I dunno, I'd probably be compressing as DivX. All that's important is that you clearly state (probably in the download text, as well as the readme, provide a clickable link, etc) which codec you're using. XviD, I heard is better, but Quicktime doens't support it. At least DivX 5.1(?) is free). Cinepak is safe, but it's a crappy compression (crappy as in it produces all sorts of artifacts and stuff).

Anyhow, to contribute to the topic, I personally care little about movies, because I have a 768mbps Broadband connection ( ), but remember the MUAAUMDS. If the movies are good, make them 800x600 (the lowest resolution officially supported by Nova) and I'll still download them. But if they're that big, make sure they are not critical to the plot, because I doubt the MUAAUMDS will download it.

For a movie, how about the same size as used in the gambling animations? not terrable huge, and not terrible low quality when scaled to 2x res.
As for characters, depends on how and what kind of bad. If you are attempting to go for a serious plug-in people would probably laugh if they saw stick figures etc. But there are times when comical stuff can benifit from suckyness. (and then the flying pink thingy attacked the population of zanzibar...)
Go for the best you can do, try to be the best you can. If your characters suck, oh well.

Well, TGC is kind of comedy-ish, but I'm trying to do a tad better than that. I mean, I am a computer animation major, trying to find a career in this stuff (though forge, damn his black heart forever, would beg to differ). They're not going to be that bad, just a tad stiff since I'm using Infini-D and I kinda suck at some parts of it.
