Swarmed by fighters in 1.0.2

I recently downloaded 1.0.2 and I find it a great improvement in many ways. One problem though - I'm struggling with some of the missions. I'm flying a Crescent Warship with a fairly good set of hardware (the best that money can buy, but no elaborate mission outfits).

Trouble is - fighters come after me in dense packs, and I just can't kill them all. Even kraits can batter down my shields, when they come after me in groups of 18 or more. (I'm trying to destroy renegade shipping in Troub, Pariah and Mavs.) Of course, the limitation that turrets count against your gun limit has reduced the firepower of capital ships quite a lot.

My escorts aren't sufficiently well disciplined to stay with me and take out the enemy fighters, and I can't spare the time to keep retargeting them anyway. I've gone in with half a dozen captured Aradas, launched my three Crescent Fighers, and I still get pasted.

I'm putting my hopes on getting the Plasma Siphon and using that to keep the fighters at bay... just hope I don't run into a situation which I find impossible while I work through those missions... even a shipload of Azdgari fighters is a nightmare at the moment. Am I doing something wrong?

Greetings.

This is how i deal with lots and lots of those darn ships. Full speed forward ASAP, string them out. Then, don´t target the one clostest, target the second or third in the line, that way you will hit them all much faster.
Most important is the forward speed! They will chatch up and surrond you, then there fire will slow you down and then you are dead.
go forward.

Hitting "R" targets the enemy nearest to you. Just hold down the spacebar and keep on hitting the R button. You'll do fine.

I'd say you max out on guns, turrets, and low-power homing weapons-but SADS do fine too. Then go after the little farts.

Get my shockwave weapon. Does little damage, but knocks 'em back really far...

I've found that Dipsy rockets are very effective against fighters. Just get a couple of launchers, load up on rockets, and paste the mother f*ckers.

Confucius say: "Man who stand on toilet, is high on pot."

That will happen alot in 1.0.2...heres a tip: the "R" key targets the nearest hostile target, so just hold down spacebar and keep tapping r. Another tip is to buy a repulsor beam to fend off those marauding fighters. And another thing, those aradas will always cause you trouble...no matter what ship your in. I've found that the most effective way for me is to wait for them to swarm me, and then let a space mine out. This will kill most of the swarm and then the rest is easy pickings.

Even better than space mines are defense pods. They are easier to get, can be customised (i.e. the number of launchers you get determines how much damage you do per hit, and how many you need to carry), and they work just fine for this. It only takes one hit of about three or more to take out most fighters, and if there are several on top of you at once, then it takes them all out! I've dispenced with up to four or five at a time!

Im wondering about this AI too. Ive just started out with 1.0.2 and at first I found the ships quite easy to defeat. Ive now attained exellent combat status and the fighters are becoming just a little too overpowering. Its made me alter my fighting style and Im pleased with the new tactics Ive had to adopt, but I do worry that if the fighters get very much faster, then I just wont be able to deal with them. Its no fun if its just too hard ALL the time.

Is it Matts birthday again? Ive noticed that little message popping up again today.

Ive noticed a bug with Zidagar beams appearing at the side of the radar panel, but I cant remember the bug report email addy...does anyone know?

Also, I have a question about capturing odds. Are your odds of capturing ships affected by plundering other items? When you board a ship, are the odds you see a fixed thing? Im just wondering that if I hold back on stealing the credits et.c, I might have a better chance of capturing the ship. Just as a note, I once captured a Voinian cruiser in a little Arada, on a 1% chance. That was a good moment!!
Happiness to you all

Yeah, every time you steal something you increase your chances of the thing blowing up but I don't think it affects your capturing percentage.

It's all a conspiracy. Ambrosia created an addicting game so they knew you would want 1.0.2. They jacked up the AI to infect our computers so they turn against us!! Then they will infect other computers and they will infect others. Then they will start spawning into lethal killing machines. They will capture the human race and trap them all in bubbles. They would then "grow" the humans like crops for energy and distract everyone with something called the Matrix. STOP AMBROSIA!! I've already said to mu... (muffled) no, NO, NOOO!!!(gunshot).

