Question about having a "mega server"

Some people post here because we think Avara is cool and we want to share Avara stuff with other people. I assure you, this is an entirely productive and good use of the forum.

You went through trouble dealing with "people who insist on causing trouble"? We are having trouble dealing with your stupid moderation. Why don't you stop going through trouble? Stop banning, stop making your glib responses to every message and turning everything into a lawsuit.

I was trying to provide insight into an effective solution to the problem with firewalls. Just yesterday I saw 3 servers that I could not get into because the people did not have that port cleared on their router. Krow told me that even Vader 's server had this problem, as he could not enter it either. If the megaserver was still around we could all just chill in there and we wouldn't have this problem.

Now, with all due respect to Ambrosia and the luxury they provide us with the tracker, do you have a better solution to the problem? (The goal being to end confusion about firewalls and help people get together for Internet games of Avara)

**

Yes, my server had that problem, because I'm screwing around with my port forwarding... I was testing it on my other computers... That is why. Oh yeah, and what you didn't mention is that you (and several others) were on my server just the day before...

Obviously, Ambrosia has hardware to serve for the forums (I would assume), as well as the trackers (I refer to Avara, Pop-Pop, and any other games they have in beta). However, how does this hardware run? Hmm... Where did this hardware come from? Hmm... Yes, they need these things for other applications, however anything Avara related IS taking up space on these things, and is costing them money to run. Live in the real world, killme, there are such things as "bills".

Also, if you notice, when creating a server you can change what tracker the server is registered at. With this knowledge, if you want a tracker with no guidelines, no moderations, and ultimately out of control, then be my guest and make one yourself that you can run. Until you can do this, I would suggest being quite, and let Ambrosia run what is theirs.

That's understood, but we were looking for away to help people connect for Avara games more smoothly, considering those given restraints...

No, it's not understood, obviously. If it was understood, you would take my suggestion and stfu. You are trying to get unneeded changes put into place. The tracker has been run in this manner since the game was made... But you wouldn't know, since you've only played the last 2 years, well after Avara had already started to die. Like I've already pointed out in the past, to make changes, you need valid points, and I see none. Good luck on your fools quest, because from this point on, I'm not replying to your idiotic posts any longer.

You make irrelevant points about Ambrosia's relation to Avara while all I asked was for a little more freedom on the tracker and explained to you how the Megaserver actually helped people get together for games more easily. I wasn't asking Ambrosia to spend money, I actually suggested that things that would require less effort from andrew and Taz. Things like, ignoring the ban requests since they aren't effective: Sphinx is not banned yet Hons still is (Hons never crashed people). Things like letting us have more freedom on the messageboard.

Yet, it is easy to see how this board is moderated now. I get my Karma lowered for making accurate points and requesting amendment, and you get your Karma raised for making petty, brutish, and invalid comments. It is because of corrupt cases like these that I originally requested change.

You had your karma lowered for violating the web board guidelines. (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/webboard/guidelines.html")Please read them again(/url). Because of some of your past actions here you have a very thin line to cross. Until I see some change in the manner in which you state your case this will not change. The above quote is just one example. Insults, inappropriate posts, and out and out lies will not stand.

You are right that this board is moderated differently than the other boards. The others have at least two moderators who actively check and work on the boards, while for a long time this one has not. As I've said before you're free to go to the avara.org board and post to your hearts content - they don't have rules there.

These boards do.

Let me reitterate: Vader breaks the rules much moreso than I do, yet you do not punish him...

" The golden rule your parents and your kindergarten teacher taught you was pretty simple: Do unto others as you'd have others do unto you. Imagine how you'd feel if you were in the other person's shoes. Stand up for yourself, but try not to hurt people's feelings. "

Great quotes from Vader:

"Good Lord! What kind of idiot are you?"
"take my suggestion and stfu"
"Good luck on your fools quest, because from this point on, I'm not replying to your idiotic posts any longer."

And how is Vader not violating these guidelines? It seems as if he's being pretty disrespectful. In my posts, I try to get to the point, if there is a disagreement I may point out that someone is wrong, but I don't make senseless insults like that.

The fact that you delete my messages not because they are offensive, but perhaps because they are a taste of humour that you don't appreciate, the fact that you don't punish much greater violators than me for not following the web board guildlines.. Taz, it seems as if you have a personal vendetta against me.. In fact, it doesn't even seem like you like Avara... You are not a part of the Avara community, you do your best to stifle my efforts to promote Avara.. just look:

"Seriously, the days are numbered for Avara in it's current form. OS 9 is dead, and buried, just some people can't bear to let go of the casket. I do hope another game comes along that fulfills your serious need for a networkable game. Have you looked at BZFlag?"

Why are you even a moderator? I request that you either start treating all members of the forum equally, recognizing the offenses of both those who you dislike, and too those of people you agree with. It is the job of a moderator to put aside biases.. I think you should resign, since you don't and obviously dont want to have anything to do with Avara anymore. Either that, or start doing your duty correctly... don't tell me to look at the rules when Vader violated them 3 times in this thread..

You are not the judge if someone has violated rules or not, and you are especially not equiped to judge if I'm going my duties correctly. You may think you are, but you are mistaken. It is this continued belief that you are infinitely correct that brings you to results you have.

And seeing as we've now completely wandered off the starting topic, iLock.
