What's your favorite Hector?

My preference:

Heavy Hull
Max Missiles
No Grenades
No Boosters

Firepower, strength, and enough speed to make it deadly is all that I need, or want.

No grenades????

i prefer a pink frilly Hector. The poodle of the hector world.

Hah!

I prefer a light, sometimes medium hull with maxed out weaponry.

My preference as well, only I use the light and medium hull (as I said before). Normally I don't use grenades except for on maze-like levels. Otherwise, missiles are my favorite weapons...

Well, this looks like a topic worth a minute or so of my time.

By default, I use a light hull. I'm so terrible at maneuvering I need all the advantage I can get. Now, I stack it full of boosters (they're practically extra lives, y'all know), grenades (the better to kill you with, my dear), and generally missiles too. I normally waste at least one missile at a distance and grab an extra grenade at the first opportunity, so really I ride a light hull with 7 grenades, 2 missiles, and 3 boosters.

Exceptions: for Choke, I like to use medium hull; the tightness of the playing space means that maneuverability is less important. I also use a medium in Showdown, since the goodie with the boosters in it seems to have been placed with a medium's jumping height in mind. I've experimented with a heavy in Baghdad, but light is still best. For Arsenic I prefer a light, but if my partner(s) is(are) in light(s) I sometimes take a heavy. For A Bridge Too Far, I use a heavy; the ammo is too hard to reach. For racing-type levels (Avarathon, etc.), I use an unarmed light. For Wall Door World Arena, I select a heavy, even though all the hulls are identical (this prevents me from accidentally taking only 6 grenades instead of the maximum). If my aim is worse than usual, I'll use a medium on the AA levels (Bwadi, etc.), in order to get those precious two extra grenades.

Color: I like both white (looks coolest) and black (good camouflage on many levels); however, it's not worth the trouble of remembering to switch back to normal colors for team games. Therefore, I prefer green; it is the color of nature. That being taken, I'll go with purple (the color of royalty) or cyan (another color of nature). I don't actively avoid red (the color of violence) and yellow (the color of sickness), even though they're substandard. Magenta is associated with femininity; if I get stuck with it I generally turn white. I'll also turn black or white (whichever color other players are using) if I feel that I'm getting ganged up on.

Well, I never use heavy in multi-player games if I can help it, but some of the harder 1-player levels I use heavy. Otherwise, I almost always use medium.

From the platforms it's easiest to reach that goody in a medium, but if you stand between the two bottom goodies and jump straight up you can just get the booster goody in a light. And no other hull.
The main reason I use a medium are in Showdown because of that extra missile (since they're so powerful in Showdown) and because of the low gravity which makes precision maneuvering difficult, and in Symbiosis, because the grenades are reduced in power making it more difficult to get kills, as well as the disturbing lack of boosters which makes the little bit of extra armor nice.

I always thought Showdown was/is the quintessential heavy level. While it is
true that the goodie at the top is diffulcult to reach, you are more than compensated by the extra 4 grenades and 3 (I think) extra missiles that you can carry. Since the bottom goodies have fast refresh rates, a heavy can completely dominate if you possess an accurate aim. If you're super cheezy, you can always figure out the pattern of incarnators and just sit on the bottom, turning your slow ass to fire a slew of gernades where the next victim is soon to appear.
Remember too, in showdown, the blast radius of missiles is larger than normal,
making it much easier to detonate a missle "hat". In showdown, it seems a particularily poor idea to aim your missiles, unless you go in for ritual disembowelment. Needless to say, if you don't have a button set for simultaneous load and fire, your missle game will be much less effective.

Another alternative I've seen is to use a light and sit on the grenade goody. Just move in a circle constantly firing grenades, adjusting as necessary. Freakin' difficult to get at.

You can get rather good at quickly aiming missiles. Though in most cases it's not necessary, either to aim or have a load/fire key for missiles, since you can handle it with the mouse.

Which is why we released RIP with Showdown 2 in it. All of the levels in RIP where incarnator pattern kills were an issue we tried to fix that with random incarnators.

While the first four incarnations are set to the colored platforms - the rest should be randomly placed around the level, including the two additional spots on the floor - for a total of 8 spots.

I'm sorry - I can't argue with you. I refuse to have a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent.

My personal favorite is just a light hull with full grenades, missiles, and boosters. Easy to get around, and plenty of ammo.
