somewhat).

(edit) In fact, IIRC it was just a shan error. The Pirate Corvette was using the Rebel sprite while the real Rebel Corvette is never seen anywhere.

Okay, there are Rebel Argosys. Didn't I see a Corvette or two escorting said Argosys? Or are they "Traders"?

The red Argosy-looking things are Rebel Destroyers, based on the Argosy design. They have long since evolved past being Argosys, though.

grunk: Quad Proton Turrets? Not Heavy Proton Turrets? I currently have 1 Heavy Proton Turret, along with 2 Laser Turrets with PDU Upgrades... (I wanted at least one PD weapon...).

I know the difference between an Argosy and Rebel Destroyer. Someone mentioned Rebel Corvettes, and I just didn't remember seeing a Rebel Corvette, though, I have seen Argosies with "Rebel" or "Confed" instead of saying "Trader". shrugs

Heavy Proton Turrets fire much too slowly, especially if you only have one. Two quads, though, will give you the firing rate of eight cannons.

Proton turrets ftw. I always got rid of a kestrel's lightnings, waste of space and way too expensive when they blow up, which is pretty often.

Where could one get these aforementioned @$$-kickers? I never saw them in the original EV.

Note the topic title: rEVx (rEVisited with rEV xData). They aren't in the original EV.

Really? Interesting stuff. Makes me want to play EV again.
