Look at the round circles to the left of the topic names! They're now green. Wonder why they did that?

Oh, that happens once in a while. Probably just Ambrosia's cruddy server, or Andrew fooling around.
(Edit- Hey, congrats on the new karma point! When/where'd you get that?)

It has happened before? Ah well, it just seems so weird.

I have had Decent Individual (1) for quite a while. I got it for explaining Karma to a newbie.

Now they all turned red.
RC is right about how they are supposed to work. As a matter of practice, sometimes they will be all green, sometimes all red, and once in a blue moon (OK, a little more often than that ) they'll work like they're supposed to.

They'll always work like they're supposed to if every time you start browsing the boards, you go to (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/cgi-bin/ubb/Ultimate.cgi?action=intro&category;=5")this page(/url) first (or sign on through the main UBB page) rather than going directly to a specific board.

You're sure? I used to have problems with them sometimes back when I always came directly to the main page, though I admit they were much more consistent back then.

My experience is that if your cookies are set up properly and you always go to the main page first, it will always work.
Well, I was going to post the same thing as mac and RC, but that's been taken care of now.

Dang, and I thought I was observant. :frown:
Explaining karma to a newbie? If I got a karma point for every time I did that...

I agree with David they always work for me. They are all green if there was or is alot of people browsing and vice versa.
I've noticed that having cookies enabled on my browser will often make the green circles appear. Emptying your browser cache might also fix the problem...

Actually I think geting a Karma point is harder than that. It is only awarded if you presistently give good advice to people, better the Webboard comunity or just act in a helpfull and an uplifting way. I know on many ocations I have given fine advice but didn't recive any thing.(Being a newbe I expected a karma point but realised that presistance is the key. So I took an example from David Arthur, not caring about Karma and just helping who I can.) I think that is the real key!
Speaking of karma, I just happened to notice I now have six. What an ignorant person I am...

Heh, I noticed that five or ten minutes ago. Congrats.
I'd agree with RC, to get karma, you just have to be helpful in general, and not try. My first point came from Tom after about 250 posts, and just nearly floored me, I'd never guessed I'd done anything worth a karma point. The point is to realize it really doesn't matter much, and jsut forget it, and help people.

Just to add an "official" voice: Yes, you're right. I ignore the posts where it is obvious that the person is just saying helpful stuff to get karma, but reward the people who are helpful just because they have the knowledge and don't mind sharing it with those in need. I also hold off on giving karma on a single post until I've seen the person do it several times.
However, keep this in mind: it doesn't matter, its just a damn web board. If you have 0 karma or 8 karma, it doesn't mean anything anywhere other than here.

Isn't that just a longer winded version of what I said?
Ooh, argument between me and EVula... mass site promotion.
