Best Ship Possible?

I completely dominated after I got the particle beam, the item which turned it all around. I gained credits by pirating argosy's with a clipper in the uninhabited system off of Atropolis. I now have a Kestrel. A Kestrel could easily beat a cruiser of any donomination could it not? I've been hitting all possible Confed Cruisers trying to capture one, and it seems impossible. Is the Kestrel the best ship you can get?

Well, it depends on how you are playing Escape Velocity. If the Confederation hate you, then your chances are next to nothing on capturing one of their cruisers (much too big of a crew). However, if you work for them and complete all their mission strings, they will grant you access to all their warships, including the cruiser. But I would recommend doing the Rebel strings, since they have much better ships and missions. 🙂 Hope that helps!

You could capture a confed cruiser with anything... a shuttlecraft even (disabling it would be hard).
It's all worked out in percentages. When you board, it will tell you your chance of capturing (e.g. 1%, 26%, 75%). This shows the likelihood of capture.
If the chance is 1%, it means that in every 100 boardings, you will capture it once. 75% means that for every 4 ships, you'll be successful 3 times. The best ship for capturing a confed cruiser is... a confed cruiser. There's so many crew members, it's difficult to get it. In my rebel cruiser, I must have killed/disabled 50, but I only managed to capture 2. Keep at it... not that it's worth it.

actually the best ship to capture a 'fed cruiser is a reb cruiser. 2 out of 2 times i got a 'fed cruiser in a reb cruiser. 0 out of numerous times i got a reb cruiser in my reb cruiser.

Rebel ships are the best in the game. So i suggest finishing the Rebel string of missions and getting all their ships.

Yeah, I agree with the rebel ships being the best, but theoretically, couldn't you just beat the Rebel string and then do the confed string as long as u got them to like you? It's not hard to get them to like you, just rent a couple argost escorts, go to a system beside the one that hates you and kill all the pirates that follow you. That is what I wanted to do, so that I could buy both ships. But it might not be possible. Does anyone know anyone else who did it? or even tried?

Have you seen how much the government you didn't work for hates you after doing the other government's strings? You're like public enemy number one.... no, wait.... you ARE public enemy number one. Killing a couple of defenders one jump south of them isn't going to work, you'd be there all day.

Ultimate_rebel, how did you capture a fed cruiser with a reb cruiser 2 out of 2 times? I must have disabled almost 20, but I've only got 2 fed cruisers as escorts.

------------------

i don't think it's possible, i tried to get back on the confed's good side after completeing the rebel string. i spend about an hour and a half and gave up.

Getting on their good side is easy. Just get the fake papers and you are clean and the n you can start the missions. But I think its imposible because you alreay destroyed the Aliens.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think there is a mission bit set that prohibits you from doing another major gövt's mission as with the strands in EVO.

Did you not all have a Kestrel at one time?

Hey, CG. I wonder if capturing must also have something to do with your legal standing?

KK -- in a Rebel Destroyer -- fluctuates back-and-forth between 'Pillar of Society' and 'Role Model' in most of the Rebel systems, and has completed all Rebel mission strings. KK now has two Confed Cruisers and four Frigate escorts.

This fleet keeps jumping into the Sol system just to experience a decent fight now and then ... (why KK is about to "give in" and play a plug....)

“You will find that our crew will be either the most valuable, loyal, and trustworthy of allies, or ... if you insist on trying to swallow us up -- the worst of enemies. The choice is yours. And should you choose to fight us ... don’t bring a knife to a gunfight!”

I just blasted them until I disabled them, boarded them and took over! It also helps if you stop shooting the second its disabled.Because I read the recently asked ques. once, and it said that the status of how badly beating the ship is goes to your possibility of capturing it. And by the way, now my fleet consists of 7 reb cruisers, 'cos the rebels have the best ships. I don't think you can do both gov'ts with the same pilots, and I didn't know you could only do 1 strand either(evo).

Even with a Kestrel, the percent of capturing a cruiser is 1%. If you complete the mission strings, will they really turn one over to you?

One factor which affects the chance of capturing a ship is your shield status. Don't believe me? Check out the EV FAQ and documents that came with the program, it's in there somewhere. So, the moral of the story is... don't let the other guys hit you.

------------------

Thats right! It all depends on the stats your sheld lever, your crew size, victim sips damage and some other things. It's calculated some how in the game to create the pecentage of catpure.Though i think it' generalized(?) because some of the stats are the same so it could be catigorized.

You can do both the confed and rebel alien mission strings.
Early in the game, you must accept the Confed Transfer Documents, but not complete it. Look around for the Rebel Transfer Documents mission, accept it, then complete both missions. This will set the bits marking you as both a rebel and a confed.

As cable_guy noted, keeping up your standing with both governments will be difficult. You will need to be upstanding citizen everywhere, so you must avoid the assassination, destroy convoy, destroy escort carrier, and defend planet from rebel/confed attack missions. You must also avoid engaging rebel/confed warships unless a mission specifically requires it.

I cannot keep up the legal status beyond the confed particle beam mission. After that, I drift into working exclusively for the rebels. The only time (months ago) I maintained the required standing long enough to reach the alien missions for both governments, EV crashed when I attempted accept the destroy alien mission the second time around.
