A big Nova expansion, seeking developers.

Hi, me and my friend have been working on an expansion for Nova.
What we'we worked out so far is:

A structure storyline involving a galatic threat originating from the abandoned system with the derelict (in the south east corner of the galaxy). (sorry, the name just dropped out of my head). (the both of us have written short stories for years, so we don't need much assistance here).

Some ship designs (I'm a crappy 3D modeller and we would accept any assistance offered here). Some of the ships are at the top-part of this page: (url="http://"http://www.this.is/alliat/tolvumyndir")http://www.this.is/alliat/tolvumyndir(/url)

A few mission briefings.

Intro theme.

What we need:

A programmer, someone who knows what he's doing as we fear we'll mess everything up if we attempt to make the programming ourselves.

Below is irrelivant, but maybe someone likes it.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello all you Nova fanatics out there!

I just made a Nova theme for my Ericsson cellphone and thought that maybe someone else here had a theme compatible Ericsson phone and would like to have it.

This particular theme works for T610, T616 and T618 models... but if you have a different Ericsson mobile, just reply and tell me what model it is and I'll modify it.

Here's a preview: (url="http://"http://www.this.is/alliat/myndir/novatheme.jpg")http://www.this.is/a...r/novatheme.jpg(/url)

And here's the theme itself: (url="http://"http://www.this.is/alliat/files/nova.rar")http://www.this.is/a.../files/nova.rar(/url)

Enjoy!

-Alliat.

So did all the others. You should have just labeled this thing "A" as per (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/webboard/Forum9/HTML/004829.html")this topic.(/url)

Actually, I've played the EV series since the beginning and i've always wanted to make a plug. And by the word "big expantion" i ment it has the works, not a total convertion.

We're talking about maybe 10 new ships (wich the player will never be able to fly without a cheat or maybe extreme plundering luck). One to three ships that the player will get through missions (perhaps all with different manuverability so the player can swap between them and find the one that suits the next mission best (perhaps this will be done via outfiting).

Only one big mission string. Other missions are barely an option because the galaxy will almost be destroyed and time is of the essense for the player.

And yes, there will be about thirty new systems, but they will only have systems with too hostile atmosperes. No one will ever have to land on them, there's nothing there but hostile aliens.

The alien cruiser will look something like this: (url="http://"http://www.this.is/alliat/3d/aliencruiser.jpg")http://www.this.is/a...liencruiser.jpg(/url)
Yes, it's hard to detect it's outlines because of it's texture, but when it moves, the deep space reflection on it's surface will move around the vessel (ever played Gran Turismo? The surface will reflect the surroundings like the cars in that game).

So you don't have faith in us, what would we have to do to change that?

Sounds like the long-dead New Era project I was working on a year or so ago. Only in that one we hade a race of humans that somehow avoided being found by not wanting to be found, and they were actually helping humanity somehow. sigh

I'd suggest lowering the proposed number of ships you have. If I understood you correctly, you are trying to make 13, and without a graphics developer that is crazyness. I'd say you should make 4 for one race, 4 for another, and one that you can swap and maybe has only slight graphical changes. That way, it would be feasable. 9 compleatly different ships (the way I've proposed) or 5 (if you aren't intending to do somthing that I think you've missed) and 1 of those ships is actually 3, each looking a little different.

Kont is the name of the planet, by the way. And you're missing the Ke'lar'y mystery, and the opther ring station thing in Polaris space. You could do those togeather or as a few seperate aliens, which was what I was hinting at above.

I could maybe program a little, but I don't want to commit yet and can't make graphics (the key ingrediant to a successful plug) that are NOVA quality. Use my email address if you want to contact me, maybe discuss further ideas and stuff.

I think one of the best indicators of a TC is progress. An example is Cold Blood, amazing graphics, interesting storyline, it was going strong until Onyx stopped for some reason (I can't really remember now)is (?) remaking it for Nova, and now you can download those graphics (url="http://"http://www.pacifier.com/~kkey/shipyard/")here.(/url)

Also most TC are done mostly by one person, probably because that person is the one to carry the standard untill it is done. I can't really think of a true team produced TC (development studio, etc), even ATMOS didn't end up producing a TC!

