I am actually yoggy's mom. I have rescued all the DID princesses. Is there a way to beat the Guardian and still have the Blade Diabolus when you find yourself in front of Gidolen Keep due to Game Continuer?
------------------
I do not believe so.
According to what I've read, Rubber Ducky is working on a sequel--which will be released when it's done which will be after the Coldstone and PoG bugs are squished--and the sequel will, apparently, let you keep the Blade Diabolus for Guardian confronting.
(N.b., my source is a post from some months ago, so things could have changed. I haven't seen anything on the PoG Board about it, but RD might have posted news on the Coldstone board, which I almost never check.)

Hi Yoggy's mom, the "horse's mouth" is here. Congratulations on getting all the way through! You can keep the Blade Diabolus as long as the plugin, DiD, is kept active. If you de-select a plugin in your list, all the unique items and areas disappear (true for any plugin.)
Once you have used Game Continuer, however, you cannot finish the game because Game Continuer makes no provision for the fact that you cannot enter the Guardian's chamber twice. What will happen is that when you try to finish the game, as you enter the Guardian's chamber, the game will lock up or crash.
I suggest the following way to keep on playing: Save a game before you enter the chamber, play through to the conclusion, and then go back to your saved game to keep on playing as long as you like.
If you wish to play through DiD a second time with an obviously stronger character, de-select DiD, play for a short while and save, now re-select DiD and you get to play it all again. The only thing different will be that the toadstools will not grow back in the maps unique to Damsels because PoG "remembers" that those toadstools were already picked. The ones in the PoG maps do grow back because they are placed there with "load calls" for those maps. There are still plenty enough to pick but you have to find almost all of them.
One more suggestion on re-playing any plugin. Sell off all the unique items that you can before you take the plugin off your list, and enjoy all your vials of hard cider since you cannot sell those. I enjoy re-playing many plugins because there always seems to be things I missed the first time around. I hope you do too. ~RD
P. S. If I ever do finish the sequel, the items from Damsels will carry over into the new plugin as well as most of the cast of characters.

Can I then continue on to figure out more of the Spells Expander quests, or do I need to finish the game to do those? I did buy some spells in Fantrima, and met Fayleese and cleaned the theives clocks, but haven't seen anything else.
Actually this is my second character to rescue the princesses.....
That would would be fun! Good luck, and may the Panther fix be soon. Happy Coldstoning..

You do not ever have to finish a game. I rarely do. Just keep on going with as many of the quest-oriented plugins as you like, as often as you like. The current available list is: Ā Sapphire Ā Spells Expander Ā World of Chaos (requires that SE be completed first) Ā Damsels in Distress I know the list is not long, but at least three other large plugins are being worked on.
A hint on Spells Expander: since you are playing a conjurer (why else would you buy spells in Fantrima?) the next step is to listen to some rumors in the mage tower, and buy a room there when you have the cash.

I looked up what might be the next SE step, but never found anyone with any hints in the tower, even though I re-did the puzzles and looked around outside as much as possible. I can't remember if I shined on some important hinter when I came to the tower before ( In my rush to get my character's hands on a conjurer's staff three months or so ago,) but I looked at past posts on this board and found also that the next step after the tower hint is to talk to someone in Fantrima. Looking around there I found there only the regular set of people. So, I guess I'm kind of stuck with this game. I'd better figure something out, before my husband gets his hands on Panther.... Thanks.
I found a guy I hadn't talked to before in Fantrima, but he wouldn't talk to me, so I haven't done the mage tower thing yet. I'll keep looking.....

There is a mage in the tower who will arrange for your room. He will also spread some rumors if you ask him for them. You have to hear enough of them (they come up randomly) to learn that a mage retired and is living in Fantrima. He likes his privacy. Somebody there knows him and can help you get to see him.

This is the brother of yoggy replying on the behalf of my (and yogg's) mom.
there is no other mage in the tower, and going to fayleese results in dead-end conversations. The mage who sold my mom spells is the guy in fantrima who sells spells like entangle, lesser healing, blink, etc. My mom also bought spells from the lady in gwyden camp, who does nothing but sell spells. THe only mage in the tower is Galion.
no one has thrown me off their land, and fayleese gave me the spell pandora's box, that counts as a favor, no?
Could the fact that there is no other mage in the tower be a bug? It certainly seems that way to me.

If Spells Expander is an active plugin, there are two mages in the top room of the tower, The one from the game and the one from the plugin.
If you have heard the right rumor in the tower, there will be another option when talking to the mage in Fantrima.
If you have been to see the retired old grouchy mage, Bernard, there will be another option when talking to Fayleese.
I don't see how there could be a bug in your copy of Spells Expander. He's there for everyone else.
Edit: You got Pandora's Box in the learning tree. Yes, Fayleese gave you a spell of teleportation, but he'll put in a good word for you with Bernard.

There is only one mage there--Galion
He offers only the oportunity to buy spells.
I saw Bernard, and then went back to Fayleese and he had another option. But there is no one else in the tower when I go back there.
I don't agree with Del Fuego that it's a bug ( In spite of his overwhelming teenage wisdom) but I think that I maybe didn't have enough money when offered a room and so said that I didn't want one or something that worked out to be a "wrong" answer back three months ago. Really I can't remember, so I think it's best not to blame someone else's plug-in, especially if no-one else has had this problem by now. I don't know.
Yeah he did, to no avail. I hate to think I have to do the whole thing again. Well, life goes on.... Thanks

Something doesn't add up here. I don't know why Quarius is not walking around in a red robe with a blue hood on the western half of the tower top floor. You've seen him before because you say you declined the room he offers. Not getting the room won't make him go away.
Eltar Greyeyes, the mage in Fantrima, won't do anything but sell or explain his spells until you have heard the rumor about Bernard's retirement to the house on the island with the water wheel. Then you have to ask him if he knows Bernard and follow through till he sends you there.
How did you get to see Bernard if Eltar did not send you there? Blink or Relocate perhaps? If Bernard kicks you off his island, Fayleese should offer you a way of introducing yourself to Bernard to make him trust you.
The strangest part is that you can't hear the rumor which starts it all off if Quarius is not at home in the tower.
However, if you have been to Bernard already, and then been to Fayleese, and have a way of talking to Bernard, he will tell you about some things he left in his room at the tower. With or without Quarius being there, you should still be able to get into Bernard's room by going to the western doorway in the top of the tower. Just ask to be taken to Bernard's room when you are questioned about your destination.

