I still think hyperspace is good, but it should be a slow way of getting around, and very expensive.

Suggested limitation: Hyperspace will now require a sun's gravitational field to correctly operate, therefore it is only usable inside the system. Jumpgates and Gateships must be used for interstellar transport.

No, Lightspeed and superlight and hyperlight are for traversing systems, at lightspeed it would take years to get between systems. Hyperspace is infinitely too fast for use inside systems, but it is still slow by interstellar standards, taking hours or days when a jumpgate would take minutes. It must be extremely high tech, and expensive and power consuming, so almost nobody uses it, except by really high tech races.

Oops, I just realized I was thinking of the FTL drive. I would say that hyperspace would be removed from our options entirely, leaving only the FTL drive and the jumpgates.

That does a good job of completely ruining my hyperfighter concept. I wanted a fighter capable of independant interstellar travel. Oh well, I'd better find some way that it can get out of Sol on it's own now.
Pallas Athene, I think, as we're the only two Obish, we should divide our developments so that we don't overlap and come up with mutually exclusive outcomes. I could handle the military side, say, while you handle the customary/language/etc. side, as that is where our characters lie. Just an idea, but it might be good to work something out.
