Excellently said Wratho!
BTW, Captain Skyblade, you must be really good at making long threads. This one, and the Best EVO Ship poll on the EVO Webboard are really big now.
------------------ To Escape Velocity: Nova and Beyond! -------------- Millennium. Its coming, prepare for it. Coming to the (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiaSW.com/games/ev/chronicles.html")EV Chronicles(/url).
about what wratho said: The regional map does not take away any fun. And where he referred (I think) to me posting a bunch of fake votes, that was not meant to be taken seriousy at all, and you people were just too dense to figure it out.

Okay, I'll bite. I never had any interest in the Regional Map. The description alone told me it was for "non-pioneering" types. I LIKE the exploration.
But I'll ask -- cuz I still don't want to buy it to learn -- does it do anything special that the regular map won't? (When you land on an unexplored body, you GET the connecting systems added to your map.) What's the diff?

Well, I think it is the poll type that matters, and the success of this one has nothing to do with me, but the viewers. Polls are fun, unless there are 100 of them at a time, like there currently are at the EVO web board.

Speaking of weapons, there is one I don't recognize. I usually encounter it on a Confed Cruiser. It fires red bolts and sounds like a bass guitar while shooting. What is that?
Oh! I just remembered: I still have not succeeded at the Astrodyne Weapons mission; so maybe that has something to do with the "red bass guitar" weapon. (Either my fighters or I keep blowing the Exec Transport to bits, instead of disabling it. No "touch" on the trigger I guess....)
But what is that thing, please? Thanks.

I know exactly what weapon you're talking about. Once you complete all the Confed missions, you can obtain it in the outfits shop. I forget what it's called, but it can be a nasty weapon. It seems like it might also be a turret, but I might be mixing this weapon up with the Rebel turret you can get when you complete all their missions. You are talking about the weapon that's shaped like a torpedo, right?

No I think you mean the Nuetron Blaster. It can be bought in any high grade outfit shop. They weighs 45 tons apiece and fire as a secondary weapon. Personally I don't like them, too short a range and too heavy for me, but they do hit hard, Very hard.

Yeah, the Neutron blaster is a waste of space (correction--35 tons, not 45), as it doesn't do enough dmg for its mass. For forward guns, I'd rather max out proton cannons (and then lasers, if there's still more spots for guns) and then keep the space and secondary weapon usage. In addiditon to maxed proton turrets, that will layeth the smacketh down.
As for the poll: Best Primary Weapon: Protons (Cannons and Turrets) Best Secondary: Tractor Beam (Holds enemies in place to feel pain) Best Outfit: IFF Decoder

Proton Turret: 10 votes. (includes proton cannon) Laser Turret: 1 vote Neutron Cannon: 1 vote Flare Launcher: 1 vote
Cloaking Device: 5 votes Missile Jammer: 1 vote IFF Decoder: 4 votes Auto Refueler: 3 votes Regional Map: 2 votes Missile: 1 vote Torpedo: 1 vote
Protons still in a decisive lead.

Skyblade, Yes. That's it. Red torpedo-like bolts....
Rathon, Agreed. It does pack a wallop, but seems to have very limited range.
C'mon, you guys. What does the Regional Map do for you that just playing the game -- and going there -- doesn't do?
Originally posted by Kaptain Karl: **Skyblade, Yes. That's it. Red torpedo-like bolts....
Ok, thought so. For those of you who thought I was talking about the neutron gun, well, I can tell a difference. The weapon Captain Karl was talking about is as large as a torpedo, red, and like he said, limited in range. If you hang around the Confed Cruiser at close range for too long, the torpedo-like weapon will turn you into space dust. I'm pretty sure I've seen the Confed Frigate carry this weapon, also.
And cloaking device still holds the lead in outfits.
Neutron Blasters stink. Short range, bulky, and too expensive. Although it is strong, that's outweighed by all the other bad things about it.
i like missiles the best
and rsc upgrades!!!

It gives you info on systems up to 2 jumps away from where you buy the regional map: I can't remember exactly, but I think it tells you the name, the ports, the trade goods, the government, whether it has outfits and/or a shipyard, andmaybe some other stuff. The info remains on your map whether you ever visit those systems. The only problem is that you have to buy a new map for each area you want to know about, It's not a permanent outfit; it's more like obtaining a scrap of a map. Also, the only way to tell if you have already bought a regional map at a system (or have no need for one) is to check your main map and see if you have info for the surrounding planets up to 2 systems away.
