Learn to use the little edit button right above your post. I now realize that when you originally typed 4 you meant $, but you should have edited it.
You can't get any decent graphics editor for $35, but there are good free ones. Wings and Blender spring to mind.

I don't think either do. Sorry.
Try Wings 3d. I have tried it, and i was able to make a few simple things on it (more than I ever could with others). I think it was wings3d.com, but i am not sure. Google for it. As for EVNEW, armed with the EV Nova Bible, is not terrible difficult to use. It doesnt have its own quirks for most plugin data (like how novatools changes ID#s into RIDs), so anything the bible says is/should be true. -Az

That's about all I can think of for right now. Note that Alias Maya 5.0 Personal Learning Edition and Softimage XSI Experience are watered down (or in many cases, crippled) versions of the full packages. Also, be aware that the most expensive program is not necessarily the best program, especially if it cannot do the job that you specifically bought it for. On the image gallery, Wings 3D, Strata, Infini-D (not for PC, but is a precursor to Carrara), Cinema 4D, Strata 3D, and Lightwave are the most popular programs. Lightwave is the program that ATMOS used to make EV Nova, and is my personal favorite program both as a modeler and as a still renderer. What is a renderer, you ask? After you finish making your 3D model, the only way you can output it as an image is through a process called rendering. A good renderer can with the right ingredients make photorealistic images.. Wings 3D, while gaining popularity, does not come bundled with a renderer and requires another program (POV-Ray and Strata are two preferred renderers) to render final images.
As I forgot to mention before, if you're a student, these programs can be significantly less expensive.

Never used it myself.
I have one suggestion for you Zaku, GET A MAC. All the best editors, 3Dprograms, games, (and I think plugins though I never play any nova plugins.) It is much easier to do stuff for this game on a Mac, trust me. especially since from what I saw there were no free windows programs on that list. The one for $19 wasn't full futered and had watermarks, (in my opinion the nastyest trick a program company can perform.)

With $35 and a game (less than $40 probably), a mac is not really in his budget. The demo for C4d is full featured and has no watermarks, you just can't save. So you can make a ship, render frame 1, screenshot, paste into mspaint, save, render frame 2, ect.
Actually, if you don't mind flat ships, you can use photoshop. Draw a top down sprite, duplicate the layer 35 times and rotate by each clockwise in 10 degress increments. Really, the hardest part about making a ship is the programming behind it, so having any sprite to work with will help you learn.

Before you make comments, at least know what the hell you are talking about.
You can get Blender free for windows, Wings 3d free for windows, Maya PLE free for windows and POV Ray free for windows. These were the only free programs on the list, and they can all be used on windows. ------------------ | (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/cgi-bin/ubb/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&number;=56&SUBMIT;=Go") EV Image Gallery.(/url) | (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/cgi-bin/ubb/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&number;=9&SUBMIT;=Go") EV Developers Corner.(/url) | (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/cgi-bin/ubb/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&number;=20&SUBMIT;=Go") And lest we forget, EV Chronicles.(/url) | (url="http://"http://directory.uroboricforms.org/profile.php?id=00076")My Profile(/url) | "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. EDIT: that out, oops. I keep forggeting about those two programs. Although from what I heard wings can't texture, (or was it can't render)
Doing ships in photo shop makes them look horrible. The ships in "new freshs ships anyone" were absolute crap exept for one or two. That was EVC, In nova they would look even worse I bet.

Your right, wings can't texture or render. But it can export in a variety of formats and its quite easy to put into another program. Quite a few people seem to be taking up the Create in wings texture in Strata approach, and producing nice results.
I agree whole-heartedly on this. I don't see the point in anyone doing flat ships anymore, most of them just look crap, especially compared to Nova's ships.

My suggestion is that if you are going to make generalizations like "everything made for anything is best on the Mac," you'd damn well better be right. In this case, you aren't. While I adore Macs, they are far from being the best at everything, but neither is the Windows PC. 3D software is my speciality, so I'll stick to that. The list of programs that I provided are pretty much the most popular 3D programs on the market, or at least the most popular on this board. POV-Ray is available for Mac, PC, and Linux, and is free. Many of the programs that I listed are cross-platform. In fact, the only programs that are Mac only are Mechanisto which isn't supported anymore, and Infini-D (though don't quote me on that), which isn't supported either. Softimage, which has always been a terrific software package, is only available for PC, Linux, and SGI. 3D Studio Max likewise is for PC, Linux, and I don't doubt SGI either. 3D Studio Max is very popular in the gaming community and is a good piece of software (although I've never used it) - I believe the best animated short at SIGGRAPH 2002 (almost as high as an Academy Award in the 3D animation community) was animated in 3DSMax.
I used it, and could have gotten it for $20, but it won't work on my Mac. (blasted windows-only trash....)
Kidding aside, Rhino was a pretty decent program (easy to use) and I could make stuff in it with my knowledge gained from using AutoCAD but I didn't try to render EV quality (or quantity) ships in it. I doubt it would work very well, as I recall, it didn't have a rotate feature that was very controllable, or timable, to make EV rendering possible.
