Always buy an Argosy instead of a Light Freighter if you have the money

They're good to have in case you get stuck in an empty system without any fuel. And I agree with Zax on the Argosy. It's a much better deal than the light freighter, which is painfully slow.

On second thoughts, go ahead and buy the Light Freighter. I can remember some crazy ships and weapon selections I made when I first started the game, maybe being told what ships to get from an old space-junkie is the wrong thing.
Some stupid things I've done:
Shuttlecraft: Mass expansion, 1 missile rack, 10 missiles and a laser cannon. Courier: 1 proton cannon, 1 torpedo launcher, 7 torpedoes, 1 ramscoop, 1 sheild capacitor, 1 sheild booster. Courier: 1 hawk bay Argosy: 7 mass expansions, 3 laser cannons, 2 missile racks, 135 missiles. Kestrel: 4 laser cannons, 2 missile racks and god knows how many missiles. Very easy to kill a cruiser from long range, if you're willing to pay 300000 credits for missiles! Confed Cruiser: 2 missile racks, tons of missiles (over 300)

My favourite ship and outfits is an Argosy, 7 mass expansions, 2 proton turrets. 3 proton cannons, a rocket launcher and the rest of the space filled with rockets. It's viciously effective.
I have made some stupid decisions though...
ΒKeeping the rocket launcher on a Lightning. All you end up doing is blowing yourself up on asteroids.
Β Buying a Defender. Period.
Β Teying to fight in a Light Freighter.
Damn exams
Try AS levels, matey. It's a lot more damnable.

You have to get 250 units of fuel to make them worthwhile! Unless you're using something like a Scoutship, it's bad. And I'm not doing much fighting in a freighter.
Continuing the turret debate:
It seems to me that, if something weighs as much as a turret does compared to a cannon, it should at least have an autotarget computer. I usually sell the turrets that come with couriers and freighters in favor of cannons and shield monkey-arounds. I often geta defender escort going into Darven.

Zax: Where do you buy Argosies?. Stupid question, butI don't have the gas, combat rating, and legal stats to wander around.
I want a corvette! Ship and car!
If you engine upgrade, light freighters are downright speedy.

My brother's doing those at the moment, he seems to be betting along okay with them, except English. I don't sympathise with him, he should have been revising instead of going out on dates every three days.
The Journalist, if you buy an Engine upgrade on an Argosy, it becomes as fast as a Lightning. You can buy Argosies and Corvettes on Sol, Blackthorne (I think), Ruby, Port Oread(again, I'm not certain), Pashlife.
If you're going to buy a Corvette, you probably wont have space for missiles and torpeodoes. I tend to go for a Hawk Bay instead, since I hate using weapons that run out of ammunition, but which one you choose is all up to the pilot.
P.S: Never, ever get neutron blasters. 4 laser cannons, 2 javelin pods and a layer of Armaplast is a far better use of 35 tons.

Hmm, havn't seen them at Blackthorne, but i havn't looked, either. All those other places, I, um, am less than friendly with at the moment.
My second choice is, I think Clipper(it's the blue delta-wing thing, not sure about name) Less expensive than a Vette.

Yeah, I've seen them there.
Update: Combat Rating: Noteworthy Ship: Clipper
I'm leaving to camp on Sunday, so I won't get much playing in before then. See ya'll again in a week.
My view on ramscoops has changed a bit: dude3, playing on my computer(he has a PC), Was stranded in Risa. A Rebel destroyer charged him 8,000 credits to get back to Zaphod. So, if you're exploring, ramscoops can be nice, or if you're planning to keep a ship for a while(I have one on my clipper, as I'm saving for a kestrel). Other than that, poo
Originally posted by Captain Skyblade: It's not a dumb rule, just more realistic. From my point of view, you should have to target the ship you wish to fire your turrets at. Ares does that for you automatically, which kinda takes away some of the fun.
Well, i've found that sometimes firing your guns at a ship that you have not targeted (you need to target someone else) makes for an easy kill. Maybe that's just another bug in EV, because it normally doesn't work in EVO, but that's just my two cents.
------------------ Long Live The Rebellion!
I usually go for a Scoutship, then a Corvette, and if I'm playing for the Rebels I next go for a Rebel Cruiser.
Still, if I were you I might try and download a few good "add-on to the universe" plugins. A few goods ones are: Pale Eye of Orion Final Battle
Also, MAGMA is a good grahpics plguin.
God bless,

Dah! I just lost my UGE job in that stupid smuggling mission. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
BTW-i got a vette at New Antigua a while ago.

Heh, I never did accept that smuggling mission. 100000 credits is fine for me since a rush delivery only pays a quarter of that.
