I was thinking of something fairly advanced for myself and I dunno why. It involves you accepting a mission for something (haven't figured out a storyline behind it). You have to fly over to a particular spob or something and then you get teleported into a different syst. However, this syst is more or less like a planet surface and not space and you're in a ground vehicle or look like a person (probably a dot just to make things simple). You start at one point, then try to get to a different point. Between these two points you'd have to fight your way through some enemies. Don't really care about enemies climbing all over each other. Just explain itby saying they jump a lot. Once reaching the endpoint, you get teleported again and either continue, buy some weapons or something, or go back to a transport ship or your own ship. Probably not go to your own ship since after reading the mrxak challenge that would take up like a bajillion resources.
If I ever get around to doing this, how would I? I got somethings down after reading about bits in the bible. Also, if this gets released or something, would you be interested in playing it or should just save my time and not do it?

Someone had an idea similar to this at some point. Whether I'd be willing to play it or not really depends on the effort. I would be much more inclined to play it if I saw people—it's simple enough to download a mesh and render it. I would also be more inclined to play if you found a workaround for thegoing on top of eachother—make a shortrange repulsor beam, perhaps, that sent the dude back, as if kicked, and did some damage to reflect the kick?

In theory this is definitely possible using the nifty operators in Nova.
Hxxx to give the player a new "ship" that appears as a person, with a standard weapon of a short-range point-defense repulsor beam that stops things moving on top of each other.
Mxxx to move the player to a new system with a BackgroundColor consistent with land.
I'm not sure it would work fully satisfactorily, but it's definitely worth a try.

Those pesky stars are a problem though. If you included them then you'd have stars lying on the ground while you drove around. Of course you could remove them completely. It would just look very different when in space. I can't think of anything else you could replace them with that would work in both environments. Boulders maybe?

I realized the tleport and new ship part of the bits. I tried to start but realized I needed a list of the bits that aren't used. Just downloaded it though. I'll try to start it again soon.

Aahhh, there you go. You so smart
I never understood Murk. I guess it's just trial and error, but I find it somewhat annoying that I have a pallette based on 100 on one slider instead of 100, or better yet, 255, on three of them. And it doesn't tell you what different values mean, so you have to start the game up each time when you are first trying it out. Unless you set up a series of missions that did it for you. But that would be a bitch to make. A series of 100 missions? Of course, you could get an idea of what each value is with incriments of 10. Eh, I have no use for Murk right now. Why should I care?
Verbatim quote:
Murk : The murkiness of the system (0-100). Zero will cause everything to appear normally - 100 will cause the player to question their current glasses prescription. A value less than zero is equivalent to zero murk but also hides the starfield.
So I suppose it is from a -100 to 0 scale for hiding the starfield (or maybe any negative value hides it), and a 0 to 100 scale for obscuring space even with a starfield

Yeah, I get that much, but what confuses me is the stuff inbetween 0 and 100. As I said, it's probably trial and error. I'm assuming 100 is white, and -100 is white with no starfield?
Murk has nothing to do with the background color of the system. It has to do with the distance from the center of the screen at which things (ships, asteroids, spobs, etc.) no longer become visible. Take Kontik for example. Notice how things seem to fade away before they reach the edge of the screen? That's because Kontik has a murk value of 17. It also has a very dim background color of RGB(0, 12, 12). The murkier a system is, the less things you can see. Also, outf ModType 28 changes the murkiness the player sees, which are used in the various Sensor Boosts.

Oh. That's what I get for guessing. Whoops.
<off topic> Just out of curiosity, am I the only one weird enough to see what happens if you set the progress bar to fill the whole screen? It's cool! </off>
EDIT: Yay! My karma's back to neutral!
(This message has been edited by orcaloverbri9 (edited 12-14-2003).)
Also, I should download Strata 3.0.2 for ship making, not 3.5? And, where can I download a person mesh?
EDIT-A link for whichever strata I need would be nice too. ------------------ "Hey look! A Pola-(boom)"-my thoughts when entering Nila'Mjolnir.

3.0.2 all the way. (url="http://"http://el3.northernswamp.com/downloads/strata/strata3d.sit")Linkage(/url) (links directly to the .sit file!)
A person mesh can be found (url="http://"http://www.stratacafe.com/")here(/url). Look under some of the various categories. I saw a "metaballed person" somewhere once. I'll actually probably attempt this myself. Let's see whose turns out better!

Anyone got a link to Strata 3.0.2 for Windows?
I'm using Lightwave 7.5 but Strata looks good. Which is better?
------------------
From what I hear, Lightwave is by far superior to the old free version of Strata that 3.0.2 is.
Yeah, but i like things free! Anyway, Orca, yours will probably turn out better. My testing dots are really weird(there's a box around them...)
FOUND A BUG IN EVNEW!!!!!!!!!!!!1!!111!!! You can't put negative values in the Murk feild.
Someone report that to whoever is in charge.
How about a Window's link? Sorry for being annoying. ------------------ "Hey look! A Pola-(boom)"-my thoughts when entering Nila'Mjolnir.

To report the bug, email Aprosenf.
(By the way, be careful of how many !'s you have. Note that a lot of them come out as 1's because you accidentally let go of shift :p)
I'm thinking really far ahead—things like moving the legs and arms for kicking and punching. Making them walk is probably impossible.
I did the 1 thing on purpose. Thx for the link.

Ha, that's an understatement. If you have a full version of Lightwave, take the time to learn it. Lightwave and Maya are pretty much the most powerfull 3D apps around.
