This time it is for real

I have unlocked all topics there were locked. I should have stuck with my decision the first time to stop hosting pop-pop tournaments. This time, I am sticking with this decision.

It is not worth the hassle to of trying to do good things for a bunch of people who have no respect, and they say thank you and slap you in the face the next moment. Ladies that try to use their gender as leverage in instant messages. It has gotten to the point where I don't care any more and the only reason I would even continue would be for egotistics. I don't have a big ego, and I don't like to fight or be used and abused.

Maybe Number279 will help you out, and I will hold nothing against him if he does, but I certainly will not.

I am going to continue to be a moderator of this web board, because when this all dies down, the moderator position will once again by fun and entertaining like it always has been. I really have enjoyed that. I really enjoyed being a referee for a while, but not any more.

I shall continue hosting tournaments as long as they are feasible. I have always stated, and continue to state that suggestions are welcome. I've never personally been IM'ed about the situation, as I assume anklebiter has though.

My personal opinion on the matter is that a tournament is good for Pop-Pop. I don't know why we need two tournaments because I've always tried to update the rules to accomadate the players.

If you guys really want a second tournament then go for it; but with the influx of windows users, an already established mailing list, prizes, etc. I think we've already got something to build off of.

I won't delude myself into thinking I'm more than I am. I'm just a guy trying to help the pop-pop community. The way I see that being done is by unifying everyone and bringing them to a tournament. If anyone, and I repeat anyone wants to discuss this further with me, feel free to send me an e-mail or an IM.

Number279++

I agree that two tournaments aren't needed but I'd also like to make this point about suggestions and/or modifications to tournament rules: good suggestions are best put to the test before 'official' implementation. If a rule modification is proposed and proposes to be a) popular, 🆒 easily implemented, c) additive to the fun and inclusiveness of tournament play and d) improves the administration of the tournament, why not see how well it play tests in an ' unofficial mini-tourney' setting?

I fully understand that not all changes can or should be made at once. The basic framework for the tournaments as they stand are just fine. Personally, I don't believe that any of the suggestions put forward so far have been intended to denigrate or diminish the admirable efforts put into setting up the tournament system by anklebiter or yourself. At the same time, the tournament system is still in its early days and now is the perfect time to fine tune things before the newbie influx .

Would beta testing the system along the way be such a bad thing? That way (hopefully) the end result is a system which is enjoyable and workable for both players and administrators. It doesn't have to be either-or.

Hi. I'm Dingo. Can I have your baby?

I'd just like to say I stand behind Squibix in his e-mail. I'm at work at the moment, so do not have time to give much in the way too much in the way of response.

First of all though - is the Thursday torunament still happening? Due to the current 8hour time difference between UK (now GMT+1, hence MST+8) I'll be off on our weekly Thursday night work social(a.k.a. piss-up? 😉 ) and actually, Thursdays are generally bad for me. The point is though - 279, will you host it? And if so - would you prefer I stopped the Sunday one?

The first time anklebiter posted he was stopping, I did post to say I wouldn't mind taking it on, and since then, others asked me to do so anyway. However, the idea behind Sunday's was to test Hyko's pages and maybe to try some different things too (e.g. the team ideas in my pages (url="http://"http://homepage.mac.com/rchristie/various/pop_pop/multiple.html")here(/url) ). The whole reason for that page was just to try and get ideas we'd suggested grouped together where people could see in a place where we could see and refer back to, without having to x-ref through frequently hijacked and locked threads.

I am certainly not in favour of too many (i.e. IMHO more than one a week) of these things, so perhaps as squibix (or was it Dingo) said - making it just an un-official get-together to try out new ideas is a much better way than calling it a 'tournament'

What do you (or others) think?

No. Now go enjoy your victory party, it is what you wanted.

No no no guys, you wanted your own tounraments with Hyko's system, don't tell me you are chickening out.

Well, what's stopping you? You guys don't care what management has to say, so why even bother asking? You are just wasting our time.

...And that is why you hosted a tournament when you knew I would be hosting one, so you could do exactly what you are not in favor of. (What a hypocrite.)

Hypocrite.

thats great number 279, thank you.
as i said before: as far as i know nobody wanted 2 tournaments. crono (and all the pop-pop-players i have spoken to) just wanted ONE tournament in which we could try hykos site, and since that wasn´t possible in the one announced for thursday he/we planned another one.
one tournament would be best for pop-pop and for the players/community, i think. in my opinion the person who hosts tournaments doesn´t have to be the same every time, though. i think those who would like to host should just take turns. they shouldn´t consider themselves as "the management", they should just be, as you said, ordinary "guys" who like the game and like to host. "the management" - if there has to be one - should be the whole community consisting of (more or less) active players and hosts.
i am sorry if i have overreacted to/dramatised other things on this webboard. it just upset me. it seemed important to react. i´m sorry if i made things worse by doing so.

i don´t really mind what we call them as long as they happen, and most of all as long as they happen in peace and with fun, and if possible with as many players as possible.
anyway, crono, number 279, i am very much looking forward to playing "united" tournaments in the future. so who will host the first one? 🙂

Crono! He gets my vote anyways.