(Matt B.) Everything is just fine. Don't listen to the raving lunatic. He is getting help right now :).

Wimp...um...well...Oh Yeah!...( what really bugs me is knowing I'll probably come up with a much sharper retort later today darn

I've been trying everything I can think of to defeat these swarms of fighters and nothing, absolutely nothing, works. I'm in a Crescent with every possible upgrade and I am not a newbie, I know how to play this game, and I frankly think this upgrade has ruined the game. I guess I'll try the space bomb idea, but that seems like really clumsy game play to me. I'm about to put this game away forever unless something is changed in the way the fleet battles behave, because I see no way out. (PS- you can't get the Igazdra plasma siphon until you have defeated several of these big fleets first, so forget that.)

NOOOOOooo.... Don't use the space bombs! Listen to me!!!!

Worry not about fighters, just take these easy-to-follow steps:

1.Get 4-6 Miranu Defense Systems.

2.Get as many Defense pods as you can hold.

3.When in battles with lots of fighters, fly away from the heavy action (Capital ships) so that the fighters follow you.

4.Fire on them as they come up on you, but don't use the pods yet!

5.When a group of 3 or more is right on top of your ship (wait until they are swarming over you, basically), release the pods.

6.Repeat steps 4&5 (it takes a while for the pods to reload).

I have gotten rid of fighters of any kind 5 or more at a time using this method. The pods are better than the space mines for this because they take up less room per individual unit, cost less, are easier to get (space mines are only sold on human renegade planets in the south tip), are customisable (you can buy as many or as few MDSs as you like), and finally, they do zero damage to your own sheilds.

It's Defense pods all the way, baby!!! 😉

La meilleure arme contre les petits crétins, c'est le siphon ŕ plasma des Igadzras Ça les tient ŕ distance, et aprčs, il n'y a plus qu'ŕ les dégommer, c'est un plaisir.

The best weapon against those pesky fighters is the Igadzras' plasma siphon. It keeps them off, and then you just have to enjoy killing every single one of them

------------------
Stupid, stupid voinian creatures.

Get the plasma siphon. the first mission with this device is to take out an azdgari warship (i think in the calb system or nearby). your best bet is to take out the azdaras when you're far away from the ship and then take out the ship itself after taking some time to regnerate your shields if necessary.

------------------

For fear of reviving this old rivalry... oh well, I think that although the crescent warship is faster, the UE cruiser is better suited to this. It has more protection and, if you fit it with phase turrets, more firepower as well. Also make sure you have the extra armor from paaren station.

Poulenc

Thanks for all the advice. I figured out a way- in a fully upgraded Crescent, you just add a repulsor beam, step on the gas to string them out, and hold the beam down while you blast away. It knocks them back and keeps you from dying- just barely, but you survive.

The advice to retreat full speed is good. It strings the fighters out as they said. The additional tactic that makes this work well is judicious use of the afterburner. Target the nearest and fire as he comes into range. As he nears HIS firing range, begin using the afterburner to keep him just out of his firing range. Repeat as necessary, only using the afterburner at the critical point where the fighter is just about to start firing. This doesn't use as much fuel as you'd think - the trick is to just tap...tap...tap... the afterburner -- just enough of a pulse to keep you ahead. You will have inflicted a lot of damage before then, so the afterburner is only needed for a short time. With fuel scoops you can use this technique fairly successfully. Fighters will often come in waves and you can "rest" (recharge fuel and sheilds) in between while your escorts/fighters deal with the bigger slower ships. Remember, Fuel = Shields. If your shields are low and you have fuel, you can run and hide while you recover. Likewise, if your shields are strong but low on fuel, you can deal with threats head-on for a while while your scoops gather fuel.

Disclaimer - I've never used a CW, but works great in a Lazira. Works ok in a UE Cruiser, but 5 UE fighter escort helps a lot too 8-)
