The other day I was playing EV, and I started a new game on restricted play.
So, I jumped out of Levo, and I ran into a Corvette pirate. Game over in under a minute. :redface:
Anyone else have similar hyjinks in this game? Really Bad Luck?

I normally play on strict play after beating the game my first time, but I generally go out of my way to avoid conflict. So I start a new game, land on Levo and start to leave but a couple Confederate Destroyers and a Rebel Cruiser open fire on each other and I'm between I got the hurt. On the other hand it is much better than playing for an hour then losing your game... Fare ye well, The Humorless One

Beat the Alien Cruiser missions for the first time (without Tractor Beam, cheats, etc. mind you. This was pure 1337-5k|11z), died before I could land.

on my first or second pilot I was in a stock courier and I was stuck on an uninhabited planet in a pirate system, with neither the fuel to get away or the cash to buy some, and considering I was a complete newb at fighting, and about 6 corvettes and kestrels were blasting my hull to peices whenever I took off, I wasn't in that great a situation. But after ages I finally managed to disable a lighning off a kestrel. I thought I was saved, until I saw that it had no credits and 40 units of fuel! So I had to hang about for another hour until I managed to kill a passing argosy and nick its cash (not very easy when you have loads of pirate ships flying off missiles at you)

I've never had any interesting deaths, so I can't really say much other than laugh.

Heh. It can be really annoying when you run into a pirate Corvette when you're a beginner. Tough luck, I guess.

It has been a while since I played EV. But I remember often geting caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.
It was more like, "Look look that confed cruiser in disabled, GO GO GO. AAAHH, it's exploding GO BACK GO BACK GO BACK..." A pathetic death if I say so myself.

I remember one early pilot where I accepted a packet mission. You know, the one where you accept and THEN the gov't rep chuckles and says, watch out for pirates.
Yikes! I was in a Shuttle and trying to get from (something like) Kathoon to Pelagon -- which meant I needed to refuel along the way. I'd finally make it out of one system just ahead of the pirates, but when I tried to land on the system where i needed fuel, the pirates would nail me. Of course, I was so stubborn, I'd keep trying.
I think it took me over a dozen attempts to complete that mission. Geez!

Heh, stuff like that has happened to me before. But finally I managed to land quick enough that I was not destroyed.
I had a pilot who had been getting on okay in his upgraded Scoutship for a while, but then decided to switch to an Argosy instead. I decked the argosy out very nicely with full laser weaponry and torpedoes. And then I took off and got smashed up by a pair of Corvette pirates. So I reloaded my game and was immediately smashed up by another pair of Corvette pirates. Rather baffled, I reloaded again and .... no corvette pirates. So I jumped to the next system and was immediately set upon by... a pair of corvette pirates.
That was just spooky. Corvettes are rare enough as it is, but getting a pair of them three times in a row is just weird.

I think stuff like that happens after buying various parts/ships. Every time I buy a speed upgrade, I am always attacked by a group pirate Defenders for about a month (in game time).
I got something similar to Jimbob's experience: When making EV Destroyer 1.0, I was almost up to 40 AIs, so I thought I could make a Pirate. "Purplebeard the Pirate" was born. A few months later, while testing EV Destroyer 2.0, I started a new pilot. I didn't land on Levo, but went strait to Rigil. Purplebeard was waiting for me, and I made him tough! That ended that strict play pilot.
When I started my first pilot for Empire of Crime I was kiled before even bing able to read the "land at Levo" instruction message. All I heard was the siren, and then BAM. I think thats fastest death yet.
