EVO had a severe lack of ships immediately available to you, and the only good ship in EVN (in my opinion - lets not turn this into a "the best ship is..." topic) is the starbridge. It looks cool, and has good ability. The rebel destroyer is the best ship across the whole series; fast, powerful and probably the coolest looking ship ever (even if it is just an argosy with a different paint job). The EV:N ships are too cheap and easily got; with EV there was a genuine sense of achievement if you get to a more powerful ship, and it meant that the game lasted much longer.

Well, thats what I think anyway.

Yes, that was one thing I always liked about EV... ship balance. Every ship had its own special purpose, for better or for worse. Not too many classes, not too few. And in general, I didn't really care for any of the Override vessels.

On the other hand - I think (hope?) that the good plugs for Nova will be really good, because only the truly dedicated and talented developers are going to push those complex projects through to the end. ::oh Martin Turner, where art thou?::

even if a total of 20-30 plug ins ever come out that add missions and new ships...I believe the developers that are able to create good plugs will put in the extra effort to keep the game looking crisp and clean, and the story and extra missions could only make the game better, not just add to it. At least that's what I'm hoping for. Either way, I'm figuring ATMOS will be writing in extra plugs, missions, etc....utilizing the full engine's capabilities...I'm hoping for that too.

Okay, I've already mentioned the ships, but has anyone noticed that all the ships in EV:N are too cheap? I mean, in EV classic, the only ships that you could really go pirating in cost upwards of 1 million (if you fancied going out fighting in a lightning; I'd wait for the corvette, and that cost about 2.5m credits), and it was only then that you could really start to earn money; the only missions available to the shuttle/scoutship/clipper/argosy pilot were the rush deliveries, so it took ages. I know that people went pirating in lesser/cheaper ships than the corvette, or even the lightning, but whatever you chose it generally took quite a while to get to the stage where you could really start earning and get into the government missions. Nova, on the other hand, is easy to get to an advanced stage. Playing fairly casually, I'm now about half way through the polarus string in a modified starbridge thats been kitted out with all sorts of fancy wizardry. With the United Shipping missions, it took no time to get to the Mod Starbridge, and to get to where I am took a few hours. Its not possible to get so far into EV in that period of time. I don't know, some people might prefer the quick access into EV:N, but EV was more rewarding.

I like the original escape velocity so much better than evn. Even though the graphics are better and we finally have someone to hate, (there never seemed to be a main leader of the forces in ev and evo) the storylines are too short and repetitive. Ship cargo here. Run blockade there. Where's the fighting? EVO is fun because of the major warring in the Strand and UE/Voinian wars, but the ships i think look a little clunky. The shuttle is just plain ugly. I'm still devoted to EV and until i see a good plug-in for nova i'm stickin' to it.

nuff said 😉

I think one of the obstacles to major add-on plugins to EVN is the fact that the graphics are just too darn good. With EV and EVO one could easily make a ship that would fit in perfectly with the EV/O universe (especially before EV's graphics update) with Mechanisto, Infini-D, or any other program. Nova, on the other hand, has a much more complicated graphics style, one that is more specific, and has a lot more details (banking, exhaust grahpcis, etc). For plugin makers, one problem with the EVn grahpics is that it basically makes virtually all the online EV/O shipyards obselete. Yes, you could claim that (url="http://"http://www.modenstudios.com/shipyard/")Meowx's shipyard(/url) has some stuff that could fit in Nova, they lack banking, exhaust, etc.

Got to go to dinner now.

God bless,
