How would you rate the Alien missions?

I've been wondering lately, with all this hearing of "you need cheats to kill the aliens" (a quote of a quote, of course) and hence forth. When I fought them, I was pretty disappointed, really. Give the Alien Cruiser 60ş more turning and THEN I might fear it, but in all reality, you only need a Corvette to easily take out the Alien Cruiser, or a Rebel Destroyer to take out Alien Fighters (steal steal).

And I recognise straight off that I'm no master of EVO. So I thought, maybe, I'd hold a poll.

1-5, how hard would you say those missions were?

Please reply - ah, c'mon, it's a good place to boast too.

1/5-that means the easiest possible there, right?

that's how hard it is for me now anyways, when I first tried it, it was quite a bit harder.

2/5. I didn't have to do anything, I just cloaked and watched the show. 😉

First time (times, really) that I tried I was slaughtered. The Aliens seemed absolutely indestructable, because whenever I ventured near I was obliterated by the heavy fusion beam. Soon, however, I learned that I just had to get behind the big one and use turrets. Once I understood the technique, it is easy as... well, something that is really really easy. 😛 At first it was hard - like a 4 or 5 - but now it is easy - like a 1 or 1.5.

Oh, and excuse my ignorance, but what does Epsoner mean?

Esponer mean, Ares1? Esponer is me , whoever the hell I am. It means me, and it always will. It is nothing else.

But if you must know it's source, the "esp" stands for extra sensory perception (psychic). The "oner" is pretty pointless, really.

Also, SilverDragon is actually my ship. 🙂 Lightning / Crescent Fighter, sometimes called the Silver Falcon.

Quite quite quite easy. In fact, in one of my plugs I took on a FLEET of alien cruisers, killed one easily, but since I was in a hurry i had to run off after that. I was in a corvette, and ONLY used laser turrets and laser cannons. 🙂

First time for me was 4/5, but over time it has dwindled down to 1/5 or even 2/5, depending on what ship I'm in. It's actually quite simple really; all you need is a bulk frieghter loaded with space bombs. Unload bombs and blow up next to it. Simple as that.

Yeah, but you'd blow up with it. Plus, don't forget the asteroids. In earlier versions, wouldn't you have been able to send an about-to-explode asteroid after one? Those would do a lot of damage.

I would have to say 4 or 5. But that was when I was little, about 9 or 10. If I had continued playing EV I would say 2 or 3. But after that I never tried the missions again and then I stopped playing EV, so I didn't get any better at it.

4-5/5 first time, 1/5 now.

When Nova comes out, we should try it with a Nova AI upgrade, similar to the EVO AI Upgrade, and see how hard it is. I bet the Aliens will be quite a bit more difficult to beat that way.

I'm goign to go with everyone else, and make the comment that it would seem that all that is required to defeat the Aliens is technique, and not very much else.

The Alien Cruiser is a good ship with one big huge weakness, as are the Alien Fighters. Better AI would certainly make them more difficult, but they will still have that silly flaw.

Oh well, mark me in at 3/5 because I cheat, and I'm just not very good at these darn things.

If I was honest, 2/5 the first time, 1/5 now. Although I did get killed because I didn't know about the whammy beam that bitch carries. I figured out how to kill it the second time.

"How can I make it go faster?" -Me-

I get the sense there are more/different Alien missions in EVO -- which I have never played. (Went to download it. Read the ReadMe. Lost interest.)

In EV, I had read so many posts which made me think the Kestrel was the "bare minimum" ship for the mission ... and I believed them. I carried that mission around in my Active Missions file for days of game play. Once I got a Kestrel (had to buy it -- disabled at least 30 and never captured one) I completed the mission fairly easily. But by then I already knew to ignore the fighters, etc.

Beginner: 3/5
Now: 1/5 (Knowledge is power.)

P.S. The Tractor Beam Mission is still the most frustrating for me (5/5 early, 3/5 now). Maybe it's me, but if my Escorts aren't blasting the Exec Transport, some pirates do. (And it took me at least a dozen attempts before I asked for help on the boards and learned it only takes __________ to disable the thing. I had WAY too heavy a trigger finger on the proton cannons.)

Personally, EV is a breeze. In the end, EV and EVO all come down to speed, and in EV at least, speed isn't a problem. Buy a Kestrel, give it speed upgrades, then you've got the player speed upgrade thing, and all of a sudden you're faster than Lightnings and can evade missiles. <shrugs>

PS: But that's not to say that some "rescue ______" missions weren't difficult. 🙂

I hear you, Espy. At the <shrug> point in EV ... I go to Plug-Ins. I still find them more interesting than the mere description of EVO. (That's why they make chocolate and vanilla...)
