Yep. testing can be fun, but is also a lot of work. Beta testing in particular - if you are just playing the game, you arent doing it right.
I actually was involved in the starcraft beta (for free) and a reference from the programmers helped me get a real paid QA job.
Now that i actually work in QA, i don't really want to be testing for free at home. Unless Ambrosia would like to pay me, but it looks like they have a good core of testers who will work for free.
