A.) Hotline is real time, it just depends on how lagged each person is.
B.) I'd set up the server without guest access....and give each of you a user name and password. That way no one uploads porn and wares, and I won't have to delete them.
C.) Err...not really much to say here. Anyway, I don't mind leaving my computer on 24/7....at least I don't think I'd have a problem with it.
Anyway, I think the Hotline is the way to go for distribution of ideas. Although, come to think of it, I believe that Andrew said giving space on Ambrosia's server was possible. That's a good possibility. I'll ask about a beta testers board too.

While I think it's great that you folks are interested in setting up some additional Coldstone sites, consider that they will all be relatively lacking in content until the product is released -- it just makes sense.
Also, there will be more than just this web board made available from Ambrosia when Coldstone is released -- just like Escape Velocity and other games, there will be Web Links, Chronicles, Newswire, Add On Files, FAQs, etc, etc.
There also is technically a #Coldstone on Undernet, though it isn't really being utilized yet (but there is a bot there). irc.undernet.org is the irc server; go to (url="http://"http://www.irchelp.org/")http://www.irchelp.org/(/url) for help with irc.

I run a small server for me and my friends to share music and cool stuff, so I know about pretty much every aspect of administrating and setting up a Hotline server. I' be happy to moderate, and I have the capability as demonstrated here on the webboard and my private server. If the server was set up, I think we would need the following:
A collection of Installer Files for Coldstone (maybe segmented files for those of us with less powerful modems)
A Very large set of graphic and audio libraries. This would be the perfect place to share all the copyright free images we can find.
A list of all the developers an the games they are developing. Maybe a quick paragraph about their games as well.
Information and development tips on creating games. I'm sure that as soon as Coldstone is released each person will develop quickly little timesaving hints and tips that he could share.
These are just things I pulled from the top of my head, with a proper brainstorming session, I'm positive we'd be able to think of more stuff.
The sooner the server is set up the better IMO.

Nope, I neither have the time or hard drive space to run another hotline server, so I'll leave it up to you ;). I think that the webboard moderators should also be the moderators on the HL server, it would make everything much cleaner.
Oh yeah, you should get (url="http://"http://aim.aol.com")AIM(/url)...
That makes sense....
What the Necromion said about the Hotline idea could work out eventually. I don't see why not....
Is the GlueBubble still holding his offer for being a server...?

We'll be providing storage space for files, etc. I'd really like to see a coordinated central effort, rather than a few tangental web sites and such. Trust me that it'll end up being better that way in the end.
For instance, there is already a files area, which will be made available when Coldstone is released:

I have to agree with Andrew on that....
Some people should get together and begin getting things done....
Well, I'm certainly happy that Ambrosia is being kind to the mortals

With my character sprites too.
However, I do think that a Hotline server is a very good idea. You can often get much better download speeds on Hotline, using my 56k, I have been able to get speeds on 10k (impossible on a 56k i know, but that's what the computer said :p). It's also got a great chat function as well, and it is a good place for file sharing. OK, after I post this gimme 30 minutes and I'll surprise the lot of you ;). ------------------ (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/webboard/Forum10/HTML/001524.html")The Tides of War(/url) (url="http://"http://www.ohhla.com")The Original Hip-Hop Lyrics Archive(/url) Hip Hop Recomendation of the week: The Art of Xen ------------------

Well, at least we now know that it is currently priced at $30.00.....

No, you don't. That information isn't complete or accurate. That's why it isn't public.

You're right.
Hey...30 bucks is a pretty good price tho'
I wouldn't mind paying that...
I'd also like if for free....
You know, I have to agree with Andrew that it's better that any official Ambrosia material remain on the Ambrosia site, but...
One thing I think would be great is if a 'CRPG Makers' community started, it wouldn't have to be exclusive to Coldstone, but rather a resource for anyone interested in creating these types. I have had hopes that other people on this board might start posting links to articles about writing interactive fiction, tips for creating game balance, etc, etc, but that hasn't been the case.
There's more to making something of artistic merit than firing up a program and dinking with it. Just because I know how to use a camera doesn't necessarily mean I'm a good photographer; I knew people with $4K Hassleblads who are really bad photographers, and I know some extremely talented people who can take some incredible pictures with even a little kodak disposable. These qualities come from things external to the tool and internal to the artist.
I personally plan on writing a guide to sound effect creation (and hopefully will get it done before the new year), and maybe a step-by-step guide to creating game sprites in Animation Master. These are things that, while intended for people using Coldstone to create games, are also of a somewhat different scope than "how do I do something logistically inside the engine?"
OTOH, it seems that if half the people on this board got into a real-time chat room togehter, they could exhaust half of the pointless banter that's exchanged here.
------------------ --You notice that you have been turned into a pile of ashes.
Yay, I'm a mod on the Hotline server.
Anyway, it'll be kind of annoying to use, seeing as I have to log on at an internet cafe everytime I want to go on the net, but I will be getting a 24/7 freeserve account in January so I'll be able to play an acvtive part there.
