Has anyone ever thought about combining all the already posted levels into one big level? It's a real pain changing the data file every time you want to go from say Extemporaneous to the Orthographic universe etc. I wouldn't mind doing it but I don't want to tread on anyone's toes.
I know you guys are doing a great big level, and Dr. Tall is too, but I still in the learning stage with this editor and it would be good practise.
I wouldn't mess about with anyone else's levels but would just add an introductory level, and of course redo the map. It would be fun to try anyway.

I don't see why not, but that's also what MASCOT Juggler is for. ( (url="http://"http://www.geocities.com/mulletsailors/downloads/downloads.html")http://www.geocities.../downloads.html(/url) ) Of course, practice makes perfect, so you could make The Second Big World.

Yes, some of us are working on making One Big World. Though, personally, I would not like my levels added into a larger set. I like having complete control over something, even if it is only a little world.
However, if you want more experience making a world I would suggest the following:
Folder and File Set-up: *Place original in a separate folder called, "Original World File" *Make another folder with your world's title, "My World" (Or whatever you are calling your world.) *Make a folder in this new folder with your new levels name, "Level 1" (Or whatever you are calling this level.) *Duplicate the original world file and place it in the folder, "Level 1"
Before you make your level: *Open the file in MASCOT, pick the level with the size and backgrounds that you want to use. *Quit MASCOT and open your world file in ResEdit. *Click on the file called, "Mlvl" *You should see a list of all the levels. Delete every level except for the one you chose. *Rename this level in ResEdit by clicking on it and pressing "command i" also change the level number to level 1. *Save the file and quite ResEdit.
Making the level: *Open the file in MASCOT and erase all tiles, sprites, wind, and crunch tiles. *Begin to make your level. Do this by: (1) Making a grayscale 72 dpi image in photoshop (or any image editing program) with the same number of pixels as the level. (you can find out a levels size by checking out its Info in MASCOT) Once you make this image draw out a level map in black pen, filling in the full areas. Now Save this image in your "My Level" folder. Then Select All of the image and copy it. Open MASCOT go to the Paste FG Tile map command. Your level map should be pasted in with all its greatness, ready to be touched up. The tiles will not be exactly the way you envisioned them so touching up the FG Tiles will be necessary. (2) Draw everything by scratch in MASCOT using the tile tools. Takes a long time. *Constantly Save your level as you work on it.
Testing the level: *After adding all your sprites, BG Tiles, Scenery, and Xichrons. Save your level, quit MASCOT and test it, by placing the world file in the Ferazel's Wand folder and running Ferazel's Wand. *Go back into MASCOT and fix any bugs, graphical or otherwise.
Merging the levels: *Create next new level with a its own world file and folder, as in the steps above. *After you have finished these levels, make a new world file in the "My World" folder. *Open this new World File in ResEdit and delete all the levels in the Mlvl. *Then open the other world files in ResEdit and copy they levels into the Mlvl. *Edit the info of each level so that it's number's are in order. Congratulations! You now have a 2 level world, and you can add as many more levels as you want, (to a point)
Hope this helps!

Thanks I appreciate! But I have already made a 10 level world, I was just thinking it would be good practise merging the levels, to see if I could get all the conversations etc working ok. I will not post anything that belongs to someone else without their permission. I take it you would rather I left Extemporaneous out.
Actually, the original idea was to merge all the existing worlds into one big world. But now, all the levels are new except for possibly the cave levels.

Whoops! I missed that! I thought I'd trolled most of the boards but I guess it would be difficult to go through a whole year's postings in a coupe of days. That's a neat little script you got there. Ah well! back to the drawing board!

Thanks! And now that I've got CodeWarrior, I can maybe make it into a real application. But first: eliminate all the bugs in the AppleScript version!
Version whatever'snext is soon to come.
PCheese, could you advise me where to get codewarrior for the least price possible?

How'd you guess? I look forward to playing your levels. You could tell us about your world, if it please you, here: [http://www.AmbrosiaS...54&topic=000269(/url

I'm clever like that. I am begining to think the whole idea is a total non-starter anyway.

It's called "The Return". The idea is that Ferazel gets back and finds Geroditus still sick and the place deserted. He has to patch up Geroditus and then go in search of the other Habnabits to bring them back to the central caverns, mopping up the remaining nasties on the way. After a bit he begins to realise that there is rather more mopping up to do than he expected
I go in more for puzzles than traps, (although there are a few of those :D) and generally Ferazel has to find the lost Habnabits before he can get through the level. It seems to have raged out of control however. I already have 8 underground levels, 2 forest, and one (just started) in the ice regions.
I do have a problem with one of my boss levels. How do you get those pesky stone balls in the Mandatraki Warrior level to drop at the appropriate time? Can anyone help me on this Please?

Have you tried copying the level from the original levels file? Do this using ResEdit and paste it into your level file. Next, open the MASCOT editor and edit it from there. The only problem with this is that you can't make the level any larger or smaller.
Has anyone else tried this before?
Good luck.

In fact that is exactly the problem. I wanted to do a larger Boss level. Oh well I guess you can't win 'em all. :frown:
Thanks anyway!

I am not PCheese, but I'll throw my two cents in.
First, if you want to learn to program (I presume you do) then get codewarrior learning edition. It is only $50, but some features are limited, and you can't sell anything you make. Also, try to get the educational price. I can get anything at an educational price because my Dad works at UNC on a Cinema Display and a G4 with 10.1 I told you that, right? He actually got codewarrior free, and he gets discounts on a lot of things.
------------------ Chack out my website:(url="http://"http://wwwlight.aftran.com")light.aftran.com(/url) for Ferazel levels, and my MacBrickout level set
cat99 is right. I got the codewarrior discover programming edition off ebay. It was like new and about 1/2 price! If you haven't done any C/C++ programming yet, you should probably get this version. I thought it would be easier since I've done a couple other languages, but it actually isn't. I feel like I'm learning programming all over again. I guess MascotJugglerin C++ won't come out for a while.
And I didn't get the educational discount because it was off ebay, although I probably got the equivalent.
Try heading over to (url="http://"http://www.metrowerks.com")www.metrowerks.com(/url) too.
Cool, thanks guys.

Its free? What's the catch?

As far as I know there isn't one - We've been using it for the last 6 months.
It's probably not as well documented as codewarrior.
There's also Project Builder that's included on the Developer Tools CD, if you have OS X.