It's not that we don't have faith in you guys, it's that most everybody here has seen people wanting to make a cool TC, make a website, and then crash and burn when team members left and real life matters took over. Despite all of that, there has been many excellent plug-ins. Be the exception, and Good luck and God speed!

This isn't a tc though. if i understand them correctly their just adding on. with only 13 ships, 30 systems and one story-line. it will go reletivly quickly. especialy considering they've already writen at least part of the storyline.it has a much higher success chance than a full tc with 400+ spobs, 60+ ships, 50+ outfits, and multiple major and minor storylines.

True, but it still will take some work. I hope they get it done.

Also, Alliat, nice cellphone theme! Even though I don't have a cellphone, it looks like it would be cool.

The pics from Cold Blood look really good, but I don't think I'll use any of them (those outfits look tempting though). We'll be really specific about the vessels, so I think I'll be making them myself or be anoyingly bossy with the poor soul attempting to help us making them. 😛
Planetary pictures are no problem, they can be made almost by a single click using Corell Brice 3D.

It's a nice idea, but as the storyline is right now, the Polaris race will be eliminated as a threat pretty early in the story for two primary reasons:

1: As the Polaris race is the biggest threat in the opinion of the intruders, they use the element of surprise on them before news of their invation spreads out.

2: The Polaris race is both galaticaly and socialy isolated from the other races, so the chances of keeping the element of surprise after the fall of the 1st race are greater.

Your ideas are welcomed and we'll be glad to have you on our team but note that we're having exams here in Iceland soon, so the project will be slowed down or stopped for about a month or so. So you'll have plenty of time to decide if you want to join or not.

The Polycon TC looked nice (the parts of it that worked, that is...) There were multiple errors when I tryed it and I soon gave up.

And DeepThink: Thanks for the compliment! 🙂

Better ask some important questions before deciding to join.

  1. What platform are you running on? (I don't have the appropriate converters yet)
  2. Where are the graphics coming from?
  3. How many missions?
  4. What is who planning on donig? (i.e.: would I program ships, missions, outfits, etc.)
  5. Who will write the descriptions?

I'm running on a mac, os 9.2 or X (I don't usually use the comp with X) and I usually run on Nova tools. Like I said, I don't have or know where to get converters; I looked at the addons page and couldn't find any, but I wasn't looking hard. I do have pleanty of experiance, and should be able to do anything you want me to, but I prefer not doing missions and for some weird reason I'm a plug killer. Any large projects I take on (by myself) I've eventually lost interest in. ( I tried to make a planet you could buy, and worked on it for about a week, and then stopped.) That may sound unnerveing , but if you can keep me extreamly interested and cooresponding, you should have no trouble. I've got a wuss schedule at college, and only two classes at high school (running start is a great program) and should have time. Anyway, I figure it's your plug, you decide who you want on the crew. I'll be checking my email and this board as often as I can.

I'll do it. I have the experience (though nothing to prove it), and as long as it's as small as you say it is, it should be okay. 13 ships? Piece o' cake. 30 systems? Easy. Mission string? No problem. Contact me at (url="http://"mailto:orcalovebri9@spymac.com")mailto:orcalovebri9@spymac.com(/url)orcalovebri9@spymac.com

Damn, you beat me to it (but more B from the topic).

More seriously, you would have a better change of getting people to work for you, Alliat (what you basically are asking for) if you explained a bit more the plot, what you want, the scope, etc... ; especially, good graphic guy are a rarity, and as artists (we all plug-makers like to think ourselves as artists) they tend to pursue their own agenda. I'm just warning you, this is the real life in the EVDC.

What are you talking about? I'm no artist (well, I can be, but only when I draw. Not when I make plug ins) I'm programming. Or engineering. Or desiging. Not artisting.

  6. We are both using PC computers (I have an old indigo blue iMac that runs Nova in case an emergency comes up). I have a PC Nova editor and a Mac --> PC plug converter. As we won't be doing much with the codes I don't see the difference betwean platforms as an obstickle. The only problem has alredy been solved via the plug converter.

  7. Currently the graphics are coming from myself, but as I said before I'm not a great 3D modeler (I'm currently using StrataVision 3d, same version as used to make the game MYST). I have good control over photoshop though, if there's any fixing to do.

