Something that I really dislike about Nova is the fact that when playing as the Federation, there is no way to get the hypergate access codes without giving them to the Rebellion. That makes absolutely no sense for a player to do that in game, so I am considering making a small plugin that would allow the player to 'turn in' the Sigma Shipyards leadership as Rebellion sympathizers (and incidentally keep the hypergate access codes).
To that end, I have a couple of questions that I would like some input for. First, what should the requirements be for the Federation-allied mission to take place? Started the Federation string? Be at a certain point in it? Not started the Rebel string (or any ally of it?) Also, should this force you onto the Federation storyline, assuming that you didn't already start another (and thus be ineligible?)
------------------ To quote a pillar of American society: D'OH!
You can always do Sigma before joining a major storyline. But you do bring up an interesting idea.
Perhaps you should have started at least one Federation military shipment. After that, regardless of how far you've gotten, if you turn in Sigma, our good friends in the Bureau are impressed and a certain someone decides to meet you.

"You can always do Sigma before joining a major storyline." To clear things up a bit, I was referring to the third mission in particular. For the turn in Sigma mission to appear instead of the standard one, you would have to have started the Federation missions (and not started any of the other missions, except for maybe the Vell-os once you know what is really going on). Actually, that is another issue: should the Vell-os thread permit/force you to do the Turn In mission instead of the other past a certain point in the missions? (trying to avoid too much spoiler)
Am I correct in saying that you are recommending that the Turn In Sigma Shipyards mission, if completed, would allow you to skip the cargo missions for the Federation and get involved immediately with the Bureau (assuming that you already did one cargo mission to start the thread and thus be eligible for the Turn In mission?)

That's what I'm saying. I think it might be a little more realistic, but take or leave at your discretion.
Take it. I was actually thinking along those same lines initially. What about the Vell-os missions, though? Should they force you to do the Turn In Sigma missions?

I think that the Vell-os mind enslavement device would make you turn in the sigma leadership if you were under bureau control. If, for some reason you do the third sigma mission after you have freed yourself, then it wouldn't make sense to turn them in.
The Vell-os string would probably need different descs than the fed string because you aren't doing it out of loyalty.
------------------
I'll try it out on the Federation missions now. Vell-os functionality I might add later.
What exactly do missions 899 and 900 do? I'm somewhat confused. They are silent, are activated by the start of the Deliver New Hypergate Codes;Sigma4 mission, and are ended by completing, failing, or aborting it.
As for Vell-os, turn in if enslaved, don't if not.
Okay, I've got it done for the Federation missions (pre-meeting Krane). On trying to test it, though, I ran into a problem. How can you set ncb 34, needed for Sigma Shipyards Delivery;Sigma3? The first Sigma mission (Sigma1) sets ncb 33, and the second (Sigma2) doesn't set anything at all. I can't keep testing it until I know what sets bit 34.
Hmm Let me get that Sigma Mission 1 Mbits: Availbits: !(b424 | (b33 | b149)) & !(b6300 | b6302) OnAccept: OnRefuse: OnSuccess:b33 OnFailure: OnAbort: OnShipDone:
Sigma Mission 2
Mbits: Availbits: (b34 & !(b46 | b47)) & !(b149 | b424) OnAccept: OnRefuse: b46 OnSuccess: b47 OnFailure: b46 OnAbort: b46 OnShipDone:
Sigma Mission 3 Mbits: Availbits: (b48 & !b46) & !(b424 | b49) OnAccept: k147 S899 S900 OnRefuse: b46 OnSuccess: b49 A899 A900 OnFailure: b46 A899 A900 OnAbort: b46 A899 A900 OnShipDone:

b34 is probably set by a crön. You usually have to wait a while before it becomes available.
A crön would do it. Tinkering with Sigma2 to grant b34 would therefore not disrupt anything important (for the purposes of testing Sigma3 and Sigma4b). Edit: Nevermind, I found the cröns. "Sigma Shipyards 3 cron" ID 214 and "Sigma Shipyards 4 cron" ID 215.
Hmm. I got (for Sigma2):
AvailBits: b33 & !(b424 | b46) OnAccept: OnRefuse: OnSuccess: OnFailure: OnAbort:
Well, the first mission is working. This one lets you turn in Sigma between the time that you first take a Fed Resupply mission and before you meet Krane, so that the descriptions can make sense. I need a couple of unused ncbs, though, to continue. Anyone know where I can get a list of them?

Maybe this link might help you.
It would -- but I don't have Excel. Can someone just post a couple of unused ncbs, perhaps five or six?
As a side note, the Vell-os mind-control device, (aka b424) prevents you from doing many side plot missions, including the Sigma ones. Once you've removed it, you can do them...
Besides, a Vell-os would probably want to help the Rebellion anyway, unless mind controlled... which, as I noted, also prevents them from being offered the opportunity to work for Sigma.

Point, so the Vell-os is a nonissue, at least for the moment. How about one of those unused ncbs, someone? Pretty please?

I don't think it's feasible to ask for unused ncbs each time you need some, so you'd better generate them yourself: export the Nova data files to text using EVNEW (if on a PC) or context from NovaTools on a Mac. Then open with some text editor and do a globl search for a random bXXXX (where XXXX is some number between 0 and 9999). If it turns up nothing, when searching all the data files, you can safely consider that bit unused.
