There is a very valuable ring which is only available from Spells Expander, and you may be able to get the Necklace of Palin. (I don't remember if the necklace is available to Rangers or not.) You need to do SE to go on to WoC, and there are some nice items there too.

Ah, now I see why you said that. You were playing as a Ranger. A Swordsman or Conjurer has more quests to do before WoC can start. A Ranger does not get to visit the Vault. Too bad, he missed all the dusty old books.
