I was wondering if anybody else has noticed how slow the Uplink demo runs. On my G3 233 w/ 384MB RAM & OS 10.2.6 it feels like molasses, yet there is nothing I can see to be responsible for the slowdown! Also my hard drive is constantly being accessed while playing the game, yet I think I have enough real RAM to run the game.
Can anyone help me speed things up a bit?

For some people the Uplink demo is running slow, for some it isn't. Personally, I have the same problem and I'm running it on a G4/733 with 384 MB of RAM, so it's probably not a simple issue. Hopefully this issue will be solved during the beta testing. Right now, there is no known cure for this.

I am not sure about the Mac version, but most slow downs on the PC version are OpenGL related. If your video card does not accelerate OpenGL then you may be in for a slow ride, especially with the world map.

I got a 500 mhz ibook (G3) and it seems to run nice. I haven't played it fully yet since I'm at work....but can't wait to give it a test run at home. I've played the PC demo multiple times and know most of the missions in the demo by heart.
Can't wait till it comes out. I got a trip to australia this summer and it'll be the perfect game to play on the 20 hour flight.

Very true. OpenGL is a major part of Uplink. You may need to update your versions of everything graphic-related, but if you don't have an OpenGL-friendly set-up, you're probably out of luck.

Yes, Uplink is very OpenGL intensive. So, even though you wouldn't think so, the performance of Uplink has much to do with your video card.

But, say, if a person can run Ghost Recon at 800x600 acceptably, it is possible to assume that openGL is likely not the problem?
The demo seems slow for me too. 400Mhz DV/SE. Plenty of RAM and all... But clicking buttons, typing in text fields, scrollbars, and appearing text is slow. However, the "download" bars are smooth.

What OS versions are ya'll using?
10.2.6. G4 400 w/ a Rage 128 and a Radeon Mac Edition PCI card. Speaking of which, it uses the wrong monitor. I can't even get past the 'Register as an Agent' so maybe I can do monitor switching sometime past that...
The multi-monitor option is not available until you get the full version, I believe. If you have more than one monitor hooked up, it may be having troubles because of that. I can't really confirm that though.
The multimonitor option doesn't actually deal with computers that are actually multimonitor. It just simulates the experience using networked computers (though you can use it on a single machine utilizing the loop back IP). So that should not be an issue. I have had the PC version working fine on a multimonitor system, so I am not entirely sure what the problem is there.
Well, perhaps your drivers aren't up to date?
I have a possible theory. Perhaps something to do with Quartz Extreme being enabled? Cause neither of my monitors have it enabled.
Does Uplink work better in X or 9? It runs slowly on my iMac on 9 (Rage 128), and the color s screw up in X so I can't play it in X.

One more thought. It ran very slowly for me at first, until I disabled the seti-at-home running in the background. It seems likely to me that some other software you have running might cause the problem. I recommend qutting them one at a time to identify the culprit.

As with most games it is advisable to terminate all non system processes before playing as games tend to need all the resources they can get.
