Soo... Finally have limited LAN abilities - a couple lan capable machines and some crossover cable - paradise for Ares. Now, a couple of questions. How do I go about setting up the game - do I need to know IP's and ports? Also, is it necessary for me to have 2 registered copies, or can I just use 1, like with StarCraft. Answers are appreciated - thanks!

I think you need to know the local IP address of the machine you're joining with. -> Host game on one machine -> Go to "Join game" on the other, select "TCP/IP" connection -> Enter in the local IP of the first, use whatever port is there (32430 or something...) I haven't tried it myself, but that should work.
Yes, you need two reg codes. I'm pretty sure that it'll quit on you if you join a game registered with the same code (and only 1 copy).

Well then, must register a second copy... I think I'll be OK with the IPs though - I've tinkered with it before. Well, thanks!
Interesting enough I already asked this question: (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/webboard/Forum2/HTML/001675.html")"Pay for Ares a second time?"(/url)

Heh, well no "Lan" in that title there. My question also had to deal with IP's and all too. It is kind of a shame that we have to buy a second copy though. I guess it's worth it - after christmas though, I'm a poor boy now :D.
Well, as long as you don't mind playing Rock Ishimans in less than 5 minutes...
It's 10 minutes.
What is it? $15? $25? Not all that bad, and definitely worth it I think. Course I could always just try to play all my games in under 10 minutes... it adds a whole new aspect to the game ;).

Play as long as you like. The aspect was always there if you registered.

Considering the average Ares game is 5-6 minutes( not counting people who fly around in a cruiser for 40 minutes in the asteriods ) the time limit doesn't matter all that much
------------------ look! its a signature!
If two computers are using the same code made for 1 copy, one of the computers is counted as unregistered.
You know, if you're playing on a LAN that means you're playing against another person. So you could use the registration code on your computer and make them pay for the one on theirs. After a while of playing ishiman vs non-ishiman on the same map over and over, they might decide to do just that.

Well, perhaps you could convince one of your friendly colleagues to 'loan' you a registration code for the other mac. Just a suggestion...

Looks like you've forgotten you're posting on an Ambrosia board, Joveia
Don't worry, Joveia doesn't often seem to be one who means what he says.
I should hope so.
That makes lots of things revolving around Joveia make more sense.

Or, you could... not.
Yes. Yes, I like the sound of that.

I'm very curious to know - what is in Joveia's posts before he edits them?
