Best Confed /Rebel thread ever

Once upon a time, I made a post about the Confeds and Rebels.
It was a Confed / Rebel discussion.

Then I made the post that was the best post ever made about Confeds and Rebels.

It's this one if you want to read: http://www.ambrosias...post&p=1496788.
It's the best because it's the only one that is balanced - one that says neither side is completely good. Consul Bob wrote that he partially relented - the only time I've ever changed the opinion of someone!

I thought I would make the best Confed / Rebel thread ever by writing more why what the Confeds did is evil.

Confed courier operations misn is a mission where the Confeds work with the Pirates.

Here is what the text says:

"The data retrieved by the spy you escorted shows several peculiar readings. We have distributed this information along secured Confed lines, but we still can't make heads or tails of the readings. We require your assistance in transporting this data and to the <DSY> system, where one of our pirate contacts will aid you. We have also given you a small load of tritanium ore to be used as payment for our pirate contact. You must return the pirates analysis to <RST> in the <RSY> system by <DL>."

Here's the drop cargo for that mission:

"A rotund, unkempt individual approaches you as you arrive in the landing area. Arrm... I see yer havin' some data I should be lookin' at. Thank ye... I'll send ye me findins before yer leavin' this port."

The Confeds working with the Pirates is the same as a government openly working with criminals. As far as I know, it has never happened in actual life itself. Never in the history of the world.

Distribute Biological Weapons is the mission where you deliver biological weapons.

Here is the mission description:

"Just yesterday, we received reports of a Rebel attack on <DST>. They're requesting huge amounts of supplies; we need you to deliver these munitions to <DST> within a month. Watch out for Rebel resistance, especially near the <DSY> system. Oh, and don't forget to return to this station if you'd like to run more of these missions for us in the future."

Distribute Biological Weapons quick brief says: "Deliver biological weapons to <DST> in the <DSY> system by <DL>."

Deliver refined toxins:

"A corporate executive meets you over lunch. Some of the industrial byproducts that are refined at our plant are used to produce biological weaponry. We would like to enlist your help in transporting these goods to <DST> in the <DSY> system for the final stages of manufacturing."

"Once again, the chemicals are offloaded from your ship. Just in time, says the man in charge of the team of workmen. The Confederation has just been hit hard by Rebel forces, and many weapons manufacturers around the galaxy are shipping their weapons. If we need your services we will call on you again."

So they are using industrial waste to make bioweapons!

Using biological weapons against someone has never happened in actual life itself, with the exception of Saddam Hussein gassing Kurds. Therefore you must agree that using biological weapons is very bad indeed.

My earlier post has a interesting quote (I wrote this): "While I agree that the Rebels shouldnt attack, the Confeds should definitely not use biological weapons to quell it."

Stop Confed Defector

In this mission, you kill persons because it is suspected that they changed sides to the Rebellion.

Here is the text you get when you accept the mission: "Here's the situation, captain," says the Confed officer quietly.

"The frigate <SN>, which was on patrol near the <RSY> system, was supposed to put into port yesterday, but is overdue. Confed intelligence gives us reason to believe that the officers and at least some of the ship's crew are intending to defect to the Rebellion. Your mission is to locate and destroy the <SN>... leave no survivors, so that we may send a clear message to others considering this traitorous course of action!"

That is murder doable by anyone (because a civilian can do it) with government approval (because they ask you to kill). I'd like to add arbitrary murder, because they want to murder people just because they are suspected of changing sides. The part that says reason to believe is the part where the persons are suspected. As far as I know, this has never happened in actual life itself. I have never seen, heard or read about anyone that was killed just because he changed sides. Has anyone heard of any person, ever, that was killed exactly in the way the mission describes in the text you get when you accept the mission?

Oh, and let's forget about anything that happens in life itself. Like having a trial first. Or the fact that death penalty isn't even in use everywhere.

The Rebels do things I don't like too. Like forcing you to change sides and killing senators. They also do weapons trade (I think the Gun Running mission is weapons trade). But I think the Rebel crimes are less severe.

I hope this really was the best thread ever on Confeds and Rebels. I wish I really did bring more reasons why what the Confeds did is evil. And I hope I get replies. I tried to make this post intelligent, hopefully the length of this thread doesn't mean I get zero replies.

Good work.

The Confeds working with the Pirates is the same as a government openly working with criminals. As far as I know, it has never happened in actual life itself. Never in the history of the world.

The way I read it, it's not the same as a government openly working with criminals. It's the same as a government clandestinely working with criminals. And that, I'm sure, has happened loads of times (I don't have time to look up specific examples).

It is significant that the Confeds are communicating through a civilian rather than sending an official envoy. If they sent an official, then that could be considered working openly. The way it's presented in the game, though, it appears (to me) that the Confeds are trying to avoid any clear association with the pirates. If (hypothetically) the player were discovered transporting sensitive data from the Confeds to the Pirates, the Confeds could easily disavow any knowledge of what was going on, and even accuse the civilian of being a traitor.

Another possible reading is that the "pirate contact" in this mission is actually a Confed spy/operative working within the pirate organization to gain information... not necessarily collaborating with the pirates.

That's all I have time for now...
