Can I make a ship that blows up as soon as it jumps in?

Yes, but if you set it to 32768, will it be -32767? Or is it like credits (or I presume, at least - if anyone can give me a definate answer, it would be helpful), and infinate? I'll need to try this out. Give me a moment.

no. I'm pretty sure it goes to -1. Basically, whatever you put over 32767 will subtract from 0 - that's my current hypothesis.

If just entering a negative number didnt work, why would entering a really high number work? The hex code for the supposed "high number" as stored in the plug would be the same as that for the negative number it would roll over to.
Also, large positive numbers roll over to large negative numbers, i belive, not small negative numbers.

Usually not. When you're in resedit and you enter a number that's too high, you can't close close the resource.

Having just tested this with an outfit that adds negative armour and shield regeneration (for the player's ship), I have discovered something interesting: the shields will hold at 100% (after taking off) until regeneration is triggered, at which point they will begin dropping. I suspect the armour regeneration works in much the same way, but I forgot to try it during my test. I was hoping to be able to make the player's ship to randomly disable itself and possibly explode, but alas, it looks like it will only happen when he/she is hit by a shield piercing weapon or if the shields are taken out then the armour. Damn...

Well, you could make a solitary ship appear via mission that has a black dot as a sprite, with 100% transparency, no shields, and about 5 armor. Have it use a weapon that has a blast that affects the user, with little range, that does over 5 damage, so that it kills itself upon its first use. The player will take a negligible amount of damage, and the recharge would be triggered.

I did something similar to that with my background music tests.

Yeah, come to think of it... That does work. 😛 However, for the ship to actually be hostile and to fire a shot, it cannot be killed instantly, as zero armor would do.

I remember while converting the EV scenario, I had a problem with the Hawks and Fed Interceptors having zero armor, and I needed to increase it to 5 armor points, or some-such. Regardless, all that showed up was a fireball when you jumped in.

I wonder, though... If the player's shields have a negative value, will he/she become disabled? If that is the case, the shield regeneration should stop, and the player would never be destroyed...
