Any time you hack a bank and transfer any amount to yourself, from 1 to a million, it impresses them indeed. After all, if you can hack into a bank you are obviously good.

For the literal minded among us, the "to a million" in the above post does not mean to imply that stealing 2 million doesn't impress them 🙂

Here's a perplexing problem for you:

If you make yourself untraceable when you crack a bank, how do uplink know to promote you? Normally, Uplink corp would know because they handed you the mission, and your employer would have informed them, but how do they know when you're doing self-funded missions?

And for that matter, how does ARC find out about your work with the academic database? And how do they track you attempting to hack their central mainframe? A lot of the plot centres on companies knowing certain things, while the game play centres on you making sure that they don't know those same things so you don't get caught. Why don't other companies trace all the "Mission completed" e-mails flying around the net to find who hacked them and who funded the hack?

(Everyone has a certain amount of whinging in them when they are born, and it must all get out before they die. This is mine for today 🙂 )

Well....I'll give the last post a stab.

Uplink keeps info on you and other agents at all times. I'm sure they're watching your bank accounts and know what missions your going on. If you don't think they're spying on you, just hack some of their systems and see for yourself (potential spoiler so I won't go further).

As for other companies knowing your dirty deeds....I know when I do big hacks there always seems to be a "trace a hacker" mission on the mission board that I can't accept. So I'll assume another uplink agent does and get them the info I need. I don't really worry about it because all the other agents on the top ten list are dead or in jail.

Realisticly, I'm sure it won't work this way...but its a game. You have to allow some "it just happends".

------------------

I'm sure that the employers have people who are allowed to look at academic records/criminal records, just not change them.

And the gateway you use is not in your house, it is at Uplink, thus they can still monitor what you are doing. This is what happens (I think)
-Agent entered bank with no bank mission.
-Agent setting up bypass/disable software
-Agent entering account. name=56935, does not match one on agent list, agent hacking.
-Agent transferring money.
-Account #3 increased by 900,000.
-Log deleter opened, used to delete statements.
-Agent logged on to Internic to delete logs.
-Bank hack=true
---------------
It does, after all, take them about 10-15 minutes to send your response, so they are obviously checking what agents computers are doing, and recognize a bank hack.

I DONT KNOW, It's just a game!

Let me see if i can put all of this together,
okay, when you start you register as an agent, uplink says that your personal computer is connected to the gateway, which does sit in an office. when you hack into a bank and transfer money, I might add that im a master at that, a message appears stating that agent "soandso" has hacked this bank and stole this many credits.
uplink knowing the skill required for such an act is outstanding for anyone, so, they decide to raise your rating to show how good you are. since the gateways are all in the offices, they are, most likely, linked to the uplink mainframe computer which records agents work and mishaps. when you upgrade your system an engineer comes in and upgrades it, motion sensor says a person is near when installing, but when you are traced and the government comes to get you, by logging on your gateway and getting your true data, uplink alerts the system you are on and either uplink destroys the gateway before the officials get it, or, your motion sensor says someone is there and you can blow them up. but since uplink monitors your every action you can get huge consequences if you help ARC (sorta spoiler ill not cont.) or if you hack uplink(another spoiler and ill stop at that) and it can give you good results if you do something that is normally out of your usuall ranking boundries(bank hacking when on acedemic missions) or if you benefit the community for other hackers (clear employees criminal data, help friend get better grades,etc.).
so the moral of my explanation is:

dont kick the mysterious man in the alley's cat. he will bite you.

Perhaps the OCP Remote Monitoring System can tell. I'm sure other people have found this server - what's up with it? I actually didn't find it in InterNIC first, I first found it in my save game just screwing around, and when i connected, it was kinda weird O.o very odd. Is there any way to access anything there? it says it's classified after the first bit of text... i dunno.

Bank traces are very very fast, both the active ones and the passive ones, and it's good to have a lot of bounces. If you are hacking into a bank, without expensive HUD upgrades, it is especially important to have lots and lots of bounces.

One of the ones you can use is the OCP system. There's nothing on that site except the text you found. It's an inside joke, an allusion to a movie (Robocop?). It's a safe bounce in that it will never attempt trace you. You can't get admin access to it, though, so it won't add much time to your trace.

r

There is plenty of movie-related stuff in there. However, Computer_Man is right, this is supposed to be about Hacking Banks. Get back on topic, people.

most I have been able to steal in a singel xfer is 1.5 mill. That was cool. The thing that sucks though is I'm not registered so I can't spend anymore of it 😞 I already have all the sw, and the best server grrrr. Bank hacking is cool though.

Well, then why don't you register the game? Its well worth the 25 dollars, in my opinion.

------------------

I am relatively new to the game, and like to think of myself as somewhat proficient, but I'm rather confused at the moment. I spent a whole lot of time doing fairly easy missions, because I like to err on the side of caution when it comes to getting caught. I got a HUDConnectionAnalysis, and a v.5 proxy bypass, and a v.5 monitor bypass, and a voice analyzer, and a v.3 decypher. I routed my call around the world to 45 different sources, including many voicemail systems, and the credits machine, and other servers that don't keep logs. I got into a bank. The biggest account I could find only had 10000 credits, so I sent it back to myself. Immediately following that, I deleted all the logs I left, and then disconnected. I went right to the InterNIC, and deleted the logs on that, because it was the first server I routed through. I thought I was in the clear, but about 5 seconds afterwards, the screen went black and "Federal Agents" seized my gateway. I was fairly angry, but I don't know what I did wrong, and don't want to get caught again; so my question is, what did I do wrong?
