"Receiving a transmission, sir" the comm officer on the Endeavor spoke. "Perhaps Carnotaur has responded already?" Kyle inquired. "No sir, it appears to originate from the independent world of Capella." "What could they want?"
Ah, this may be useful. Capella is a vital gateway to the Eastern worlds. We could benefit from free access to its resupply bases. Send a transmission to Capella.
<You are free to become a contingent member of the Northern Regency. You will enjoy further trade benefits on the condition of our free access to your ports. A warning. As you are not a full member of the Regency, we do not have complete monitoring of your actions. Act wisely.>
Kyle then broadcasted to his fleet. <Engage hyperspace engines and warp to Kathoon>
Fleet moves to Kathoon. <We will be stationed here for the time being>
Fleet stationed in Kathoon: 14 Catamaran Warships 8 "Bear" Carriers 36 Rapier Missileboats 2 Military Scoutships (1 Endeavor)
------------------ Go Red Sox, Go Bruins, Go Celtics, Go Patriots.
"Welcome to battlefield Sirgil, Nomus!" said the adrenaline filled Commander Rečoru. "Nomus, your first assignment is to recapture the Bear carrier Hephaestus," said the Captian of the Dione. "Copy that, Dione. Sorry we're late, we had to fight off an independant renegade squadron from a supply convoy bound for our new colony on Scorpio." replied the captain of the boarding catamaran Nomus. "Darius, Nike, and Hatshepsut, escort and defend the Normus," said the commander to the 3 Bears. "All remaining ships, attack the Thoth!" But the Thoth was nowhere to be found. It had landed, and was being saved for future fights. As the lower hulls of the Nomus where lowered over the Hephaestus, a boarding party of 20 men was assembled. Armed with laser "chamberguns", crowbars, and close-range explosives, they manned the Nomus's hull boring laser. As soon as a doorway was opened, the boarding crew could move in. "Tethys and Dione, return to fleet! We almost got em! " "Ay, commander!" "Start firing on enemy Rapiers." "Greetins from the Hephaestus!" said the new captain of the Hephaestus, the leader of the boarding party. "Great job, boarding fleet." "Where are all the rebs?" asked the captain of the Hatshepsut. "They appear to have disappeared!" said the Commander. "We won boys!" "YEE HAW!" Outside, the Halibuts and Rapiers of the victorious Reunifier fleet where doing astrobatics, such as barrel rolls. "Return to Tryvin, fleet! As of now, the Hephaestus is once again part of the Pelagon Union Navy!"
"Opal, we are requesting a company of Halibuts and possibly Rapiers to come to Scorpio to be our defense fleet" said the radiogram that Presider Planas held in his hand. "Reply to them that they will recieve 6 Halibuts and 4 Rapiers in about 3 days." he commanded the senior radio officer of the Union. "And tell Tarfet to send those ships on their way." "Yes sir, and we are expecting a transmission from Rečoru sometime today about the battle."
On Scorpio, about 3 story-days later, the new defense fleet arrived and where given hangars, which used to be cargo holds of the Bulk Freighter. A refuelling station had already been set up, but the only fuel they had was what was on the Freighter. "Send a request for a supertanker load of fuel to Regulus." said the newly elected Presidential Minister of Scorpio to the radio operater on board the grounded Bulk Freighter. "Ay, Sir. But why do we need a refuelling base here?" asked the radio op. "I'm not sure I have the liberty to say that, Galfstaff. It's under level 3 clearance, meaning only planetary ministers, representatives and Planas himself can know about it." This, of course, only raised the young radio operater's curiosity.

At 1800, Commander Lelethos arrived in Zsaothelel's office. Imagining a drab, business-like type of room, the young commander was surprised to find an enormous hall, filled with valuable ceramics and tapestries. Oriflammes draped from the ceiling bore Zsaothelel's family crest in a brilliant design of gold upon a background of black. That made Lelethos gaze in awe.
Zsaothelel was of the same lineage as the Strategist Msaorlelk himself, but, more importantly, of the Imperator!
"Enough gawking, Commander. And, to answer the obvious question no doubt forming in your mind, I was not chosen for this post because of my blood. I earned every title I possess, just as you have."
"I meant no offense, sir."
"Of course not," agreed Zsaothelel. "But such thoughts are detrimental to progress, and resentment has no place in our navy. Please, take a seat." The Fleet Commander indicated a chair carved from a large emerald, probably one from the Xellec mines, and an average sized one at that, from the standards of that world.
"Commander, I called you in here because I want you to understand the importance of what we are about to attempt."
"Acknowledged sir, but I think I already have a good comprehension of the reasoning behind the Second Expansion."
"Very well. Then I'll offer you a deal. Single combat, graviton staffs. If I win, you'll bear with the history lesson and the plans for the future. If you win, you tell me how much you know, and I'll expand on it for you."
"Not much of a bargain, sir."
"It never is. Deal with it."
"Understood. Get your weapons out."

