[ANN] -- The switch has been thrown!

If you go to (url="http://"http://www.escape-velocity.com/")http://www.escape-velocity.com/(/url) you may notice that things have changed slightly...

This revamped web site is not finished. We are making it available to you now to solicit feedback, but before you give us any, please note:

  • Add-On Files - We have a really cool script for browsing, downloading, uploading, and describing the files in our archives; hang tight, it's coming. If you really want to see it (or really need to download a particular plugin), go here, but keep in mind it's extremely unrefined at the moment, and many things will look ugly or not work as you'd expect.

  • Screenshots, Questions? - The Screenshots gallery, and the Questions? section both are coming soon -- their contents should be fairly obvious.

  • Misc stuff - There will be cool "Obsidian" buttons down below that mirror the Options on the right, I haven't decided about the white space between the bar and this area, some surveys still need to be made, and there are other little odds and ends I need to tidy up.

  • The area below - Currently the area below this text is fairly boring, isn't it? Not to worry, I plan to spice it up with graphics shortly.

Everything else works, so dive in and give it a whirl. Everything under "Resources" is admined by folks from the EV/EVO community!

Just a quick note here -- in the future, announcements like this won't be posted to the web boards, they will be submitted to the EV/EVO Newswire:

(url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/games/ev/newswire.html")http://www.AmbrosiaS...v/newswire.html(/url)

-and-
(url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/games/evo/newswire.html")http://www.AmbrosiaS...o/newswire.html(/url)

(the same newswire is shared by both EV and EVO, so either page will work fine)

I'm just posting these announcements to the web board for now, while people get used to the new site organization (after it goes live "for real", I'll stop posting these announcements to the web boards, and begin posting them to the newswire -- I encourage you to do the same thing).

ahh, i see the ev page's been assimilated into the AmbrosiaSW.com collective 🙂

my only opinion is the white tabs at the top don't quite fit with the ev frame's black background... but other than that it's not bad!

Because the old web site sucked; it was rarely updated, strewn with bad links, and had very little means for people in the community to contribute to it.

Heh -- well, yeah, it's been assimilated, but I think you'll find that with the dynamic content of the new site, it's a Good Thing™ for all of you folks.

As for the white tabs, I plan to address that (among other things) tonight. I'm going to eliminate the white space between the bar and the site, I think.

More changes coming soon, hang tight.

Andrew,

is there any way to create an #ev guide page somewhere on the site ? So people would know about the IRC channel and how to get in there. I can write the text, if you wish.

TerraNov out.

the #ev guide would be quite useful

The best way would probably be to put the page up somewhere on your server, and link to it in the weblinks areas. That way you can easily change/control it when you need to.

Hey Andrew: Do you still have all of the old plugs on the EVO site to post, or will people have to re-submit their plugs all over again?

Also: If a new plug has been developed and the maker wants it placed on the official site, where should it be sent to?

Nice look for the site by the way, I could get used to it.

Oh wait, I already am. 🙂

And the headlines section....VERY nice.

Good job overall!

We still have all of the old plugs; we're going to make an effort to make them available on the site. I hope to have the Add-Ons section up and running by mid-next week -- we have some really cool stuff planned for it, including "Top Downloads", ratings, categories, etc.

Hang tight, I know not having them available for a week or so sucks, but I have to make some progress here.

andrew- i have reason to doubt your mac-addict standpoint.

you used Good Thing, and properly trademarked it, but you used ™.

what the hell is wrong with you? you ARE on a MAC, right?!??!

simply hit option-2, jeez, doesn't everyone know that?!?!!

Good Thing™ is a registered trademark of Martha Stewart, Inc. Buy her stock NOW! (yeah right...)

yo- this WAS a joke. Damn, lighten up!

i really need to change my sig.... oh well...

Speaking of those tabs has anyone else noticed they look awfully familiar to Apple.com's?

Allo Allo. I know this is going to sound pretty stupid, but well, i have need of the knowledge to proporly use plugs... And by this i mean that when i download a plug seeing as how they are encoded several times, just wondering what i should do to make them accesible. Oh, and poor me, i have a slow mac if that is any help. And for those of you that are wondering why in hell i am asking this stupid question is that for the longest period i have been just using editors and making my own variations.

Thx, and please excuse my mental lapse.

Thats because they were "inspired" from Apple's site. Now, that doesn't bother me really, but honestly, do we REALLY need to see the Ambrosia logo 2 or 3 times on ONE page? Lets experiment, I will goto Ambrosiasw.com and count how many times I see their logo on the way to this message, then I will repost....

------------------
Unix for business
Linux for development
BeOS for media
Mac OS for productivity
Windows for solitaire

7 logos, 2 Ambrosia patterns.

Unfortunatly, the EV site leads to the EVO board.... if I really counted all you had to see including the bad links its 8-10

The Ambrosia logo in the upper-left corner, above the tab bar, is there for every page -- and well it should be. Most of the time people do not enter your site through the main page.

The larger Ambrosia logo makes sense on the main page, though I admit it's a little lame that it's there in addition to the smaller Ambrosia logo in the upper-left corner (only a little, tho).

The Ambrosia logos that appear on the web board areas will be going away -- they are just there temporarily, I need to either make or have someone make proper graphics for each forum.

If you want to be fair about it, counting each instance of the logo makes more sense -- once I've redone the aforementioned web board graphics, you will see exactly two instances of the Ambrosia no matter how far into our site you journey (one is the logo above the tab bar, the other is the large logo on the main page).

As for bad links, I don't know what you mean -- if you know of any bad links on our site, please let me know.

Unless you're lost, you should not encounter any Ambrosia patterns on the way here:

Ambrosia Main Page --> Web Board --> This Forum

If you're coming from ev.com, it's:

EV.com main page --> EV product page --> This Forum

Where exactly did you see the Ambrosia patterns on these journeys?

Yes, the ev.com site points at the EVO product page -- it's the most recently released of the EV's, and it's the most popular (yes, I have stats to back that up, it isn't arguable).

Can you recount what "bad links" you're talking about?

------------------
Andrew Welch / el Presidente / Ambrosia Software, Inc.

the last link on --http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/Products/EV.html--- it does NOT goto the EV site, rather the EVO site.

Perhaps I am all messed up, because it is under construction... I am to assume that when I click on EV on the games page, it will led me to the same page as "www.escape-velocity.com"( when it is finished)? That is, you have two pages, one being the product page (white) and one being the new page (black) that is shown on (url="http://"http://www.escape-velocity.com")www.escape-velocity.com(/url), when that ev page (black) is finished, the EV link in the games page will goto the new black page? If so, then there really isn't a link problem....

Oh, I see what you did -- that makes sense now. You took the long way here, though. 🙂 Try just:

Ambrosia home page --> Web Board --> This forum

or

EV.com home page --> escape-velocity product page --> This forum

You're correct that once ev.com is finished, that page will take you there.
