Hey! For your information, if piloted expertly, a Defender is lethal. I swear, I once saw one take out TWO shuttle ships simultaneously!

Oh sure  maybe if the shuttles were piloted by a couple of untrained goldfish.

Who said they were piloted?

Ah, I see. It's like one of those riddles at the back of the puzzle magazines. Very clever.
Oh my, we all forgot to mention: Best ship to transport a V.I.P. in, because it is so SAFE: VIP transport. How politicians get rid of rivals.
For heavy combat, I use a Kestrel and circle a lot to avoid being hit, or shoot at things from just outside of their range. It is better to be agile and able to dodge things than to tough it out.
I'm not sure, but I think alot of people overlook the Argosy. It has a lot of expansion space, and, properly outfitted, can hold it's own against a capital ship - for a fraction of the cost. AND it has a lot of cargo space left over. Good choice if you want to get into the action but can't afford something like a Corvette.
Ha, you're all wrong! The best ship in the game is the Scoutship. Good fuel capacity, decent weapons, and enough maneuverability to kill just about anything. Even when I get more money I usually stick with the scoutship. It allows you to keep doing rush missions. There is nothing more frustrating than tricking out a new Rebel Cruiser only to be given a mission to get to a certain location in 2 days. ARRRRGGGGH!
Without a doubt, the Corvette. It's fast, and, piloted well, can take on a Cruiser easily. It can even carry a reasonably amount of cargo. If I'm playing for the Rebels, I'll purchase a Rebel Destroyer; chances are, my Corvette is worth enough (with all the upgrades) to not have to spend a dime on it. I'll use the remaining money to upgrade the new Destroyer.
Ha! When I have a Rebel Cruiser I don't do 'rush missions'. I KILL things. Preferably Confeds. Actually, I usually go like this: First (Naturally), a shuttlecraft. Then, If I feel like adventure, a scoutship. Then I always save up and get a clipper. I think a lot of people don't like the clipper, but I think it's a great combination if you are still interested in doing missions or trading. It has more cargo space than any fighter class-ship, and yet can easily hold it's own against them, so even if you are into trading there is no reason for running, which I hate doing. And if you have a really tough mission coming up you can still trade cargo space for weapons and not be horribly short, like, say, the Rapier. Finally, it is cheap, at a stock price of only 300,000.000 credits. Next, I aim for the Kestrel, which Ilove, especially since it is the only ship that actually carries fighters that do major damage: The Lightning. And then, of course, the Rebel Cruiser.
The best ship for its price is the shuttlecraft. Consider that for the price of a corvette, you could buy two hundred shuttlecraft, and equip them all with laser cannons.
