I saw a skin for Mac OS X out there, and, to tell you the truth, it sucked. It was horrible. Half the buttons weren't visible and it barely resembled OS X. I decided to take matters into my own hands and crafted a great skin. However, one problem. Because I've used a bunch of Apple logos, I've had to email in for copyright useage permissions, and once I get them (assuming I do) I'll need one or two people to test out the skin and make suggestions, so go ahead and sign up. And everyone, pray I get the permissions...
NOTE: Just in case you are wondering, the changes: the overall theme is redone (Background/button colors), the main screen is COMPLETELY redone, everything. The HUD is the same on the bottom, though the speed buttons are changed. The close/back buttons are changed (the X's). The menu things (in the InterNIC menu, for example, there is a little blue dot next to each option) are changed and the link-adding buttons are changed. Oh yea, and the "Connecting to GATEWAY" splash screen is completely redone

At Modlink.net, there are two OS X skins that both suck pretty badly. I'm hesitant to beta test, but if you want I'm at louisb3 at ameritech dot net. (you know, I have to block spam when I post my email address.) I'll be hoping you get the permisssions.
i know i thought about that (the fact that i hadnt registered as i was posting.. but i registered now... so its not a problem... we all cant be genius' can we?!? either way i am still wanting to try out the skin when it gets close to completion

Good/Bad news. I have completed it and opened a dialogue with the Apple Copyright people. It seems that they are reviewing it and I hope for an answer by Friday, if not sooner. At this point I'll take 1-3 beta testers and tweak it to perfection. I don't think I'll add more graphics, as mostly it would be sets (the whole bottom HUD, the Gateway stuff, LAN stuff, etc.). I might, if people really want me to, make a new graphic for the map, but otherwise, I think it's done! Now all I need are those copyright permissions...

What sort of graphics do you need permissions for? Maybe if there's not much more than Apple logos that are copyrighted, you could still create a pretty good skin.
I beleive changing 15% makes it considered different and original. Change that much and they can't do a thing.
The way I see this as breaking down is like so...
- The use is non-commercial - the material is creative in nature, but is published - the use is not going to affect marketing of the original (i.e., people will not download this skin instead of buying OS X ;)) - the use is a small part of the copyrighted work (the look and feel of OS X)
With a notice in the title reading, say , "The apple logo, (whatever else), is a copyright of Apple Computers" i think this is at least arguable.
