Hello everyone. I'm Cara, EVula's "famous" other (better?) half. So, after playing EV for only about a month, last night, I completed the Rebel mission string. Now I have a few questions. First, any advice on what to do next? I've got a souped-up Kestrel which I love dearly. Should I buy one of the Rebel ships? Can I just go around nuking Pirates, or are there secret mission strings to find? Oh, and I see the occasional Alien Fighter cruising around occasionally now. Is that normal? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, and I don't know what EVula's other half is. If you love your Kestrel a lot, go ahead and keep it. Most people like the Rebel cruiser or destroyer more, but it's your choice. There aren't any secret missions aside from the occasional cargo run which only gets you money, but if you get a plug you can get more. Seeing alien fighters around after the alien missions is normal. Hope this helped.

Yes well nuking Pirates is a lot of fun for a while. I suggest that you get a pluging or make a new player and play the (shudder) the confeds (/shudder). Or you could try EVO... Me I like to nuking Pirates a lot more then the confed mission string...

Look for the Artemis Group missions. The string starts when you pick up "Lucas", IIRC. The final mission is quite fun.
You could also try dominating planets.

how about you get EV Override. Whole new cool escape velocity game Then get Frozen Heart for Override after you've beaten each of the 7 major government strings in it.
------------------ Go Red Sox! Down with the Yankees! Go Patriots! Down with whoever they're playing next! Go Bruins!
Heya babe!
Pale, EV Game Expander, and Final Battle are all nice continuations/expansions of/on the stock universe, you may wanna check out those. Backup the pilot, though, as it's always a good idea to do that when starting on a new plug (so you don't have to go back to the very beginning just to play another one).
Glad to see you finally posted.

I know that I will have to fear for my life after saying this, but sigh OK:
The Confed mission string is just more fun!
The missions are more varied, and when you finally get the Confed Cruiser it's like no other! Admittedly you only get one extra outfit through the Confeds, but it's a lot more interesting than the tractor beam, and makes dominating systems more challenging when you're unable to use a cloak. Plus, the Cruiser has such a large crew that you can even capture yourself an impressive Fleet Of DoomΒ. And, as an added extra, you get that warm, fuzzy feeling of being the legal galaxy-oppressing bad guy
Or, if you don't have the MAGMA plugin, you can just download that for a fresh look on the game. Or get Override for a bigger universe with more governments. Hey, the galaxy is your, erm, seashell!!

Welcome to the web board.

Since you have only completed the Rebel mission string, I would advise you to start a new pilot file and complete the confederate mission string. You can also download some great plug-ins which expand the Rebel storyline such as: Final Battle, Galactic Scourge, Pale, EV Game Expander, etc. These plug-ins can be acquired from The EV Addons Site which is controlled by EVula.
Originally posted by Proverbial Friday: I've got a souped-up Kestrel which I love dearly. Should I buy one of the Rebel ships?
If you like the Kestrel, I would suggest trying out the Rebel Destroyer. It is built around speed and power, and is my favorite ship. Of course, if you prefer superior weaponry and strength, then the Rebel Cruiser fits the bill.
Originally posted by Proverbial Friday: Can I just go around nuking Pirates, or are there secret mission strings to find?
If you enjoy blasting pirates, go right ahead. There are several mission strings and missions which you may not have completed.
Astrodyne Outpost Missions: A string comprising of five(?) missions which involve you in Rebel intelligence mining
Artemis Group Missions: A mission string where you assist a group of mercenaries in defeating a large pirate threat
Clotho Arms Missions: A mission in which you bring arms from a distant Confed base to Clotho and then redistribute them in the following missions (which repeat ad infinitum)
Originally posted by Proverbial Friday: Oh, and I see the occasional Alien Fighter cruising around occasionally now. Is that normal?
That is perfectly normal, EVs resources are arranged so that will happen. I conjecture that it is designed to comprise the escaped remnants of the Alien strike force (cruiser) which you destroyed.
Hope that helps!

Bah, her Kestrel could take out a Cruiser.
Well, I know I could, maybe she couldn't.

She's done that. You do that before the Aliens (I think), and she killed the Cruiser the other day. I'm so proud.

Indeed, that would be a good mission to do.

Now, now. Don't compare Human to AI. On the flipside, a Rebel Cruiser can take out a Kestrel just as easily.
Originally posted by EVula: You do that (Astrodyne Outpost Missions) before the Aliens (I think)
Actually, they are bit independent of the Alien missions. You can do them after completing the Rebel entry missions. The mission string where you acquire the cloaking device is the precursor to the Alien Mission String. Although they are bit independent, most players do them first for two reasons.
A: The requirements to receive the first mission are less stringent
B: The tractor beam is extremely useful against the Alien menace

Ah, I was not aware of that. Oh well, moot point, she's done that one, too.
...Final Battle, Galactic Scourge, Pale, EV Game Expander
Are any of these plugins compatible with MAGMA? As you can tell I've become kind of attached to it...
...and I am one of those poor souls that discovered the tractor beam after killing the Cruiser with immense difficulty, whilst being plagued by it's 2 (It's always been 2 for me) fighters. Boo hoo :frown:
As a Confed, I haven't discovered any way of ridding the galaxy of those fighters though. The closest I got was using the Confed's 'gift' and space bombs. Which resulted in me inadvertently committing ritual suicide. Boo hoo :frown:
Originally posted by EVula: Ah, I was not aware of that.
Most people aren't, as the missions usually occur in the same order (refer to above post).
Originally posted by EVula: **Oh well, moot point, she's done that one, too.:) **
Very true.

I am not sure. I know that FB and GS are not compatible. However, I am not sure about Pale or EVGE. Maybe EVula knows?

Heh. I feel your pain. However, it is still possible to kill the pesky Alien Fighters w/o the tractor beam. (see succeeding comment)

There are two ways.
1: Capture a Rebel Destroyer or Cruiser and deck it out with engine upgrades and primary weapons
2: Purchase a Corvette and unload on the fighters with javelins and primaries

I don't think that EVGE modifies the graphics of any of the old ships; however, MAGMA would definetly not match the style of the rest of the ships.
Pale does modify the fighters of the game (so they are about half the size), so I highly doubt that it would be compatible.
I've been playing this game almost since its release, and I have not once gotten the tractor beam. How do you get that mission string??? Somebody PLEASE answer, nobody has as of yet.

Heh - here is the mission information:
MΒsn: #230 Name: Astrodyne Outpost Recruitment Available Stellar: Palshife Necessary MΒsn Completion: Transport Rebel Parcels (#172) Legal Rating: 64 (Upstanding Citizen) Combat Rating: 6400 Crew Killed (Dangerous) Chance of Occuring: 15% (Ε7 Attempts)
Hope it helps!
Open the first Astrodyne Outpost mission in Schmelta-V (or if you're brave, EV-Edit) and look at where it says it is available. If the odds are against you, just make a plugin that makes the mission's availability 100% and you should definetly get it.

Do you hate Res-Edit or do you ph33r it? Go Res-Edit!

I love ResEdit, but Schmelta-V tells you exactly what the planet's name is, rather than forcing you to cross-reference the resource ID with the corresponding spΓΆb.
