Yeap, yet another ship survey. Haven't ever seen a poll on these two ships before, so why not give it a try?

I'm certainly pro-rebel, but I'm not casting my vote for the Manta simply for that reason. Having played Escape Velocity for years on end, I've began to respect speed over firepower any day.
During an AI engagement between the Manta and Patrol Ship, the Confederation fighter usually wins. Why? Usually because of the extra proton cannon it features. According to ResEdit, the laser cannon and proton cannon give the same amount of energy damage (although the proton cannon causes much more mass damage). Therefore, the extra proton cannon carried by 'Fed Patrol Ships is the winning ticket.
The Manta, in the hands of a real player, is as good as the Azdara of Override. It's amazing speed and agility make is a deadly dogfighter, and certainly fun to fly. If you want even more out of the Manta, sell the missiles along with the racks, and buy javelin pods instead with as much ammo as you want (up to 999). Use the remaining space to buy a fuel tank, and you're all set to go.
My vote goes for the Manta, simply because I prefer speed over anything. Not only that, but it doesn't have blue dots. Vote away! I intend to use the results for future pages at Saber Studios...

I also forgot to add that the Patrol Ship is a total rip-off when it comes to the price. Why buy a 'Fed fighter with the money you could be using to buy nearly four Mantas?
I would much rather fly a Manta, but the AI handles Patrol Ships better. Put me down for a Manta, though.

Gee, I never realizaed how crappy the Partol Boat was.
Well, If I had to fly one, I'd choose the Manta. I love the swivel laser cannons, and they're the only ship that has them.

For looks, manta. For power, patrol ship. Patrol ship is better, I guess, because it comes with more pre-installed outfits, you can outfit it more to your own liking.
Personally, I never use either because they can't take out capitol ships. Even if you say that in the right hands they can, they cant. They can only hold so many long range weapons, and to get in close enough to use close range weapons you will get blown away by a cruiser's proton bolts.
When all is said and done, I'm going to cast my vote for the Patrol ship, because it's obvious that the manta will win and I want to be the minority so that I can complain later on.

Patrol ship. The only reason that it costs more is that EV was made so that you would work for the Rebels. It really doesn't matter what weapons they have though, because they always kill each other first with the missiles.

Myriad: Agreed. I also like the swivel laser cannons. In an older version of Escape Velocity, I believe the defender also carried three of these, but not as of version 1.0.5.

If I was a fleet comander I would buy "nearly four" mantas then "nearly one "patrol ship. Manta!

Why buy a ship with no outfits over a better ship with plenty of money for more missiles and escorts? My vote goes to the Manta for speed and cost.

I'd just like to point out that the Manta was originally a Confederation ship, but the Confed version went out of production after the Great War, and all the Rebels did was paint the edges red.
