I just restarted EVO after a year's shore leave (!) with a new pilot. Are there any good UE space trade routes? I'm getting kinda bored with shuttling cargo from planet to planet and almost getting killed in Chorca. I need the money to get a decent ship.

I dont think there is any way round the painful start, my friend. Not unless you use some cheat like ACE, or a plug. Ive started EVO many times now and I find that its best just to swallow your pride (as a fighter) and get some serious trading done. Many people will say that its best just to upgrade from your shuttle to something more nifty and with a bit of muscle once you have built up your money, but they will almost always tell you to stay away from frieghters in terms of getting that money. My advice is the opposite.
My tactic is this: Make enough money with your shuttle to hire and fill a freighter with Medical supplies at Atlantic Station and make sure you have enough cash to cover the freighters fees for the return trip to New Calcutta in the nighbouring system and back. Keep doing this till you have enough money to repeat the process with another freighter. Carry on until you have six Freighter escorts and then save up enough cash to buy yourself a freighter and be able to fill them all with medical supplies. You can buy a frieghter at new Tokyo, so it wont involve paying any fees to your escorts for a hyper jump. Then keep going back and forth from Atlantic station to New Calcutta....for AGES!!! I find this is the quickest way to save up enough money for a fully kitted out Lazira (10 or 11 mill credits). However, this plan will work much faster if you are going for a lighter (and cheaper) ship, such as the Arada. With the Lazira, you can start raiding pirates and that is the fastest way to make money!! There is a system to the south (I think it lies between Duios and Unobot) where you can even indulge in a spot of piracy yourself and not attract any loss in status. I have been able to capture many Miranu Heavy Freighters as escorts (so no fees!!) and that is a very good way to make lots of money, if you decide to go back to trading. But its more fun to just take out the pirates! Cheers

Try this route: Centauri to Atlantic Station for food Atlantic Station back to Centauri for ferilizer
Safe route, use a freighter or a Miranu Heavy Freighter if you've gotten the money.

Time is visible in all places.
Clock towers, wristwatches, church bells divide years into months, months into days, days into hours, hours into seconds, each increment of time marching after the other in perfect succession. And beyond any particular clock, a vast scaffold of time, stretching across the universe, lays down the law of time equally for all.
In this world, a second is a second is a second.
Time moves forward with unwavering regularity.
Time is an infinite ruler.
Time is absolute.
Bleh, I can't make a living as a trader. I always end up losing the credits I make. Well, thanks anyway.
Why don't you do the Paaren Station trick?

When I capture ships and use them as an escort, I don't get an increase in my fleet's cargo capacity. Only the hired help adds cargo space. Your comment implies otherwise, Rob. Surprised me. Does everyone else get to transport cargo on captured ships? I never have.

It depends what you're boarding, traders or otherwise. I tend to board pirates (after having drained their coffers, natch), they don't augment cargo space. Go for the traders if you want but they won't give you much defence.

Yeah, if you board traders, then you get to use their space. I just do it now and again, if my finances need a little boost. But as Alan said, they are crap as defence. Far better to get yourself some cresent warship escorts and just clean out the renegades!! Happy Hunting!
Better yet, capture six Igazras and have some fun. I don't do this normally though because I find escorts to be a bore. (For additional fun however, capture three Igazras and three Voinian Cruisers. Excellent for anywhere!)
My opening money getting scheme is to trade enough to get a scoutship (quick), and then head for Miranu space. With a cargo pod, and the Miranu trading organization missions opened up, I start doing 50K to 100K credit ferrying missions. The money for an Arada or Lazira comes pretty quickly then. And it's more interesting than running trade routes - you get to see all parts of the galaxy.

I sided with the Zidagar in the strand war and every time i saw a Igazdra it was simple(and legal to wait for it to kill its opponents and then disable it while it is at low health. Sometimes if it is going to lose the fight i can stay on top of them and board them before they are destroyed. They usually carry around 500k so it's easy money. However the monty python maneuver won't work because their turrets will reach at least as far as yours.
Lŕ, tu peux les descendre assez vite You can perfectly MP some Igazras, even in EVO 1.0.2, if you adapt a little the mehod. The trick is to always go slightly quicker, then slightly slower than they are. They have more range than you usually do, specially when you begin, but they don't start firing as soon as you're within range. So, you've got to stay between the beginning of your range and the distnce they start to fire. Then, you can get them down quite quick

Well I am not the best player in the world, but I would get a scout ship and open up as much of the map as you can, you might get some good missons. Or you could attack traders and take there money.

Oi. I finally got a Scoutship, and I'm shuttling loads of ccargo for the Miranu, and plundering the occasional trader
I personally found the best ships to capture for cargo trading were Voinian freighters.. hell of a lot of armor and a serious chunk of cargo space.. and as far as cargo goes.. Tourists from Earth to New Rome.. descent profit short jump route.. this is what I use in order to make money..

dude...you guys actually trade?? bwa ha ha ha ha. i just steal all my money. igazras and azdara warships are always loaded to the brim. i even start pirating as soon as i get a scoutship.

pirating when you got a SCOUTSHIP? i did it when i was a shuttle!
------------------ Life is evil, live with it
Yeap, you can pirate in every kind of ship. But it's true with trade you make big bucks really quick, lots quicker than doinf piratery, with for instance the Crassworms road (I don't know what this is, except some kind of worms, so I can't translate).
a cool route is dogovor(crassworms) take them to omm buy meds take them to huron, buy something there, i forgot what, and take that to dogovor
On Omm you can buy medical supplies( i think, otherwise it's equipment). You can sell them two systems away to the left on your way back to dogovar for a bit of extra cash. there you can buy equipment(if its not that, its medical) and sell that at dogovar. ---------------- "It is dead.
