(url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/webboard/Forum9/HTML/004789.html")The mrxak Challenge Competition One(/url) winners have been selected for the Critical Hit! easy challenge.
First Place: Masamune's (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/cgi-bin/vftp/dl-redirect.pl/CriticalHitWeapon.sit?path=evn/plugins&file;=CriticalHitWeapon.sit")Critical Hit Weapon(/url) This plug-in uses a starter weapon that when approaching the target, splits into several submunitions, each shoots out in random directions, and does a certain amount of damage. I hesitated to award this one due to it's tendency to almost always fail at actually hitting anything. However, when the weapon does manage to hit, it does so with varying degrees of damage, so it does technically complete the task. One karma point awarded for being the first to complete the task correctly.
Second Place: Azratax2's (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/cgi-bin/vftp/dl-redirect.pl/Randomdamage.sit?path=evn/plugins&file;=Randomdamage.sit")Randomdamage(/url) This plug-in, which includes new graphics and sound, uses a single weapon that submunitions into a new shot of the same type after a very short count, and uses a decay value to change the damage done at each hit. The only criticisms I have are that it is only available 95 percent of the time and is too expensive to be bought at the start of a new pilot. It also did a very small amount of damage, so it was difficult to test. One karma point awarded for being very "complete" and for being very clever in the method used.
Third Place: Mazca's (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/cgi-bin/vftp/dl-redirect.pl/wisnywisnyplugin.sit?path=evn/plugins&file;=wisnywisnyplugin.sit")wisnywisnyplugin(/url) This plug-in used a method very similar to Azratax's, but was sent in later. As such, it is not deserving of any karma. He's a moderator anyway, so there's no real point to awarding anything anyway.
Congratulations to the winners!

I'd hate to think what would happen if you could give a moderator karma. You guys'd probably give yoursef karma! Scary thought...

It is possible, there's just no point. Please keep the conversation on The mrxak Challenge.
Heh, I didn't expect to win that as mine was a pretty damn shoddy effort on all accounts - it worked just fine, but it was thrown together in about five minutes.
However, I don't get why Masamune's was awarded first placce over Azratax's... sure, Masamune might have entered earlier, but if Azratax's works better through a different method then why isn't he deserving of first place?

Well, speed is important to these challenges. It allows these things to go on and on and on forever with people still entering long after the challenge is introduced, while I can still judge them whenever I'd like. Masamune's plug-in did work. It just had an unexpected side-effect under some circumstances. That is my fault however, as the initial description of the challenge was not as clear as it probably should have. I never said that zero damage wasn't an option. I still deem it worthy of the maintaining the spirit of the Critical Hit! challenge, as it does provide varying amounts of damage.
In any case, they both got karma.
Squeee! does a happy got-a-karma-point dance Sorry bout the 95% avail, small damage, and high cost. I coulda sworn i had put the avail at 100%, and I wasnt aware you started a new pilot for testing these sumissions. As for the small damage, that I admit is a shortcoming of using decay values. As far as I know, theres no way to make something decay twice as fast (Actually, no, there is, and I just thought of it. Use submuning to turn the shot that comes out of the ship into two or more shots of the kind fired by the weapon submitted, with subtheta 0 so they are ontop of eachother). -Az

As for starting a new pilot, that's how I'll be testing all plug-ins. For future reference, always make sure a new pilot can test right away (you can use a chär to set whatever starting states you want).
I think you have it backwards (or rather, you have it forwards, but Decay is backwards) My understanding of decay is as follows: If one puts value X into decay (where x is a positive integer, not the letter x), every X frames, the mass and energy damage will be reduced by 1. This is what is indicated in the bible, and appears to be how it functions in the game.
Will do on the new pilot bit in the future . -Az

I will from now on (excluding this post), but I'm trying to get to 339, and the more useless posts, the quicker I get there.
We can and will karmaslap you again if you post uselessly just to get rid of negative karma. Careful.
What, you can work off negative karma? Hmm....
Anyway, yee-haw! I would just like to say to all my loyal fans and supporters, thank you, you're beautiful. I put my entry together in about 5 minutes- had I so wanted, it could have been made to always hit (just increase sub count). I'd just like to say that while it may "miss" at times, it is SO simple to implement this way that just about any and every weapon could use this system.
And to my detractors, there is only one thing to say: screw you guys, I'm logging off!

Whoa. Calm down there. I was only teasing. I only made one post like that (two counting the second one). I don't plan on making a hobby of it.
(This was not a useless post to bring up my karma.)
EDIT: Should I bring up the old topic, or post questions here? Since nobody has entered the "Escort #7" challenge, and since I think the Ship Hangar is not even worth trying, I'm going to try at it. Hey, why not?

Hey, can we still enter the other competitions? I'm at work until 2:00, but when I get home, I'm going to whip up a quick and dirty ship garage for you. Two ships and two outfits (weapon and ammo) should be enough to show it works, right?
Are you planning another competition anytime soon, mrxak? I'm looking forwards to actually participating in one, and I'm looking forwards to the next set of challenges ;).

Meh, you're probably right, but the point still stands. The damage for any hit was so low that it was hard to observe. A larger value in the damage field would have made is slightly easier. Whatever.

Since 1/4 challenges have been completed so far, I may start a new one fairly soon, but no guarantees. I have a few ideas (some suggested by others) so I could potentially start one as soon as I have time. I'd still like to see at least one or two entries for the Escort Number Seven challenge though. I also need to rethink a bit some of the judging and setup, as well as actually making a webpage to replace the current filler.

In any case, since you haven't answered my question, I'll just start asking. For "Escort #7," do you mean captured escorts, hired escorts, or both? And for captured escorts, I'd assume you only have to do it for përs's. Right?

Eh? Gage? How do you figure that?
It's fine by me if you bring up the old topic, or you could post questions here. It's up to you. Escort number seven should behave as a hired escort.
