Replicon missions in Galactic Scourge

Where do I get the Replicon wind, storm and tempest missions? I've done the "Free Slaves" mission, and i really want to see the earth destroyed.

------------------

Can't help you there... I've played GS inside out since it was released, yet the universe and mission library is so big in the plug that my memory fails me.

I think the Replicon string starts on any planet that you have dominated - go in the bar and someone tells you that it is your duty to protect the planet and that you need to go and kill three RepliCruisers.. I think.

"I expect you'd like to know about frogmen?"

Here is the sequence:

1. Begin the Diphidia Missions (you don't actually have to complete them).
2. Go to a non-Astex bar to get "Free Slaves" (20% chance, must have Dangerous rating)
3. Go to the bar in any dominated planet to get "Replicon Wind" (10% chance)
4. Go to the bar in a Confed dominated planet to get "Replicon Storm" (10% chance)
5. Go to the bar in a Rebel dominated planet to get "Replicon Tempest" (10% chance)

Do this and you can see this:

You can also go to the bar in a non-aligned dominated planet to get "Rock Invasion" (100% chance) after step 5, but this is a side branch.

After this is over, go to New Earth and do missions to improve you legal status until you get the final mission of the game (30% chance), "Save the Universe."

Youre the developer of GS? Excellent, then you can answer me a question I have long pondered on. Why does the Pirate Sparrow have abysmal shields? It has only 7.5 shields, meaning that it has less shields than a Defender. All other fighters- including the extremely heavily armed Rapier have at least shields of 20. Is it to balance that its faster than a Azdara, has good recharge rate, and is armed with Space Bombs? If it that its OK because it balances fights with AI. But for player I would rather not have a ship that dies from a few Laser or Proton shots, and you need all shields you can get if you youre not sure you can use Space Bombs without hitting yourself.

You pretty much hit the nail on the head. One of the things Max and I spent large amounts of time on was balance. We would create test systems with different ratios of ships, assign them different governments, and measure the statistics of their performance. In addition, we tried to be careful of cost and appropriate power for its niche.
As an aside, we also were very careful to be sure that no ship cost less than its components. This is the reason we had to increase the price of the Confed Gunboat (or was it the Patrolship) and make the swivel lasers so cheap. Also, we tried to be sure that there was enough story depth the a player could piece most things together, but most answers were not presented to you in detail and we tried very hard to keep references to the player gender-neutral.
The Sparrow (I cannot remember if we had to delete the text due to space considerations) is made of "nylon-balsa composits." Designed for speed (800), acceleraton (1000), turing (6), and recharge (20) above all else, shields and armor would take a back seat. If you inisit on flying it, dump the heavy bombs and buy defensive upgrades. Remember the ship only costs $70K and it is designed by Pirates--safety of light smugglers/fighter pilots is not of central importance.
The final product is flown expertly by the AI. It needs the swivel lasers since it is so fast, and it can make a pretty big mine field quickly. Try capturing them as escorts! We ran out of outfits, so it cannot be purchased, but as I recall there is a Pirate Prince out there with a Sparrow Bay.

You can get info on the ships at (url="http://"http://www.geocities.com/ev_scourge/gs_ships.html")http://www.geocities...e/gs_ships.html(/url) While I am at it, I forgot to mention in the previous post that during the Replicon Storm (?) you can buy the NASA Exterminator. We once had a ship and government made of escaped rifts. There were even missions to destroy them. These were replaced by Hydra Dominators.

If I had the time I would expand GS in the EVN engine. But then again (url="http://"http://www.geocities.com/ev_scourge/attractions.html")GS II(/url) has been on indefinate hold for some years (I should proably post the galaxy, ships, and weapons which were completed for a EVO TC someday. I would also finish the masterful Myth II plugin (url="http://"http://www.nono.com/phelot") Shade of Gray (/url)

I hope this mental meander helps.

May I just say that Galactic Scourge is (i feel) the best of the EV plugins. Aside from two one-way jumps to the pirate systems, you guys did awesome work. Descriptions, novelty, ships, outfits, wonderful. Really wonderful.

The Falcon and it's IOS setup was my favorite ship. Unfortunately I neutered it when i accidentaly sold the IOS. Oopsie.

Still, if you run out of outfits, you could try converting it to EVO, or just skipping the intermediate step and doing what you want ---> porting it to Nova.

CHeers,
Guapo
Edit: I bought the Battle Station and outfitted it with Acceleration, RCS, and speed upgrades. Now THAT was FUN to fly. 😉
Also, the missions that weren't part of storylines...delivering stuff to theme parks and all that... 😄

Thanks for the praise!

The two one-way jumps to the southern pirate systems are deliberate. The story explains that the jumps were not quite completed. I think that once you open Dinosaur Village for business the jumps work, but I don't recall anymore.

I did port it over to EVO some time ago including some new outfits (e.g. guest rooms and luxury quarters necessary for various grades of passenger missions), some re-rendered ships (see below), x- offsets on weapons, outfits on ships, and improved missions. But I didn't quite finish and never had a chance to rigourously test it (the hard part).

(ship yard images of the GS for EVO Vulture, Halibut, Confed Carrier, and Confed Destroyer).

I haven't looked at the EVN bible too much, but porting it there should be a lot more work. For one I would want to re-render all the ships with moving parts, more colors, etc.

There is also (url="http://"http://www.geocities.com/ev_scourge/attractions.html")Galactic Scourge II(/url) which occurs in a different galaxy (you get to jump around the galactic arms of (url="http://"http://www.seds.org/messier/m/m051.html")NGC 5194(/url) starting with an ancient wreck of a Confed Cruiser (drifting for centuries after the replicon war) and moving up in technology (exponentially) as you travel towards the far edge of the galaxy making new freinds and enemies. We made some of the galaxy, all the ships, many of the outfits, and none of the missions. It will never see the light of day.

Aww...well, that's the problem with beating brilliance - you set yourself a VERY high bar to beat...poor IonStorm...

Cheers,

Guapo :frown:. It looks as if it was interesting- what does the rusty Confed Cruiser mean?
