sigh They're the ships that you have to fight at the end of the Rebel and/or Confed storylines.
Like I said elsewhere, just play the game, a lot of your questions would be answered if you did that.

Yes, the game has no "real" ending, but note that I didn't say the end of the game. I said the end of the Rebel and Confed strings. Those missions are considered "the end" of the game, as there is nothing else, mission wise, to do after that.
Anyway, after you defeat the Aliens, you can purchase whatever government you played for's ships. That, and 10 million credits.

Let's all give a big hand to EVula, who here revealed the end of Escape Velocity!

You cannot "beat" Escape Velocity or EV Override. It just keeps going as long as you want it to, although it will start to get repetitive once you finish all the missions.

Tips for beating the aliens:
1. Get a ton of Lightning Escorts. They can sometimes evade the Alien's powerful weapons, and at least distract the Alien Fighters while you take on the Cruiser.
2. Use a manueverable ship. A Confed Cruiser is not the right ship at all, a Rapier with Shield upgrades should do.
3. When attacking the Cruiser, use Javelin Rockets when shooting from behind. Heavy Rockets work well too. And, it you're lucky enough to have a Fighter Bay, Hawks can help too (for the four seconds that they're alive).
4.The Alien missle thingys that are launched at you cannot be deterred. The best way to face them is to charge at them and pull sharply to one side at the last moment. Hey, works for me.