I agree.

So when is the next tourney? Tomorrow or Sunday? If it is tomorrow I will try to make it but I doubt I will get home from work in time. But I will try. I am looking forward to entering scores in Hyko's Tourney scores site.

As for the host Crono or Number279 is fine by me. One of you step forward! 🙂 I will be happy to host one in the future, just to prove I am not totally lazy. 🙂

Oh and I agree, a cool name for the tourneys would be a good idea, like the something Cup.

------------------

(edit: oops, I guess I should have read the other thread first! Sunday it is, it would seem. Now I hope I can actually make it then..)

(This message has been edited by Danny (edited 04-02-2003).)

Thanks guys (and gels!)

Have re-posted to the Sunday tournament topic - please feel free to discuss a time that best suits you all if you wish to, otherwise the aforementioned 7:30pm UK time will go through. As I said before, I cannot make Thursday as that is our work social evening.

Also, I fully support Lumisa's ideas that anyone should be able to host - perhaps we could make it the winner's perogative to nominate or something? 😉

More seriously - 279 let us know whether you wish to host a regular one - or whether you would like to round-robin the hosting - or what suits you? I think giving everyone (who wants) a go a chance would be great, but maybe that is confusing - and obviously only the admins have access to the mailing list. Either way, if Hyko's site does actually work for real (I have no reason to think it won't) the actual work needed to be done by the host will be fairly minimal! 🙂

Apologies, this post was started much earlier, but then got distracted by (and hammered by) Shoes. 3-0, 3-1, 3-0... Arrgh, I've obviously lost the magic touch! 😞

Awww - poor Crono-kun ^~
Don't worry, I'll beat him for you ^

Crono e-mail me specific ideas, websites, set-ups, etc.

I'm going to be very busy for the next few days but I'll try to look at everything and e-mail you back with some counter suggestions. Hopefully we can get everything planned out for the next few weeks.

We need to set-up a schedule for at least a few weeks in advance so we're not trying to play catch-up and throw together tournaments.

(At work again, so need to be brief)
Okay, I'll mail you - hopefully tonight, but it may slip to tomorrow night depending on how much time post work pre dinner&pub; I get. (I should get an hour, if I do not need to stay late) I will also cc the other people whose email addresses I have.

Thanks for taking the time to listen, it is very much appreciated.

Can we have tournaments during weekdays as well as weekends? Weekends are sometimes more difficult for me because I am out of town, like I will be this weekend. And weekdays are not possible for those in school. So could we alternate them so that all players have a chance to play in a tournament occasionally?

FWIW, I think that if there was some sort of lounge where we could all talk while playing, it would have difused most of this situation before it got so blown out of proportion. The internet is a wonderful medium for getting people together, but you can't see facial expressions and body language, and it is sometimes hard to truely read people's meaning behind the words.

Hyko, I'll take a beer, or a glass of wine. Ryoko and I talked once about wanting to get everyone into a real bar to play pop-pop! Hard to do across so many time zones, but if everyone took their laptop ....

And I haven't been playing much lately because I have been extremely busy (editing a friend's novel), not because I have been avoiding Pop-pop. 🙂

Thanks, Number 279, for trying to bring this together.

.

maybe we could have them every 10 days (once a week is still quite often isn´t it?) - one on a saturday or sunday, one on a wednesday or thursday?

here is especially for hyko 🙂 : ROUGHLY every 10 days.

heh - I should have gone back to the board to check (since I last read Texas Girl's post before writing my mail). Good idea - I mentioned something very like that to 279!

I'm reading through the e-mails now and trying to sort through all the ideas and suggestions. I'll be sending out responses shortly with questions and ideas to all parties involved.

In true Ambrosia fashion- be patient, I'm working on it. 🙂

Ok let's do that 🙂 Let's all together visit Dingo so he will finally have a chance to join a tourney at human times 🙂 And as far as I know beer and wine are not that bad there Down Under 🙂

AND @Crono: If You like you can already create the new tournament on the tourney-system so that interested players can sign in. As soon as Number279 registers (if he likes) i will give him host rights, too, so that you can define him as vice host for sunday and that he can create new tourneys, too.

Hyko, the great Offender 😉

Well, I'm going to New Zealand this autumn, so maybe I could drop by. (Dingo has already shot me once for saying NZ was almost Australia, oops!)

@Hyko - what timezone do I state the time in on your tournament page, or does it not matter?

And I need to think up a name too - I'm no good at that! 😛
