Fantasy or Sci-Fi?

I say mideval RPG. I like magic in my RPGs.

I know this has nothing to do with the original topic-- In Chrono Cross for Playstation, Norris (just some guy who joins your team in the middle of the game) uses a pistol, yet all the enemies can somehow dodge the bullets. 😄

Yeah, magic is cool sometimes, but other times there is nothing like a big ole gun to help you along the way. I just finished the concept sketches for A Europan Enforcer from my game, so I'll post them. You'll get an idea at the kind of weaponry my game will let you have.

well, I'm only speaking for myself, but I don't want swords to be overused. Although I like swords in games, I don't want them to be overused in it. Take the FF series, wlthough they are very ood games, they use swords too much. I'd like more unique weaponry throwing knives and neat guns. 😄 😄 😄

Wow, my topic is still alive...

It doesn't make much sense to have to shoot something 8 times with a rocket launcher, or M-16. Thus, making the enemies harder doesn't really work.

Put me down for SF. I mean, technomages, laser weapons, some sort of personal sheilding, and that just about wraps it up for me.

it's all the ending and you're in hell.

I ussually don't like "hybrid" but if the game is good...

I love fallout but I also love Zelda soo, take on on medieaval and one on sci-fi for me.

Why look at a window, you just see trough, when you can look at a beutiful apple?

I say Medievel RPGS are best, of course this is coming from a person who is an avid D&D; player, is a member of the SCA, attends EVERY renaissance festival he can, and has personally crafted a museum quality suit of leather armor

Medieval. I love that. I'm playing a great pen&paper; RPg in a medieval world with magic and all. And it's surely NOT always "rescue the princess" (Zelda: Ocarina of time IS really good) or "get the gem back". I agree that would be boring.

Hi all,
Speaking of westerns, how about an RPG with a Western theme with some sci-fi elements thrown in for good measure? No, I'm not talking "Bat Durston, space marshall in his trusty ole spaceship 'Silver' complete with young, goofy sidekick" kind of thing. Maybe something ala the excellent anime Trigun perhaps... Hmmm

I've been playing with the idea of a western SF RPG myself for quite some time now. If you want to see another example of and anime in that genre (I like to call it "space western"), you might want to check out Cowboy BeBop, it's set not TOO far in the future, so it's not super high-tech, and it doesn't have people in goofy tight bodysuits (which seems like a staple of SF) all the time.

Also, the comic book Transmetropolitan would be a good read for anyone interested in future stories without all of the "ragtag band of heroes in a spaceship take on an evil race of aliens" BS usually involved in science fiction. It focuses on a journalist in a big city setting in the future, and is another good example of the merging of present and science fiction. Keep in mind, however, that it is for a more mature audience.

It would be nice to see an RPG done in this fashion, and could prove to have more possibilities than medieval or SF ones.

Put my vote in for a combination of both.

No, I've never played it. I just can't find people for it. The one I was talking about is DSA. You probably won't know it. It's a German game. But it's fun.
