What ships have you used (particularly small ships) to kill the Alien Cruiser ? (ok, you liars, this is a chance to claim to have done it in a shuttlecraft.) I have done it ( in EV 1.05) in a Corvette, a Rapier, (and a lightning in EVGE) In addition, I have done it in a Kestral, a Rebel Destroyer (captured with a Kestral), a Rebel Cruiser (captured with the Rebel Destroyer), plus a Confederate Frigate, and a Confederate Cruiser (both captured with the Rebel Cruiser) I have to admit that it was easiest with the Confederate Cruiser-I detest that ship. I almost did it in a lightning, but ran into the "wall" before I could grind down the AC's shields. It might be possible, but would probably take about 50 tries.

Kestrel and Rapier. I tried in a shuttlecraft, it didn't go too well.
That's in EV. I've also beaten several of them in a Rebel Crusier in Satori Station. (there's a mission were you have to destroy 4 of them)
As long as you have the tractor beam, its easy. The Fighters are what make it hard. I hate those things.

Well, I haven't done it in a shuttle, but it was pretty easy with a scoutship and in a courier. It is all with the definition of the ships behavior. The Alien is psycho to the player and xenophobic. So, as long as you have a cloaking device and plenty of fuel, jump in and cloak before the Alien notices you. The Alien cruiser will just shut down, no fighters, no seekers, no movement. Your mission provided escorts will do all the work. I could probably do it in a shuttle (not enough fuel) if I hired some escorts to kill it faster. This is true of lots of ev missions, but it is a cheat. (This was "fixed" in Galactic Scourge.)

P.S. If you like lots of Alien ships to kill, try the Empress' Decree mission of Galactic Scourge--there are 10 of them.

I've only bet the A C with a Kestrel, I never tried anything else. As long as you have a particle beam, you could get it done. You just have to dodge the fighters and stay close to the A C blasting it with the particle beam Usually the Confed Cruiser tries to fight the fighters. hope this helps.

I have only ever done it in a souped up corvette.I just used space bombs on the sucker.I have never tried it with a Kestrel though cuz after I complete it I go straight to a Rebel Cruiser.I have done it in a :eek:Shuttlecraft :eek:.It had the forklift,but you didn't say nuthin about that.
I've done it in a rebel destroyer, corvette, and a rapier all in the same way: get lots of proton turrets, laser turrets, shield upgrades and maneuverability upgrades (and make sure you have the tractor beam and a ramscoop) and try to dodge a lot of the seekers and take out the alien fighters with missiles and torps. When your done with that, get behind the cruiser, use the tractor beam, and fire all of your turrets and cannons at it. Once you have it where it is turning at the same speed you are circling it, just watch out for seekers and let go with the tractor beam. Soon it'll be space dust.

Rebel Missions.
In EV Pale, I can take out three ACs AND their associated fighters in my Pale Destroyer. At the same time. Dueteron Cannons are a godsend.
I regular EV, however, I've only tried it in a Kestrel and a Corvette. Could probably do it in a fighter, though. ACs aren't that tough.

In EVGE, I can take on fleets of Alien Cruisers, if you wish. The Alien Marauder happens to be the most powerful ship in the game...if you can capture it, of course.
In Pale, a few neutron missiles does the trick...I just love my captured Mod-Strike cruiser...
In normal EV...well...a souped up Corvette, Kestrel...I did it in an Argosy once...tractor beam + proton turrets. Any ship can do it with a tractor beam. The only real problem is the fighters - seeker drones aren't a big deal. Easy to avoid.

why does everyone use a tractor beam? i get a kestrel (my name is not from ev) send my two lightnings out against different alien fighters, and just circle the cruiser with as many turrets and cannons as i can hold.

Yeah, right. Three laser cannon don't have enough oomph to to counter the Alien Cruisers shield regeneration rate. Sorry.

I agree with theKestrel in his saying to load up on protons. However, I also get javelins, because it is just like having an extra set of guns, and on the AC it doesn't move it much.
By the way, it is possible on a shuttle if you get three laser cannons, a mass expansion, a javelin pod and 999 rockets, a shield capacitor, and a shield regenerator. I haven't done it, I haven't even tried.

It is possible to beat it with any ship. You have to try very hard though to beat it with a defender.

I've done it in a Clipper. I was in a pilot where I decided I'd save my money, so I used a Courier for all the missions up until about the Rebel Astrodyne missions. Then I got my Clipper and armed it with 4 lasers and a laser turret. Don't exactly know how I did it, (just that I used the tractor beam), but it wasn't that hard.
In Pale, I've taken Alien Cruisers out in many ships (I love that plug): SDB, Guard-Kestrel, Hunter Battleship, Mod-Confed Cruiser, Pale Destroyer, and I probably could in just about anything higher than an SDB.