Gilmore's office was in the McHaley building in New York, the capital of the Solarion Commonwealth. Spacers, of course, thought of Earth itself as the capital. Thinking of humanity in terms of cities on continents was archaic. Mankind's future was in space, as nearly everyone knew. Admiral Kraler knew this, though he often wondered if Gilmore did. Gilmore went to funerals and gave speeches; Kraler basically ran the Commonwealth from an inter-planetary point of view. A modernistic point of view. Kraler was in charge of the Commonwealth's space-borne Navy. There was a Navy in the old-fashioned sense, as well as an army and an air force. But dammit, Kraler thought, they meant nothing nowadays. The only fighting force of old that mattered outside of humanity's homeworld was the Marines. Formerly America's marines, then the World Administration's marines. Basically, Sol's marines today. They and the Navy had the only significant space presence.
Kraler had respect for the marines, but not much. Only he and his "boys" mattered. Kraler hated Earth, and most other planets beside. His official office was also in the McHaley building. You'd never find him there. He was always in his Frigate, the Lone Wolf, pride of Sol. There, he was in communication with Gilmore.
Gilmore was speaking in that dreadful monotone of his. "Admiral, as you know, we've been looking into forming colonies in the Barnard system and, possibly, the Sirius system. We've already made an official claim over the Barnard system."
Kraler tried hard not to grimace. The damned fool. Kraler mentally prepared himself to speak in his politely-explaining-the-blatantly-obvious-to-cretins voice.
"Sir, that means nothing. There is no law that legally obliges other governments to recognize our claims," Kraler said with a light German accent.
Gilmore looked puzzled, a look that was painfully familiar to Kraler. But Gilmore shook it off. "Well, all the more reason to get our expedition over there sooner. You're in charge of it. I'll be sending over the official orders soon..."

(ooc: sorry about this delay, I kinda have gotten sidetracked)
"Sir, the defense fleet has arrived!" said the Radio Officer of the new planet Scorpio. "Excellent! Give them clearance to land." said the elected ruler of Scorpio. "And if I'm not mistaken, I think that is that supertanker we ordered!" "And none to late, we just finished the tank yesterday!"
About an hour later, the Supertanker escorted by the future defense fleet of Scorpio where grounded in the large plain next to the colony. "Welcome to Scorpio! We will get a fuel hose over here soon, and for the defense fleet, your ships will be put in the hangars for quick access." said the Planetary Minister. Just as the small reception party was about to begin, a screeching sound followed by a report of 5 explosions around the city. "What the hell was that?" "TAKE COVER!" Screams and general chaos followed. The cloudy day finally dropped it's ripe fruit of rain, and the huge punch bowl started overflowing, making everything a general mess. With later examination, it was found a Halibut had entered the atmostphere of Scorpio, fired it's payload of Mark 1 missiles, and couldn't get out of the gravitational pull and was devoured by the thick, dense layers of radon in the middle atmosphere. Although the missiles did no damage to the city, the attacks still enraged the Senate on Opal. The Senate, who needed to know who was responsable for the attacks. With the adjourning of the Senate that next week, the Kestrel Commission was formed as both a protective organization and a investigative firm for figuring cracking cases involving government.
"Send word to Jadzia Station that the investigation has begun," said the Presider. "Yes sir, right away." said the Senior Radio officer.
Jadz. Station:
"Sir, incoming message." said the Radio officer of Jadzia Station "Put in through on the bridge speaker." replied the Station Commander
"Jadzia Station, this is Opal. We are sending you a ra..." said the voice on Opal.
"What the..." "The message just dropped of into nothing!" "Replay the message" "What's that just before it drops off?" "It sounds like a missile just before it explodes!"
Back on Opal, the smoking crater that used to be the Primary Radio Transmission tower was the site of a larger pandemonium than the one on Scorpio. Thousands of Neo-Dollars in crops and livestock(because the tower was in a rural area) had been lost, not to mention the most powerful antenna in the Union. "It was another missile attack, sir." "Impossible! The Protector fleet has been in place ever since the disbanding of the Vega Pirates!" "Get the Kestrel Commision!"

"Well Commander," said Zsaothelel in an amused voice, "you lost. So. I get to tell you why we're heading out there." His remark was met with Lelethos's grumbles, but the Fleet Commander chose to ignore that. "The Invasion has been in the planning stages for years, Lelethos. But it wasn't until recently that we discovered the Relay wormhole. That's our gateway into the enemy galaxy."
"And why are we going there?"
"Because we need more worlds. The core has long been depleted of resources. That was the whole reason of the Expansion: to get more minerals, foodstuffs, and living space. We need the first and the third now, and an entire galaxy would do much to alleviate the problems the Imperium is facing."
"So the whole reason we're going to war is for resources."
"Naturally. Can you think of a better reason to fight?"
"Not unless the enemy insulted our honor, no."
"Very good then. That's all for now. You're dismissed."
"Thank you sir."
=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=
The Relay Gate was almost complete. All that remained was for the highly superconductive cylinders to arrive. When they did come, they would be quickly installed, and the First Invasion Armada would enter another galaxy and seize it for the glory of the Imperator.
The Northern Regency holds a nationwide party. People have fun. Fleet stationed at Kathoon still, because no one has been responding to transmissions. Party ends. Morale raised.