I was wondering about that, if declining the room would end one's progress. Sometimes games that novices make are not very forgiving in that kind of way. As an aside, I sort of felt that way walking all the way to Upper Berglum and then not having enough money to buy the jump juice. Although I had a stone, I still had to walk a long way back again. It can be disheartening.
Of course with relocate.
One of the first things I tried before I even sent a post was to go over by the doorways on each side of all the rooms, puzzle and upper, in the tower. My son started a plug-in that had you going in and out of the windows of the Learning Tree, so that seemed to make sense to try. But there is no questioning about destinations. I still think that, since I do nothing in the "proper order", that I may have found a way to end something before I really began. I tend to play by exploring every map thoroughly before going on, so I remember finding a lot of the DID places and had a zillion toadstools long before I had even met Aighburr(sp?). So--I started a new conjurer game, but It's a long way to my level 26 guy I have now.
Okay. Take that level 26 conjurer and de-select Spells Expander. A message will come up when you load this game telling you that SE is not active - do you want to continue? (or words to that effect.) Say "Yes." All you have to do is have it open, then click "save" and quit. Now load this same guy again this time putting the X back in the Spells Expander plugin box. You will be starting the SE plugin from the beginning but with your level 26 conjurer. Have fun!

Okay, I did that. I redid the Fayleese beginning part, and got my spell. He said to go to the tower, so I did, but there is still no one there but Galion. Hmmmm....

Yoggy,
Exactly what plugins do you have loading?
The only thing that I can think of at the moment is that someone has a plugin that is conflicting with SE.

Originally posted by Stark Bledfast: **The only thing that I can think of at the moment is that someone has a plugin that is conflicting with SE.
That is a possibility, although I consider it very remote. Both Quarius and the voice at the doorway are placed there with one "load call" which means that every time you reach that map (the topof the tower) PoG is supposed to add them there. This load call is not working while others are, e.g. Fayleese and the well, Eltar and Bernard.
It might be worth a shot to remove your copy of SE and download a new one on the chance that what you have has become corrupt somehow.

Alrighty. I was going to recommend downloading a fresh copy after the suggestion I'm about to make, but at least this has been crossed off the list now.
If you would please try something, I would appreciate it. Save your game(if you haven't done so already), then quit PoG completely. Remove all plug-ins from the plug-in folder except for SE and Trinity. Restart PoG, make sure that only PoG and Trinity are listed and checked, load your saved game(the dialog will come up saying that some plug-ins are missing. That is fine, affirm that you want to load your game anyways). Run over to the tower and see if Quarius has arrived yet.
If he is there then there is a plug-in conflict somewhere. What you can do is quit the game completely, return one plug-in to the folder, restart PoG and make sure that that plug-in is also selected, and load the game. Keep checking for Quarius and when he disappears you'll know which plug-in has the conflict.
One word of advice on all of this: don't save your game whilest you are testing with the same name as your previous saved game file. Otherwise it will mess up the other plug-ins that were used with that saved game. I'd even suggest making a copy of it before doing your testing just in case it becomes corrupted.
If removing all of the plug-ins except for SE and Trinity does not do the trick let me know. I'll keep pondering this. Btw, where did you download SE from, the ASW addons?
Originally posted by Stark Bledfast: **Alrighty. I was going to recommend downloading a fresh copy after the suggestion I'm about to make, but at least this has been crossed off the list now.
My boys downloaded the plug-ins from the ASW add-ons originally, but one of the first things I tried was RD's sugggestion that I toss the old copy of SE and download a new one. I didn't know where the boys got SE, so the one that is now on the computer is from your SE page. I could find that.
I removed all the plug-ins but SE and Trinity from the plug-ins folder and started up the game. There is still only Galion in the tower. I thought that maybe it was that my one game that is corrupt so I started a new one from scratch and worked it up to a point where I could do the theives part and then make it to the tower, and this new game doesn't have anyone but Galion either. So maybe my whole game is corrupt in some way. I could save games to a zip disk and then throw the whole app away and re-install it. If that would work, I can do that.
I tried re-installing the game after ferreting out all of its various copies on several desktops, along with their various preferences files and .plist files. I opened my game with this brand new copy, with SE and Trinity plug-ins only, and there is still only Galion in the tower.
But wait...
The latest news is that I tried again two days later, and I have it working now. What I did was throw everything away and empty the trash. This means I tossed all the .plist files, all the prefs, the app, and all of the plug-ins. (Last time I just took the plug-ins out of the plug-ins folder while I tested.) I re-downloaded (again!) SE and tried it and it worked! (This time I got SE from the add-ons page). So-I'm not sure what in the old group of plug-ins was conflicting or corrupted, but I've added in, one at a time as you suggested earlier, new copies of WOC and DID and Quarius is still there. Hopefully this will continue so I can keep on with the quests. I am only sorry that RD had to maybe give so much away earlier.... Thanks for listening and offering suggestions.
