Here's how to Emulate a Mac

I'm not a regular here, but I figure it applies here just as much as the EVO board.

After much, much, much frustration and seeing a lot of topics about people looking for emulators I decided to make a tutorial showing step by step how to set one up, with all the supplies included. This tutorial is much more helpful than Basilisk II's confusing and jumbled tutorials and site layout, and should get you running in no time.

So here's the tutorial on (url="http://"http://www.geocities.com/game_master107/howtoemulateamac.html") How to Emulate a Mac.(/url)

Tell me what you think, be brutal.

------------------
If you give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day. If you don't give a man a fish, you'll have something for dinner..

Basilisk II is what I use, which I find to work very well!

------------------

It's also what the tutorial is set up around.

------------------
If you give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day. If you don't give a man a fish, you'll have something for dinner..

Good Grief!

All these "emulating" topics are amazing. Stop being so cheap. Buy a MAC.

You can get a good used MAC for less than $400. See Shreve Systems, Mac-Res-Q, et al. and then really enjoy EV.

(End of rant.)

I seem to have become unregistered on this topic alone. Must be a bug. Karl,

1. Some people think PCs are better (no flaming, please)
2. Some people only have access to macs
3. Some people don't have enough of a cash flow to get rid of their PC and buy a Mac
4. Have a nice day
5. Goodbye
6. You're still reading?

So? If you like EV, save your pennies and buy a used MAC as your second (third? ... and EV) computer.

2. Some people only have access to macs (/QUOTE)

Huh? Then why emulate?

3. Some people don't have enough of a cash flow to get rid of their PC and buy a Mac (/QUOTE)

Who said anything about getting rid of your PC? See above.

It seems apparent to me that the emulators are "klugey". Why put up with such a headache? Don't be so cheap. Buy a MAC.

$50 is to much for a desktop (Quadra 700) that runs EV? Ha.

Seriously though, you can buy one for that cheap. I used to run EV wonderfully on my Quadra 700. EVO is "ok".

OK Karl...for #

2. Replace "have" with "had"
3. Replace "get rid of their PC" with "get an additional computer that's a mac" and use this to answer your comeback of point one.

As for your last point: that's why I'm making this tutorial, to make the emulator far less "klugey" as you say. And karl, if you get the urge to reply again, resist it.

Anyway, I've fixed the page up. A couple files were moved which made the links not work, but now everything works fine.

Heh! Good idea, you set the link in your sig. I have set the link in the EV FAQ, too.

Long live the MAC!

Nice tutorial, but regarding the speed tips at the bottom: The speed at which EV will run obviously corresponds to the PC doing the emulating. I think you should mention how fast your PC is; for some people it will be a lot better and for some a lot worse.

Your suggestion is appriciated, the addition has been made.

When EVN will be out, I wonder how much powerful the PC should be to make it run normally Something like 1500 MHz processor and I'm not PesimistGuy

Hey Warbeast, I emailed this to you, but i don't know if you check your mail much, so i'll post it here just incase:

I ran into a problem with Basilisk II

I used a rom from a IIsi (which isn't listed in the 'General' tab in the GUI, does that matter? if it does could you please email me the rom you use?

The problem is, every time i run Basilisk II, it comes up with the little computer with the smilie face, but then it goes to the image of a disk with a blinking question mark on it, could you please help?

Funny enough, I checked this topic and my e-mail at the same time. May as well respond here. Did you put both the MacHD.hfv and the Starterdisk.hfv in the Installed Disks category under the Disk tab? If you have, then what size is the ROM Image File you're using?

I was walking along a couple of weeks ago, and i suddenly remembered how incredibly cool EV was. So i went home and got me basilisk 2, and a rom, and the starterdisk thing. After much buggering about i finally got macOS installed and tried to run EV... no success. after more buggering about i narrowed down the problem to EV not liking the resolution and colours so i changed that and now it runs sweet... faster than my old performa. But then i do have an AMD 1ghz 🙂

If you can't get it to work, go buy an old apple II off ebay for Ł5, it'll be worth it.

I worked out what the problem was: the Starterdisk.hfv i had was corrupt, so i re-downloaded it and now it works sweet, thanks!

Well, it might not run at all. If EVN is compiled to only work on PPCs, then it can't be emulated. Because there are no PPC emulators, every Windows emulator out there now emulates the old 68k chip.

I have heard talk of a 68K version of Nova, although I can't imagine that a 68K or an emulator would be able to do a very good job of running it.

I'm using Ardi's executor to run EV right now. I've heard that Basilisk II works a lot better than this, but, I can't get the Mac rom. Is there a way I can get it without having to buy a mac? Or is there a site I can get it from? I would really appreciate a response.