"Unreal, Sir!" "What is it?" "One of our ODS just blew up! It took out all of the shipyard area that it was in!" "Damnit!" Unreal walks to the site of Shipyard Alpha 140A. A vast smoldering crater looms at him. Unreal gazes down into the bottom of the pit. Bodys of the workers are strewn about, mangled and bloody. "Damnit!" Unreal screams to someone only he can see. Unreal stands there in mourning for around 1 hour, still compleatly in shock. Unreal hears 3 whizzing sounds and another explosion rocks the planet. A short while later a larger explosion is heard. "Sir!" What is it?" "We have word who is doing this." "WHO IS IT?!?" Unreal booms. " It was 3 halubits, Each our own!" "What the bloody hell?" A another halubit streaks through the sky, This time heading towards Unreal.
Deep in the Opal Subterranean Bunker Network, the Kestral Commision was holding it's first council. The chairman, John Goras, took his seat at the head of the 50 foot long pure mahogany and cherrywood table. The 20 other High Council members where seated along the sides, each with a cup of premium blend coffe grown in the warm tropical belt of New Bavaria because it was nearly 25:00 (30 hours in a day on Opal). The Chairman, holding a personal speech scrambler/recorder to prevent evesdropping, began the meeting. "Welcome, you all have been selected by Presider Planas and myself to be in this elite interstellar terror and crime busting network. First of all, we need to have some sort of flagship. I needs to be stealthy. It needs to be powerful. It needs to be kept a secret. I have here the best ship designer in the Union, Karl Atinoda. The council directed their eyes to a very young, yet very intelligent ship designer from New Bavaria. "Well, yes I guess I'm quite gifted when it comes to the art of ship designing. I have never made any ships that needed to be stealthy, but I can give it a try. Mr.Goras here needed me here tonight because it would be best to take ideas fromt he Council before work begins." said the young, eccentric looking man.
"Well, I for one think it should have a full 360°+180° dome arc* laser turret mounted every 90 around the hull, to allow total laser coverage." Said one council member. "I have done some work in Weaponry Designing, and I have designed, in my spare time, a revolutionary new reloading mechanism for heavy rockets that I think we should incorporate. I also think that a 'flash-freeze' barrel cooling system would allow a phenominal rate of fire,(note that this still is nothing compared to "modern" laser cannons) although we would need to engineer some sort of metal to withstand freezing several times a minute." said another. After about 2 hours, and a very large pot of coffee, a basic blueprint was drawn on a napkin. Karl, obviously eccstatic to be in the company of such engineers and other intelligent individuals, was also obviously ready to start designing. "Expect a first draft about next week, maybe Thursday or Belday.(that's the day between thurday and friday on Opal)" "Great. Now, our security clearance credit for 2 hours and fifteen minutes has nearly expired, so we all need to quickly leave via our designated methods."
On Scorpio: "Sir, We have word that the Presidorial Fleet has entered Upper Altoionosphere, begin preparations for pressure restraint procedure." Said the ever curious senior radio operator Thomas Galfstaff onboard the former freighter Yak. /discourse The Pressure Restraint, used to open the large layer of Scorpium(an element found only here), the Piezosphere, between the Middle Ionosphere and Photosphere(the layer that gives Scorpio it's beautiful olivine color) that circles the globe every 25 hours, coincidentally was directly overhead when the Presider's fleet was coming in for a landing. It was a simple matter of four shuttles hovering at a square about 50 feet apart. Tethered to them was a collapsed cylander of flexiron. When the fleet neared, the shuttles would engage their specially fitted Atlas II engines, the same engines in Supertankers, and pull the Flexiron apart, thus making a hole so the fleet wouldn't burn up in the dense cloud.
"Welcome to Scorpio, Sir!" said the soon to be official Presidential Minister Maar. "Pleased to be here, on this newly claimed sphere of infulence." said the apperantly tired, but usually perky Presider of the Union of Pelagon. About an hour later, in front of the newly raised Planetary Capital a small party of security, officials and citizens had gathered to see a ribbon cutting ceremony which officialy will make Scorpio a member of the Union, yet for reasons known only to Planas himself, the 5 small moons of Scorpio remain only in the Union Protectorate, although the only things on them are small mining complexes erected earlier by the Little Ones, 3 rival mining corporations willing to lie, cheat, and steal to beat the other two out. The ribbon was cut, the Planet was officalized. "I declare this planet, Scorpio, to be an Arm of our Union."said the presider as he cut the ribbon with scissors that where later traced back to have cut the Red Ribbon of the Earth Public Spaceport decades earlier.
