If you used "TooManySecrets" as a username on the PC and then pressed F1, you would be able to get whatever you wanted. Is there a way to cheat on the Mac version of Uplink? I've searched everywhere for a cheater-username.
No... I don't think I'll use the cheat, it's just good to know.

The TooManySecrets cheat was for the developers- So Chris wouldn't have to play his own stupid game over and over and over in testing it. v1.0 included the cheats, because of an oversight of Chris's whereby they were accidentally left in. Subsequently, in the v1.1 patch, they were removed.
There was naturally quite an uproar. But how can you complain that something you were never meant to have was only leaked for a short time?
All the patches were rolled into the Mac version. It would be hard to imagine Chris making Mac-exclusive secrets, and harder to imagine cheating.
That said.
So no in-game cheats. However, by using (url="http://"http://realitymachine.net/uplink/RedshirtX.dmg")RedshirtX(/url) you can decrypt your .usr file in the Users(or Demousers, as the case may be) folder and use an ordinary hex editor to do stuff.
Perhaps, if I get demand, I'll make a save-game editor... Would anyone want that? I can understand people's natural ambivalence to cheating, and I certainly don't want to be branded a cheater myself for making such a utility...

The best free hex editor I've found is (url="http://"http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/development_tools/hexeditor.html")HexEditor(/url) for Mac OS X. HexEdit for classic was a better one, but has yet to find an equal in the new OS.
I personally use Resorcerer (long story) but that probably isn't available to everyone.
Why you would want to cheat? First of all you don't need money cheats because doing missions will give you loads of money. Yea, it is fun, but when you cheat in a game the game get's bored (that's what I think).

Welcome to the boards.
Your english is fine. You use correct captialization and punctuation, that's something not everyone does in their first post. The main thing is that you can make yourself understood, which you obviously can.
WebJapp- Don't worry about the english. Like Kidglove said, your grammar could be better, but you can get your point across a lot better than many posters, and that's all that matters
Now, as for the cheating- If I were to make such a utility, I would want to disassociate myself from the end user. I figure, I just provide the device, it's up to them to use it. If they ruin the game by cheating, that's their fault. In fact, I'd probably include a warning saying that I accept no responsibility for what it does to their experience
Some games can be a LOT of fun to cheat at, once you've beaten them. For instance, JK2 is amazingly cool when you have maxed out force powers in the first level. However, if you cheat the first time around, it will never be as much fun.
Maybe you could wait then, for several months after the initial release? It could be useful for testing out custom add-ons (gateways, LANs) by allowing you to get enough money to buy or hack them. That way, people can't cheat when it comes out, but other potential uses could happen later on.

Which reminds me- as it happens, I am currently working on GatewayX (working title). It's a utility that makes it easy to produce v1.3-compatible gateway mods, with a simple drag-and-drop interface. Yay

I know that (in the PC version) there is a "Protovison Game Server" which contains a special mission. It is impossible to hack though, you need to know the password. I do, but I'm not telling anyone

Just to make it known, once the Ambrosia version is released it will have an anti-hacking feature. Much like EV Nova that makes it so that you cannot modify the data files or use plugins. This will work the same way.

Yes.
Basically, when you register, you'll be able to add all sorts of stuff, including gateways.