3)There will be pretty many missions in the string. We're talking about pretty many of the traditional cargo runs at the beginning of the string. They will basicly look the same as usual: after first 3-5 missions a few Auroran foes will be added for more chalenge, combat rating and legal status. The chalenge will be gradualy increased untill the storyline will begin to take form.

  1. As the status is now, I'll be doing the graphics (but i find orcaloverbri9's offer tempting and will get to that later), the theme (it will be optional), missions, and the storyline (everyone can, of course chip in with new ideas). Mission briefings and character design (the written part of the plug) will be in the hands of me and my friend Aggi, but again, everyone can chip in. You would then do the programing part.

  2. As mentioned above, that would be in the hands of Aggi, wich is signifficantly better at the English languages grammar, spelling and vocabulary than I am.

The loosing interest problem could be solved by sending you a picture of a hot babe on a weekly basis or simply by cracking a joke like i just did now.
But seriously, that's something that you'll have to place judgement on by yourself. The only thing i can do about that is to keep in good touch through all development stages and hope that you'll find the storyline exciting. Of course your asistance will be essential to this project and all the names will be the same size on the creditlist.

Great! But i warn you as I did before, the alien vessels have alredy been designed and i doubt that it'll be altered, so you'll have to keep in good touch and I'll send you test render movies of my version to let you get the feel of the texture and the shapes of them. The 30 planets must have rings like the planet in the Kont system, only difference is, of course, that their rings won't be broken. You will also have to be in good contact with Meaker VI (if he joins, that is), as he will tell you what types and sizes of images he'll need for the programing.

If you both choose to join, there's nothing more to do but get ourselves propperly introduced and get the development started.

Anyway, I'll assume by programming we mean implementing; which, when I really think about it, has a totally different meaning. Cross-platform contamin... I mean, work ;), can be done, but from what I've heard it's crazy to try to get the RleD's accross. Since you've got a clear goal, I suppose I'll join, you can use the email on this message to contact me.

Erm...I think you misunderstood my offer...I was really volunteering for the programming. Anyway, I can't do the ships, but the planets are a definate possibilty. I'll put up a couple examples for you to pick apart.

Hey Alliat; I am working on a small TC LAPD Station 2 you could add the your string to my TC in english; I got 4 months working on the plug, I got a problem you cannot add any more outfits to the plug maxed out, the plug is about 4 megs. I am using an i-mac with Mission Computer, ResEdit 40 meg, Nova tools a combined Editor, ResChange 50 meg Editor for Mac, I do planets, stations, ship mods, outfits, shipyard picts,-outfits picts as to get the right pict to the right outfit, and other things, as for your ships it looks nice.

Zacha Pedro and froggy: I appreciate your critisism, it encourages me to prove you wrong, but why do you, Zacha Pedro, think I'm looking for someone to work FOR me? That is not the case here, I thought I made my point clear that I'm looking for someone to work WITH me. There's a big difference here.
I agree, though, this topic would rather belong labeled "B" although it's not a TC.
But everybody on the team WILL get a PERS if they desire. And let me make it clear that I don't considder myself a some sort of a kingpin in this project. I am counting teamwork here, everybody has to approve everything before proceeding. And who knows, if the members of this team will get along and work smoothly together, there might even be more plugs coming later.

Meaker VI: It's great to have you on the team and I'm looking forward to work with you!
And that about the quote code: It took me pretty long to write that message and the quote code blocked the whole thing. If I hadn't copyed the message before sending, I would have to retype it all over again. I don't trust the damn thing anymore, lurking on this messageboard diguised as a comfortable option for honest replyers. 🙂

orcaloverbri9: I don't see a reason why we should have two programers on this project unless Meaker VI is willing to share the position with you, in wich case you'll have to work togeather and divide the tasks. You'll have to talk this over with him. The good thing about you two co-operating is that there isn't as much stress hanging over you as you help each other out. But there's always a chance of a conflict, and that's the downside. That shoudn't hapen If you communicate with each other. I know I'm just talking common sense here, but the bottom line is that you talk this over with Meaker VI.
P.s. My quote: I first heard it in Icelandic so it's directly translated over to English... I'll fix it, thanks. 🙂
