Not a topic relating directly to Escape Velocity, but nevertheless important.
You all are probably aware with the big problems between the major cable companies (Comcast, AT&T; etc.), and everything is suppost to go under early tommorow morning. If I don't post for a few (or even many) months, you'll know that I lost my internet access. :frown: Heck, I hope everything is resolved before hand...

I'm in the same boat, but I doubt this will take months to resolve. I don't think it'll take more than a couple of weeks at the absolute most to get some kind of temp solution in place - assuming the system does go down. That is not guaranteed. /crosses fingers

And it looks like Cox is affected as well which means I might not be here for a while. Not that most board members would complain.

Heh, if Skyblade, spl_cadet, and I all disappear, that could tank BfS III pretty thoroughly... :frown:
What's this about cable going down? I have TWC RoadRunner. Am I in danger?
And Skyblade, Macavenger, and cadet, if you guys end up gone, I may just leave, too.

Remember that you are a unique individual - just like everybody else.
It won't be permanent. AT&T;, and apparently some other companies, have their own broadband cables, but are contracting the actual internet connection out to Excite. Well, Excite has filed Chapter 11, and has recieved permission from a judge to shut their servers down as early as 3am tomorrow. If that happens, we certainly won't have email, almost certainly not webspace, and possibly no internet connection.
I'll be trapped on a 33.6 this weekend anyway, so I'll be around at least a couple more days.
I don't remember seeing TWC Roadrunner on the list of companies. SInce you're email address isn't at home.com, I kinda doubt it.
I have GTE Worldwind, so I'm probably in danger. And I've already been experiencing some problems. /me gets down and prays.

The companies listed as being affected are AT&T;, Comcast Corp. and Cox Communications Inc., but I don't think that's a full list, those are just the largest.
<edit> Someone give me a STUPID sign, I posted that I was giving a link and forgot to add the url tags. </edit>
I hope I can get on.

Don't worry, I'll do my best to be back on the forums as soon as I can. Looks like Cox, AT&T;, and Comcast are going to get hit the hardest, with over 4 million users losing their internet access...
I use AT&T;, but I still have access to a dialup, which isn't horrible, I guess...

Wow... I'm lucky I'm using a local server! (http://www.Velocitus.net) It's only available in the Northwest. (Idaho (where I am), Washington, Oregon, Montana, and I think Utah.)

Nice stuff, Pikeman. I like the bit about monkeyisland - is that true, or did you make it up?
On topic, it looks like we won't be gone too long, if we have to be at all.
From an AT&T; statement: The company said that individual customers could be moved to the new network in one to 14 days if necessary.
About another hour and a half until the moment of truth, by my figures...
The idiotic thing about this, is it's AT&T;'s own fault. They knew months ago they were going to allow Excite@home to go under* ... but did not think about (did not CARE about?) the impact to the customers.
I better stop before my anti-AT&T; rant gets into the next gear....

That's monkey land , and yes, it was a real channel on #ev3. Albiet it lasted for about 5 minutes, but the legend lives on.
Guess what guys, I'm still here. In a way, I seriosuly doubt that we'll be losing our internet service, since it's likely to cause plenty of fuss throughout the states...
I'm still here as well.

Good. I've got a feeling Mac might have lost his service, though... We can't start BFS III without him.

Nope, still here.
Bastards at AT&T; don't have correct reconfiguration instructions for OS X, though... I've been forced to reboot to OS 9 just to get here.
Anyway, I'm still here, but my email address has changed slightly. If anyone's sent me anything in the last 12 hours or so, resend it to the new address, because there's a good chance it's lost.
